The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) had earlier warned that malnutrition among children under five had doubled between March and June due to the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Since May, Israeli occupation forces have killed nearly 1,000 Palestinians seeking flour at US- and Israeli-run Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's (GHF) designated 'humanitarian aid centres' across the Strip.
Humanitarian organizations continue to raise the alarm over the soaring rates of malnutrition among children in Gaza, as the blockade remains firmly in place.
Famine deepens, ceasefire talks collapse
On Saturday, an infant, Hud Arafat, died Saturday morning due to severe malnutrition and the lack of baby formula, according to the Palestinian WAFA news agency.
His death brings the number of children who have died from starvation and malnutrition in the past 24 hours to three, raising the total death toll from hunger-related causes in Gaza to 124.
Medical sources reported that 84 children were among the victims of the mass-starvation policy imposed by Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip. This follows the deaths of two other infants from starvation and malnutrition announced on Friday. Over 900,000 children are currently suffering from hunger, 70,000 of whom have entered the stage of clinical malnutrition, placing them at imminent risk of death.
Meanwhile, hopes for a ceasefire faded this week as the United States and Israel abruptly pulled out of the latest round of negotiations with Hamas, despite the group's stated willingness to continue talks. The move drew sharp criticism from international aid groups and regional governments, who have urged renewed diplomatic pressure to halt the war and end the starvation campaign.
Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has claimed the lives of nearly 57,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children, since its outbreak in October 2023.
At least 143,965 others have been injured, with the toll expected to rise as many victims remain trapped under rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescue teams

The ongoing massacres of aid-seekers come despite Israel's declaration of a "tactical pause" in military operations in parts of the Gaza Strip, ostensibly to allow the passage of United Nations (UN) aid convoys. The move follows mounting international outrage over mass starvation in the besieged enclave and the nearly 22-month-long war. According to the Israeli army, the pause applies only to areas where its forces are 'not currently active,' including Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City. The pause is scheduled to run daily from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Israel added that 'designated secure routes' would remain open across the Strip to enable UN and NGO convoys to deliver food and medicine. However, it emphasized that military operations would continue elsewhere. In its latest update, the Palestinian Health Ministry said Sunday that the death toll from Israel's war on Gaza has reached 59,821, with 144,851 wounded since 7 October 2023. Twelve people killed near aid site, hospital says, as Israeli military begins pause in Gaza operations
As the Israeli military begins what calls a tactical pause in operations in three parts of Gaza, a dozen people are reported to have been killed while trying to get food aid from a distribution point in central Gaza. Al-Awda Hospital said Sunday that it had received 12 bodies, including those of four children and one woman and more than 100 people who had been injured after Israeli forces opened fire near an aid point in the central Gaza Strip operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). It's unclear whether the incident occurred before the tactical pause came into effect at 10am local time, nor whether it was inside the area covered by the pause. CNN has reached out to the Israeli military for comment. There have also been further casualties among people seeking aid in northern Gaza, according to hospital officials. Eleven bodies have been brought into Al-Shifa hospital since Saturday afternoon from the area used by aid convoys coming in from the Zikim crossing, according to Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the hospital's director. Abu Salmiya told CNN that 120 injured people had also arrived at the hospital. The Palestinian Red Crescent said its field hospital in the north had received two bodies and 54 wounded people after 'the targeting of civilians waiting for aid in the Zikim area' in the north-west of Gaza Strip and an airstrike in Gaza City.

Israel announces humanitarian truce in Gaza to facilitate aid distribution
Following international condemnation of Israel's brutal war on Gaza, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that a humanitarian truce would be implemented this morning on Sunday, in civilian centers and humanitarian corridors to facilitate aid distribution in Gaza, according to international and Israeli media. The Israeli Foreign Ministry added that it expects the United Nations to collect and distribute large quantities of aid 'without any delay or excuses.' According to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the planned humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip will begin on Sunday and will be implemented in several locations, including northern Gaza. The newspaper added: 'The ceasefire will be implemented in at least one location at 10:00 am.' Numerous international organizations and countries allied with Israel have intensified their criticisms regarding Tel Aviv's implementation of a 'siege and starvation of citizens in Gaza, cutting off food and medical supplies. This comes days after Western countries criticized Israel for the 'brutal killing of Palestinians,' particularly at humanitarian aid distribution sites. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that the number of elderly people killed by the famine reached approximately 1,200, in addition to cases of fainting and temporary memory loss among doctors.
