Advanced metric highlights Dyami Brown's potential in Jaguars' offense
ESPN's advanced Receiver Score metric helps illustrate why the Jaguars felt that way.

Using tracking data from NFL Next Gen Stats, this metric evaluates every route a pass catcher runs and scores their performance based on whether or not they got open, if they made the reception, and any YAC that was picked up.
From there, an overall score is generated, and among all wide receivers and tight ends last season, Brown ranked 46th.
Brown's production has been modest throughout his career. His 30 receptions and 308 receiving yards during the 2024 regular season were both career highs. However, during the playoffs, we got a glimpse of his potential when Brown totaled 229 receiving yards in three games with Washington.
The addition of Brown to the Jaguars' offense adds more speed with his ability to win vertically and turn short-area throws or designed touches into explosive plays with his YAC abilities.

But Coen views Brown as someone who can make an impact on the intermediate routes as well, allowing him to attack all levels of the field. Being able to move around the formation and make plays in all areas of the field is an important element to playing wideout in this scheme.
"You didn't really see him work the intermediate that much [in Washington], and I think over the course of this spring, Trevor and him have gained a little bit of a chemistry on some of those intermediate in-breakers, curls, maybe outcuts," Coen said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.
Brown has also caught the attention of quarterback Trevor Lawrence this offseason as well.
'Man, I've been super impressed with him," Lawrence said during minicamp. "His speed. Obviously, he is a threat down the field, which is important as a receiver who can stretch the field. But also, he's a really, really smart football player."

Brown will join Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter as one of the Jaguars' top options in the passing game this season.

Chicago Cubs select LHP Pierce Coppola in Round 7 of 2025 MLB draft
The Chicago Cubs took Florida left-hander Pierce Coppola 13 picks after Jake Clemente went in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB draft. Coppola's 211th overall pick has a slot value of $278,500. Pegged as a weekend starter from the time he was a prospect, injuries slowed down the 6-foot-8 lefty's career, keeping him on the shelf for the better part of two seasons. When Coppola was healthy, he was among the best strikeout artists in the SEC. Coppola learned to rely on break more than power after making multiple returns to the mound, and it's easy to see why the Cubs were willing to grab him a bit higher than projections suggested. Coppola followed Clemente and Colby Shelton (Round 6, Pick 166) in a string of Gators coming off the board. Pierce Coppola before Florida Coppola was a top-50 high school player in the class of 2021 out of Verona High in New Jersey. Perfect Game ranked him the ninth-best left-hander in the class, and he had Day 1 draft pick potential. Injury concerns and a strong commitment to Florida led to Coppola going undrafted. Out of high school, Coppola threw 92-93 mph and topped out at 94 with an obviously projectable frame. The big slider and changeup also played at the prep level. Injuries slow start in Gainesville Once Coppola got to Florida, he immediately slotted into the Sunday starting role. He made his lone appearance for 2022 season against Liberty, striking out seven of the 20 batters he faced over 4 1/3 innings. Bulging disc surgery sidelined him for the rest of the year, burning his redshirt after things got worse quicker than expected. Coppola could have appealed for a medical redshirt after throwing just one game before the injury, but a shoulder issue led to him missing the entirety of Year 2. By this point, the hype on Coppola was still there, but he never stayed healthy enough to pitch when it mattered in spring. Return to action, twice Coppola made his return in SEC play during the 2024 season. He started all eight games he appeared in but ramped up from 1-plus innings to five in an elimination game against Kentucky. Coppola gave up 23 runs over 23 2/3 innings as a redshirt sophomore, but his strikeout rate stayed above 30%, even against SEC bats following a two-year break. Things looked good for Coppola to start the season. He went five strong in each of his first two starts, striking out 20 of the 37 batters he faced. The injury bug bit again during his third start of the year during the Miami series. It led to the rise of Aidan King in the rotation, but it's another tough blow for a player who can't seem to stay healthy. All the injuries are seemingly unrelated, too. Coppola came back in May to help a depleted pitching staff in Gainesville through the end of the year. His 2.53 ERA and 46.7% strikeout rate over 21 1/3 innings is the stuff that gets drafted in Day 1, but there's more to the story with Coppola. If he can stay healthy, he'll be a steal for the Cubs. Can Shemar Stewart return to college instead of signing with Bengals?
The Shemar Stewart situation has gotten very chaotic as the first-round pick in 2025 -- who impressed everyone at the NFL Combine -- for the Cincinnati Bengals continues to hold out. It's gotten to the point where we're just weeks away from training camp, Stewart is arguing that he wants the language in his contract to look like those of usual Bengals first-rounders ... and suddenly, everyone's now wondering: would it be possible for the defensive end to... return to Texas A&M? What the what? Why would he want that in the first place, you ask? Well, given NIL, he might be able to make as much (and maybe more?) money if he's back in college. But how can someone taken in the NFL Draft go back to his college? This is where it gets a little tricky. It's all hypothetical. Here's what he could do. Could Shemar Stewart find a loophole to go back to Texas A&M? Maybe it comes in the form of a lawsuit. He could sue the NCAA to break the rules about a player going back to college once they're drafted, so that's on the table. From CBS Sports: During Monday's episode of the Cover 3 podcast, CBS Sports college analyst Bud Elliott noted that Stewart has actually been working out at Texas A&M this summer. "A guy who has had some good A&M stuff in the past, he hit me, he's like, 'Hey, Shemar might end up back here,'" Elliott said. ... "'He's been at College Station, he's been fully involved in workouts, He's holding out from the Bengals, (the) relationship is toxic. He could try to come back and play again this season and go into the draft again next year.'" Could Shemar Stewart play in the CFL? Possibly, but as that article above notes, the Bengals would have his NFL rights for three years. Could Shemar Stewart go back into the NFL Draft? Yes. He'd just not have to play football for a year. So, yeah this is getting pretty dramatic, I'd say. Stay tuned.

WNBA Expansion Team Brings Back Nostalgic Name, Portland Fire

The name and logo was a nostalgic touch, giving the brand an uplift from when the city had a team from 2000 to 2003. The team is leaning into the nickname of the city, the Rose City but also on the long-standing history of being passionate and fiery women's sports fans. Additionally, the name has a direct tie to the Portland Thorns, the NWSL team that is owned by RAJ Sports, the same investment group that now owns the Portland Fire as well. The two teams have been purposely intertwined from the beginning. When Portland was announced as one of the next WNBA expansion cities, plans were revealed for joint training facilities between the Thorns and now Fire. It seems compared to other expansion teams that have received flack and disapproval for their name and logo from fans (i.e., Toronto Tempo and now Boston Legacy), Portland tied themselves to the history of the city as well as their roots in the WNBA from decades prior. Claire Hamill, Portland Fire Interim President said, "As a city that has long championed women's sports, Portland is ready to reclaim its place in the WNBA and reignite its connection to the game on the world stage. We are thrilled to complete the journey of bringing professional women's basketball back to the Rose City, while honoring the legacy of the original franchise to blaze a new, bold path forward.' Portland seems to be headed in the right direction blazing their way forward. Similar to the trajectory of the Golden State Valkyries, the Fire have already surpassed 10,000 season ticket deposits demonstrating the rich interest and excitement in Portland for women's professional basketball.
