Ludhiana: Will strengthen industrial sector, create jobs, says minister Arora
Addressing the media, Arora said he is committed to fulfilling the expectations of both the party and the people of Punjab. 'It is a matter of responsibility and pride. I will serve with full sincerity to bring growth and prosperity to the state,' he said.
Highlighting his immediate priorities, Arora said the promotion of industries across Punjab is central to the state government's development plan. 'Our chief minister wants Punjab's industrial sector to thrive. We will work to attract new investments and resolve long-standing issues of existing industries to create jobs and strengthen the state's economy,' he added.
Arora noted that a surge in industrial activity would naturally lead to increased tax revenues. 'We're inviting companies to invest here and will ensure that industrialists feel fully supported,' he stated. The minister also announced plans to begin work soon on an industrial exhibition centre, saying that land for the project would be finalised shortly.
Regarding the Halwara airport, Arora said the construction work has been completed and the proposal has been sent to the Prime Minister's Office for final approval. 'As soon as we receive clearance, the Halwara airport will be operational,' he confirmed.
In his role overseeing NRI affairs, Arora promised swift redressal of pending issues and proactive engagement with the Punjabi diaspora. 'NRI matters are close to my heart. I will personally ensure that they are handled on priority,' he said.
Arora emphasised that he would work tirelessly to uphold the trust placed in him by the people. 'Punjab's development is my mission, and I will leave no stone unturned to take the state forward,' he said.
Present with the minister were his wife Sandhya Arora, police commissioner Swapan Sharma, DCP (City) Rupinder Singh, additional deputy commissioner (general) Rakesh Kumar, additional deputy commissioner (rural development) Amarjeet Bains, along with senior district officials, police officers and Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers.

A Maharashtra-based company was allotted the work in October 2022. In 2021, the project had been put on hold for nearly eight months as landowners were protesting against the rates being offered for their land. The NHAI had then approved a four-fold increase in the compensation amount for landowners. While it was earlier paying between ₹24 lakh and ₹4.18 crore per acre, depending on the location, landowners have now been paid between ₹1 crore and ₹1.09 crore per acre.

Sindoor to Yogi-Raaj: Blend of creativity, innovation showcased at mango festival in Lucknow

(Deepak Gupta/HT Photo) Inaugurated by chief minister Yogi Adityanath at Awadh Shilpgram on Friday, the three-day festival displayed hundreds of mango varieties, but it was the unusually named ones among them that drew the attention of one and all. Among them was the red 'Sindoor' mango, named after 'Operation Sindoor', India's military response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Operation Sindoor targeted terror-related sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in May. 'Its vermilion hue symbolises the valour of the Indian Army,' said SC Shukla, a noted mango grower from Lucknow. 'It has excellent shelf life, aroma, and taste making it a tribute to the country's pride.' 'Yogi-Raaj' and 'Modi' mangoes added more flavour to the festival. The Yogi-named variety, weighing around 1.5 kg, was developed by veteran horticulturist and Padma Shri Haji Kalimullah Khan, who said, 'Its weight reflects the impactful personality of Yogi Adityanath.' The 'Modi Mango', weighing around 400 grams, was developed in 2023 by Upendra Kr Singh, a Malihabad-based grower and general secretary of the Awadh Mango Producer Horticulture Committee. 'This variety was inspired by Modi's 56-inch chest metaphor and has been patented through ICAR-CISH (Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture),' he told HT. ICAR-CISH's Vineet Singh, a senior research fellow, added: 'It was developed from a seedling and showed superior quality, hence the patent was secured.' Apple-like mango? The 'Aam-Apple', a mango which was so apple-like in appearance that it confused many at first glance, turned heads at the festival. 'This variety was sourced from Goa and is now being grown in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar,' said Sanjay Singh, who showcased the fruit. 'It thrives in most climates and tastes incredibly sweet.'
