Woman found hanging in Jamshedpur hotel room; police probing suicide or foul play

Hans India12-05-2025
Ranchi: A young woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room under Sakchi police station limits in Jamshedpur on Monday, police officials said.
Police are investigating whether it was a case of suicide or if the woman was murdered and her body staged.
The deceased has been identified as Rukhsana, a resident of Azad Basti in Jamshedpur. Her body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have detained two men, a woman, the hotel owner, and the manager for questioning.
According to initial reports, a call was received on Monday morning reporting a suspected suicide in room number 506 of Hotel El Dorado in the Aam Bagan area.
Sakchi police and City DSP reached the scene and launched a probe.
Investigations revealed that on Sunday night, two rooms -- 504 and 506 -- were rented by a group comprising two men and two women.
The men have been identified as Rituraj and Pankaj, both residents of Rajendra Nagar under Sakchi police station limits. The second woman is a resident of Mango locality.
Several liquor bottles and objectionable items were recovered from the room where Rukhsana's body was found.
According to police, the woman detained claimed that she had met Rukhsana on Instagram and had been invited by her for a party. However, none of the three individuals have provided a clear account of the circumstances leading to Rukhsana's death.
City DSP said that the hotel owner and manager, who allegedly allotted rooms without verifying IDs, are also being interrogated. He added that the case would be solved soon.
In another incident, two unidentified youths were found murdered near Balsiring bridge in Ranchi's Dhurwa police station area late on Sunday night. Their throats had been slit.
Police reached the spot after receiving a tip-off and recovered the bodies, which were sent to RIMS for post-mortem.
DSP of Hatia, Pramod Kumar Mishra, said the bodies were found a short distance from the main road in a desolate area.
No one from the local crowd that gathered on Monday morning could identify the victims. Police suspect the murders took place elsewhere and the bodies were dumped at the location.
Photographs of the deceased have been circulated to all police stations in Ranchi and adjoining districts. Authorities are also checking for any missing person reports matching the victims' descriptions.

Customer says found worm in Rameshwaram Cafe food; owner says Rs 25 lakh extortion attempt

A customer alleged Thursday that they found a worm in a dish served at The Rameshwaram Cafe's outlet at Bengaluru airport, an allegation denied by the restaurant chain, which claimed the incident was staged in an attempt to extort Rs 25 lakh from the brand. The incident reportedly occurred Thursday morning, when a group of five to seven people created a ruckus at the cafe, accusing the staff of serving unhygienic food. The group demanded to speak with the cafe's owner and allegedly threatened to circulate videos on social media to damage the brand's reputation unless they were compensated. Sumanth, the son of Lakshminarayan and the Operations Head of The Rameshwaram Cafe, said the café's manager called him following the confrontation. The group reportedly refused to engage further unless the cafe owner responded to their demands. Sumanth claimed the received a call shortly after from a person from an unknown number who demanded Rs 25 lakh in cash to be delivered at Brigade Road or face reputational consequences. Sumanth alleged that the caller was unreachable when initially contacted, but called back around 10:27 am, making the extortion demand. The cafe received calls from two numbers. The Rameshwaram Cafe's management said it recorded phone conversations and messages as evidence, and lodged a formal complaint with the Bengaluru police commissioner, seeking strict legal action. 'It is highly likely that the person himself placed the insect in the food with the intention of blackmail,' Sumanth stated in the complaint. He added that this was not the first such incident the cafe had faced. 'In the past, too, there have been attempts by miscreants to place foreign objects like insects or stones in food items in order to malign our brand.' In a formal statement issued later Thursday, Divya Raghavendra Rao, Co-founder and Managing Director, The Rameshwaram Cafe, said, 'We are thoroughly investigating the incident. At The Rameshwaram Cafe, the safety, hygiene, and well-being of our customers are of utmost importance and form the foundation of everything we do. In the past, we have also encountered instances of deliberate attempts to compromise our food or raise false alarms to damage our brand name. Hence, we are looking into this matter with utmost urgency.' Meanwhile, a purported video circulated online shows a customer recording a spoonful of pongal allegedly containing a worm. In the clip, the customer can be heard speaking to another individual about filing a complaint through Instagram. A staff member is also heard asking if the customer was spoken to inappropriately. The video also shows the cafe staff offering an apology, and refunding Rs 300 to the complainant. In May 2024, the brand came under scrutiny after Telangana's Food Safety Department found expired and mislabelled items — including 100 kg of urad dal, 10 kg of curd, and 8 litres of milk — at its outlets in Hyderabad. Headquartered in Bengaluru, The Rameshwaram Cafe is known for its South Indian quick-service offerings, and has several branches across the city and other states.

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police on Thursday arrested three suspects who allegedly murdered a 17-year-old boy over a girl's social media account, said officials. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they stabbed the victim over 12 times and fled the spot afterward. (Representational images) The prime suspect, Delhi's Khajuri resident Waseem Khan, didn't like that the deceased was following a girl on Instagram. The police said Khan (19) with his friends Mohammad Sahil (18) and Mohammad Rehan (18) were arrested and the victim's body was recovered in bushes in Ilaichipur in Loni's Tronica City on the night of July 22. Waseem and Sahil were neighbours of the teen, and in the morning of July 21, Waseem and the victim got in a brawl over social media posts, said police. 'The deceased, about a month ago, started following a girl on Instagram. Waseem used to follow the same girl. Waseem used to get angry whenever the deceased used to like or comment on the same pictures, which eventually led to a fight,' said Siddharth Gautam, ACP of the Loni circle. Triggering a deadly fallout, the suspect planned to get rid of the boy and asked him to come to Loni's Tronica City for an outing. Waseem roped in others and stayed the night at Rehan's, added the ACP. The police said that on July 22, the three took the boy to an isolated spot on the pretext of offering him chole bhature. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they stabbed the victim over 12 times and fled the spot afterwards. The autopsy report has indicated that the deceased suffered around 27 different injuries across the body, the ACP added. 'The suspects had purchased two knives for about ₹250 from Kahjuri. The family of the deceased in the FIR had raised suspicion over Waseem as he took the boy with him on July 21,' ACP said, adding that the murder weapon has been recovered. Based on electronic surveillance and manual information, the three accused were arrested from Qasim Vihar under the jurisdiction of Tronica City police station on police said that Waseem and Sahil used to work as electricians while Rehan was a Class 10 student.
