The German prospect was 6-3 3-2 down when she got her ankle caught in a ditch towards the back of the court that wasn't fully covered by the back screen.
Seidel appeared in heavy discomfort, collapsing to the floor as it happened.
Following a lengthy period of medical attention Seidel ultimately decided to retire.
The world No109 will now exit the competition, forfeiting the extra £33,000 she would have made for reaching the second round of the tournament.

And fans reckon she should be suing Wimbledon as a result, claiming that the All England Club should have done more to cover up the ditch and prevent the accident from happening.
One fumed: "If I was Ella Seidel I would be suing #Wimbledon2025 after she badly twisted her ankle stepping in an exposed ditch a couple on inches deep at the back of the court.

"The back screen should have covered it, but didn't go all they way to the ground and been further forward."

During the match, she said: "If I get hurt, I'm suing him".

Adding: "I'm going to fall. I don't get it. Can't they just close the roof?"
However, she turned back on her on-court comments after she had cooled down from the heat of the moment - explaining she would never sue Wimbledon.
She said: "I was in the moment. I was on the court. What I say on the court, whether it's smashing my rackets or it's in the heat of the moment... I have no plans, no future of suing Wimbledon.
"Let's get serious. That's not what I do, that's not what I am."

He achieved all of that without making a major first-team signing for 18 months while selling several members of his squad amid the battle to meet PSR rules. But it feels like all that excitement is quickly evaporating as the feelings of frustration mount. In order for a transfer to really work, in my opinion, the player has to be desperate to come to your club. If we don't get that, the transfer doesn't work. 'We're seeking players that are good enough, that are desperate to come, and that can make the difference that they're in short supply for us. 'We're confident that we can try and get some more players in to strengthen the depth of the squad. We're certainly aware that we need to and we're trying as hard as we can to do that.'
