SPARC share price tumbles 20% as Sun Pharma's arm halts development of Psoriasis drug
SCD-044, referred to as Vibozilimod, was being developed for the treatment of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Nevertheless, the company announced that the drug did not achieve the primary endpoints in both of its clinical trials. Consequently, SPARC declared that it will halt further clinical development for SCD-044.
Both Sun Pharma and SPARC will now evaluate the future direction of this compound.
This development represents a setback, as SCD-044 was viewed as one of the more promising candidates in SPARC's specialty pipeline. In a filing with the exchange, the company noted that neither the SOLARES PsO trial nor the SOLARES AD trial achieved their primary endpoints—defined as a 75 percent reduction in PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index) or EASI (Eczema Area and Severity Index) scores by Week 16.
SPARC, a biopharmaceutical subsidiary of Sun Pharma that focuses on research, aims to drive innovation in fields such as oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, and inflammatory disorders.
In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025 (Q4FY25), SPARC announced a total income of ₹ 20.96 crore, marking a 38.8% increase from ₹ 15.10 crore in the third quarter (Q3FY25).
However, the loss before tax increased to ₹ 105.41 crore compared to ₹ 79.44 crore in the prior quarter, indicating a 32.7% decline in profitability. The total expenses for the quarter rose by 33.7%, reaching ₹ 126.37 crore, up from ₹ 94.54 crore in Q3.
Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investments, SPARC share price has gapped down, breaching its rising moving averages, indicating a clear structure shift from bullish to bearish. After a sharp 76.88% correction in 47 weeks, the stock was attempting to form a higher low on the weekly chart, which now appears to have failed following the negative clinical trial news. With sentiment turning weak, immediate support is placed at ₹ 128. A breach of this support may accelerate further downside in the short term.

In a major acquisition abroad, Tata Motors to (TML) has proposed to acquire full control of European commercial vehicle maker Iveco Group N.V. – excluding its defence business — through a voluntary public cash tender offer estimated to cost euro 3.8 billion (around Rs 38,000 crore or US $ 4.35 billion). This is the biggest acquisition by Tata Motors after it acquired Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) from Ford in 2008 for $2.3 billion in an all-cash transaction. The envisaged voluntary tender offer will be made by TML CV Holdings Pte Ltd or a new limited liability company to be incorporated under Dutch law, which will be wholly owned, directly or indirectly, by Tata Motors. Iveco is based in Turin, Italy, and it forms part of Iveco Group N.V., which is incorporated in Amsterdam Tata Motors fell by 3.47 per cent to Rs 668.40 on the BSE on Wednesday. Iveco and Tata Motors on Wednesday announced that they have reached an agreement to create a commercial vehicles group with the reach, product portfolio and industrial capability to be a global champion in this dynamic sector. The completion of the offer is conditional on the separation of Iveco's defence business and, as such, the public offer is for all issued common shares of Iveco Group after the separation of that business, at a price of euro 14.1 (cum dividend, excluding any dividend distributed in relation to the sale of the defence business) per share in cash, TML said. The offer represents a total consideration of approximately euro 3.8 billion for Iveco Group, excluding Iveco's defence business and the net proceeds from the defence business separation. Together, Iveco and the commercial vehicle business of Tata Motors will have combined revenues of euro 22 billion (Rs 2,20,000 crore) split across Europe (50 per cent), India (35 per cent) and the Americas (15 per cent) with attractive positions in emerging markets in Asia and Africa. Tata Motors Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran said this is a logical next step following the demerger of the Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle business and will allow the combined group to compete on a truly global basis with two strategic home markets in India and Europe. 'The combined group's complementary businesses and greater reach will enhance our ability to invest boldly. I look forward to securing the necessary approvals and concluding the transaction in the coming months,' he said. 'We are proud to announce this strategically significant combination, which brings together two businesses with a shared vision for sustainable mobility. Moreover, the reinforced prospects of the new combination are strongly positive in terms of the security of employment and industrial footprint of Iveco Group as a whole,' Suzanne Heywood, Chair of Iveco Group. Exor, Iveco's largest shareholder with approximately 27.06 per cent of Iveco's common shares and 43.11 per cent of all voting rights, has executed an irrevocable undertaking to support the offer and tender its shareholding and vote in favour of the resolutions that will be proposed at the EGM to be held in connection with the offer. Iveco was established following the demerger from CNH Industrial, which separated the Commercial and Specialty Vehicles, Powertrain, and related Financial Services businesses. 'The combined group will be better positioned to invest in and deliver innovative, sustainable mobility solutions by leveraging both supplier networks to serve customers globally. It will also unlock superior growth opportunities and create significant value for all stakeholders in a dynamic marketplace,' TML said. Iveco is a commercial vehicles brand that designs, manufactures, and markets heavy, medium, and light-duty trucks. Iveco Group employs 36,000 people around the world and has 19 industrial sites and 31 R&D centres.

V2 Retail reports sharp jump in revenue and profit, powered by store expansion
Bengaluru: Value apparel retailer V2 Retail Ltd's net profit jumped in the April-June quarter, driven by sales growth and continued store expansion, even as consumption in India's small towns remained uneven amid weak demand. The company's net profit surged 51% from a year earlier to ₹ 24.7 crore in the three months through June, as expenses rose at a slower pace of 21%, it said in an exchange filing on Wednesday. The higher profit was attributed to revenue growth significantly outpacing costs, helping the company expand margins. The company reported a consolidated revenue of ₹ 632 crore for the April-June period, up 52% year-on-year, marking its highest quarterly revenue since being set up as Vishal Megamart Ltd in 2001. The company sold the 'Vishal' brand in 2011 and rebranded as V2 Retail Ltd. The performance slightly exceeded a Bloomberg analysts' estimate of ₹ 628 crore, as per projections tracked on the terminal. Shares of V2 Retail settled 1.2% higher at ₹ 1,959.55 apiece on the BSE on Wednesday. In a separate filing, V2 Retail said its board has approved a plan to raise up to ₹ 400 crore through the issuance of equity shares or other eligible securities. The funds may be raised via qualified institutional placement (QIP), preferential allotment, or other permissible modes, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. Chief executive Akash Agarwal had indicated in a July interview with Mint that the company was exploring fundraising options to support its ongoing store expansion and strengthen its supply chain and backend infrastructure. The company did not disclose growth from existing stores for the quarter. However, it added 26 new outlets during the period across 215 cities in the country, indicating that overall revenue growth was driven largely by network expansion rather than same-store performance. V2 Retail's expansion comes amid intensifying competition in the value fashion segment, particularly across tier-2 and 3 towns. The company is evaluating an upward revision to its FY26 expansion target of 100 stores. It has a strong presence in eastern India, especially in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha where rivals like V-Mart are also expanding aggressively. This simultaneous push by major players underscores the rising battle for wallet share among price-sensitive consumers in India's smaller cities. 'Store expansion has clearly driven a large part of V2's topline growth, this quarter around 35% of it is from new stores alone,' said Pratik Prajapati, equity research analyst at Ambit Capital. 'Compared to peers like V-Mart, which added 15 stores and DMart, which added 12, V2 has significantly outpaced them. You'll likely see the full impact of this expansion reflected in the coming quarters, with V2 potentially outperforming its competitors.' Founded by Ram Chandra Agarwal, V2 Retail is one of India's oldest value fashion retailers, catering primarily to middle- and lower-income households in India's small towns. With a strong footprint in North and East India, the company operates a chain of affordable fashion and lifestyle stores offering apparel, footwear, and accessories for the entire family. Over the years, V2 has built a loyal customer base in small towns by focusing on deep discounting, festival-driven promotions, and a wide range of private-label offerings tailored to regional preferences. In an earlier interview with Mint in early July, Akash Agarwal, chief executive officer (CEO) of V2 Retail, had said the company may revise its FY26 expansion guidance upwards from the initial target of 100 stores. 'We are well on track and we've already opened 26 stores this first quarter,' he said, adding that the company is evaluating whether to increase that number based on ongoing performance. Despite the rapid rollout, Agarwal emphasized in the interview that profitability remains central to the company's growth strategy. He said all V2 stores are Ebitda positive. The company has also tightened inventory controls over the past two years, reducing the share of unsold stock older than 12 months from 25% to below 5%. Same-store sales have grown nearly 30% annually over the last two years, said Agarwal, and the company is now targeting annual revenue growth of 40-50%, supported by better throughput and backend improvements. V2 has also been scaling its in-house manufacturing arm, V2 Smart Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd, which contributed ₹ 13.6 crore in revenue during the June quarter. However, the unit posted a net loss of ₹ 1.9 crore due to initial set-up costs.
