Former Manchester United and Liverpool footballer Paul Ince charged with drink-driving
The 57-year-old, who played for Manchester United and Liverpool, was arrested after a black Range Rover hit a central reservation in Cheshire on Saturday, 28 June.
The crash happened at around 5pm on Chester High Road in Neston, Cheshire Constabulary said.
He has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on 18 July.
The former midfielder won 53 caps for his country.
After retiring, he moved into management, most recently working for Reading between 2022 and 2023.
A police statement said: 'At around 5pm on Saturday 28 June, police were called following reports of a collision on Chester High Road, Neston.
'The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man.
'Paul Ince, of Quarry Road, Neston, has since been charged with drink-driving.
'Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday 18 July.'

The Spanish civil guard said he was found dead alongside his brother, Andre Silva, after their car went off the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora at 12.40am on Thursday. The Zamora provincial council said the vehicle, which police said was a Lamborghini, 'ran off the road and caught fire, which spread to the surrounding vegetation'. Spanish media also reported that the car left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking. Jota married his long term partner Rute Cardoso in Portugal on June 22, just 11 days before the accident. Liverpool said the club was 'devastated' by the news and that it was an 'unimaginable loss'. The Portuguese Football Federation also said it was 'devastated' to learn of the deaths, adding: 'Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football.' Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Pedro Proenca, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, later confirmed that the Portugal international's brother, Andre, 26, also died in the accident. The news comes just under two weeks after Jota married his long-term girlfriend, Rute Cardoso, with whom he has three children. They tied the knot on June 22. As reported by the Mirror, a picture has now emerged from the incident showing the devastating wreckage by the side of the road. Medical personnel can be seen around the destroyed vehicle. Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region confirmed the crash with a statement which read: "The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident, and the vehicle was on fire. "1-1-2 notified the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) of this accident. From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene." According to El País, the fire damage from the crash prevented tests from being carried out to confirm that the two victims were Jota and his brother. Tributes have poured in for the Liverpool star and his brother. The Reds released a statement which read: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre. "Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and André's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support."
