Sharks' season back on track after 10 minutes of torment secures win over St George Illawarra
Off the back of two straight losses and after trailing at halftime, Cronulla went from 18-6 down to 22-18 up between the 47th and 57th minutes on Thursday night.
The hosts then did enough to hold on for victory at Shark Park, making it 10 in a row against their arch-rivals and keeping the Sharks fifth on the ladder.
Trindall scored a double and kicked superbly in the win, while Blayke Brailey was back to his running ways out of dummy-half early in the game.
Their Sharks teammate Sione Katoa produced one of the tries of the year with a brilliant effort that proved the match clincher.
With the Dragons down 24-18 with five minutes to play, five-eighth Lyhkan King-Togia chipped ahead and went to toe the ball on again.
But Katoa slid along the ground to catch the ball goalkeeper-style, before gathering his feet and sprinting 60 metres to score.
The result makes it two losses in a row for the Dragons, with Shane Flanagan's men now 12th and at risk of sliding further south this weekend.
For Cronulla, this was a desperately needed win.
Beaten by an undermanned Sydney Roosters and the Warriors in the Shire in their past two matches, Cronulla travel to Brisbane and Melbourne in the next fortnight.
Things started well with Brailey running out of dummy-half, and the hooker bust through the middle to send Trindall over for his first.
But after that, it was all the Dragons before the break.
Damien Cook turned back the clock for one try and King-Togia beat four defenders for another.
And when Jack de Belin went over with Sharks centre Jesse Ramien in the sin-bin for a professional foul it was 18-6.
Then it was left for Trindall to revive the Sharks in the second half.
The five-eighth put Briton Nikora over with a short ball, before staying alive to score from one of his own bombs after Clint Gutherson and Tyrell Sloan failed to defuse it.
The go-ahead try then came when Nathan Lawson dropped Trindall's next bomb, and Sione Katoa skipped to the outside of Dragons centre Moses Suli from the scrum to score.
The only concern for Cronulla came in the form of a knee injury for Mawene Hiroti, just a week after fellow centre KL Iro was ruled out for two months with a pectoral tear.

‘I'm filthy': Cameron Ciraldo says the Bulldogs haven't reached their attacking potential as Lachlan Galvin fails to fire in the halves
A frustrated Cameron Ciraldo admits his side hasn't reached its attacking potential yet this season, with the Bulldogs coach disappointed in how his team handled the second half on Friday night as the Broncos stormed home to beat them 22-18. The Bulldogs led 18-0 in the second half but conceded the final four tries as a new-look backline failed to fire the premiership fancies with the game on the line. All eyes were on mid-season recruit Lachlan Galvin who was initially named on the bench but started at five-eighth alongside Toby Sexton, with Matt Burton switching to centre given they had Stephen Crichton and Jacob Kiraz away on Origin duty. Galvin set up a try with his right boot but made two errors and didn't gel well with his teammates on the left edge in what was his second start since leaving the Wests Tigers. Canterbury's attack is an easy focus given they were leading the league before Galvin arrived, with the next two months set to determine what their spine looks like heading into the finals. 'I don't think our attack has reached its potential all year, so we're searching for that, as most clubs are,' Ciraldo said. 'We're searching for what works. We've had a lot of turnover with different back-rowers and things like that so we're still searching. 'We've got nine or 10 weeks to go to figure that out, but you've got to learn your lessons quickly. We didn't learn ours from last week and take those into tonight.' While the halves conundrum will dominate the headlines for the rest of the season, Ciraldo doesn't have to worry about being asked questions about Sexton's future after the halfback signed a deal to play for Catalans. Sexton joined the club midway through the 2023 season and has done a fine job in the halves, but his role became a major talking point once Galvin signed. 'He came and saw me last night (Thursday) and told me about it,' Ciraldo said. 'It's really good for him and his family and I'm stoked for him because he's worked really hard. 'He was playing for Tweed Heads a couple of years ago and came down to the Bulldogs to get an opportunity. 'He had to bide his time at the start and then got his opportunity, and he's done really well. 'It's a great opportunity for him over there, but he was really clear that he's not thinking about that right now. He's thinking about how we get better at the back end of the season, and that's what we're all thinking.' Ciraldo has a week to decide who he should pick in the halves for their next game, with the coach disappointed in his side's second-half performance after failing to learn lessons from last week's loss to Penrith. 'I haven't thought too far past that game. We've got to go back and review that,' he said. 'There was a lot to like about what we did in the first half, but there are some lessons there. I'm filthy that we didn't learn our lessons from last week. 'We had to stand up and be better this week than what we were last week in those areas that we practised all week, but we weren't. 'I thought we were trying to force it too much. 'I thought the Broncos were defending really well at the start of the second half and we earned some possession, but we had to keep asking questions and play the field position game. 'We didn't, we tried to force it and it probably played into their hands.'

Benji Marshall denies altercation with Adam Doueihi.
Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News. West Tigers coach Benji Marshall says reports he had an altercation with stare centre Adam Doueihi during an opposed training session are 'not true' and he's got the video to prove it. Reports emerged this week that Marshall was involved in a heated training confrontation with Doueihi after the pair tangled when the coach got involved in a drill. But those reports were emphatically refuted by Marshall on Friday who said it was only an issue because his team wasn't winning. 'I'm not going to add any fuel to something that's not true,' Marshall said. 'I'll show you the video. Benji Marshall at Wests Tigers training at Concord. Picture: Sam Ruttyn Marshall denied any altercation with Adam Doueihi (right). 'I've been doing it (joining in training) for the last three years and all of a sudden now it's become an issue. 'It's not about me, the way I coach or the way I do things or whatever, there's always a reason for it. 'It comes down to winning and losing and when you are losing these things come out.' After a bright start to the season, the Tigers have fallen to 14th on the ladder on the back of six straight losses which Marshall said would always bring pressure. But he was adamant the Tigers were still on an 'upward trajectory' and wouldn't be derailed by off field noise. 'You are under pressure. But you have to keep believing in what you are doing. Keep fighting for everything,' he said. 'And as long as inside the four walls with our playing group we are solid with what we are doing and where we want to go, then nothing else matters. 'The only pressure I feel is I want these guys to do well, I want the club to do well. 'Coaching is a privilege and what comes with that, you understand winning and losing determines everything. 'Although we have been losing, we are on an upward trajectory. 'If those wins don't start coming, then of course this talk will start happening. I knew what I was getting into when I took the job.' The Tigers will tackle the Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Originally published as West Tigers coach Benji Marshall denies altercation with Adam Doueihi

Broncos pull off ‘great escape' as Bulldogs self-destruct
The Broncos overcame a horror first half to pull off the heist of the season and stun the Bulldogs thanks to three moments of magic from five-eighth Ezra Mam, who was booed every time he touched the ball. The visitors are now well and truly in the hunt for a top-four spot after leaving Accor Stadium with a 22-18 victory when it looked at one stage like they would lose by 40. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer > The Broncos were dead and buried when Matt Burton slotted a penalty goal to put the hosts up 18-0 early in the second half, but some Mam brilliance turned the game on its head as Brisbane crossed four times in the final 20 minutes to steal the win. 'That's the great escape. These are grand final like celebrations,' Dan Ginnane said on Fox League. 'They've come from the clouds,' Cooper Cronk said. The Bulldogs' collapse left the Fox League panel in shock. 'I'm in disbelief over what just happened,' Greg Alexander said while Mick Ennis added: 'They completely self-destructed the Dogs … it just fell apart'. The Broncos couldn't have played any worse in the first half as Selwyn Cobbo struggled in his return to first grade, but the undermanned Broncos still had Mam who took it upon himself to steal the win. The classy five-eighth got the ball rolling when he found Josiah Karapani with a long ball, with the winger dancing through to score a stunner from near halfway. Mam then played short to set up journeyman Delouise Hoeter for a try five minutes later, before Billy Walters burrowed over from close range to bring them within two. A Kotoni Staggs break should have resulted in a Broncos penalty from wide out, but it mattered little as Mam played short to send Brendan Piakura over for the winner with seven minutes to go after he passed an early HIA. An hour before kick off, Lachlan Galvin was promoted to the Dogs' starting side with Matt Burton shifting into the centres. For the first try, Galvin combined with Connor Tracey and Marcelo Montoya down the short side off a scrum to create space, with Montoya diving over in the corner. Burton scored the Bulldogs' second try after an outstanding chip and chase from 30 metres out. 'Not too many players can do that,' Cooper Cronk said in commentary. Montoya's pass in the lead up was also a highlight. The Bulldogs winger kept the play alive on tackle five after collecting an errant pass and when he was tackled, kept it alive again with a miraculous flick pass over his head. BIG HITS HALF MEASURES Friday's shock result cost the Bulldogs any chance of finishing the round in first spot, with their second-half fadeout set to leave coach Cameron Ciraldo furious given his side should have been able to defend the lead. Next year's halves situation may be looking a lot clearer with confirmation Toby Sexton is off to the Super League, but the playmaker conundrum for the rest of 2025 remains a mystery after the Bulldogs pulled a late switch on Friday night. Ciraldo declared on Thursday that his plans for Lachlan Galvin wouldn't be influenced by the same people who questioned his side's recruitment strategy, but the mid-season recruit did end up starting on the same day that Sexton's move to join Catalans in 2026 was confirmed. While the halfback won't be there next year, he still remains a key figure this season, with the only question who will partner him in the halves. Matt Burton was named at five-eighth after finally not being the NSW 18th man, but he started at left centre thanks to a late reshuffle that saw Galvin start in the halves. Both men had their moments – Burton scored and Galvin had some joy with his kicking game – but they didn't combine well in attack on a night that didn't provide Ciraldo with the answers he would have wanted. OH NO COBBO Cobbo's first game since round 13 couldn't have gone any worse with the Broncos fullback at fault for two tries on a night that justified Michael Maguire's decision to drop him to reserve grade. The former Maroons star had been out for a month but got his chance with Reece Walsh and Gehamat Shibasaki away on Origin duty, but it was a night to forget for the young man who is off to the Dolphins in 2026. Cobbo and Deine Mariner failed to clean up a kick which allowed Burton to score, while he didn't catch a Galvin bomb which ended up with Viliame Kikau crashing over. He also sent a kick-off sailing out on the full and fumbled a ball when the Broncos had a rare attacking opportunity which could see him sent straight back to reserve grade. He wasn't the only one who struggled with skipper Adam Reynolds kicking out on the full twice, sending a grubber dead and having another one charged down before he nailed some clutch goals to seal the win.
