French Minister: Paris Festival Tribute to Morocco Reflects Vibrancy of Moroccan Literature
'As of tomorrow, we will be celebrating the strength and above all, the vibrancy of Morocco's literary and publishing scene,' Dati said on Wednesday.
The French minister made her remarks on a recent occasion held in honor of Morocco.
Morocco's Ambassador to France Samira Sitail and Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco's Minister of Culture, also attended the reception at the French Ministry of Culture, which gathered key cultural figures from the two countries.
'This evening's reception is, of course, a symbol of the cultural friendship that binds France and the Kingdom of Morocco,' Dati said, extending an invitation to all people across cultural sectors and generations who 'bring to light the cultural relationship' between France and Morocco.
'You are the everyday actors of this extraordinary creative vitality that energizes Morocco and of the thirst for culture that unites our countries,' she added.
France's Culture Minister also commended Morocco's commitment to the cultural sector, noting the unwavering support of King Mohammed VI for cultural issues.
She additionally emphasized the need to nurture and sustain bilateral ties between the two countries, recalling Emmanuel Macron's visit to Morocco in October 2024.
'This commitment has been framed as an exceptional partnership,' Dati said, noting that this exceptional nature has been greatly reinforced by both countries' willingness to open a whole new chapter in their diplomatic relations.
Dati also expressed pride in her Moroccan roots, describing immigration as an 'extraordinary opportunity for France' and Morocco.
The minister concluded her remarks by launching the Mediterranean Season, scheduled to be hosted in May next year by the Institut Français (French Institute) establishments across Morocco, calling on Moroccan cultural actors to participate actively.

Hassan Ouakrim played a pivotal role in promoting Moroccan culture in the United States. Born in 1947 in the village of Aday near Tafraout, he moved to Tangier as a child to join his father, a charcoal vendor in the kasbah of Tangier, and to pursue his studies. He later continued his education in Marrakech, where he was deeply influenced by street performance and Sufi mysticism. In 1968, Ouakrim founded Inossis, a Berber ballet theater group blending Amazigh folklore with modern performance, recounts US-based Moroccan academic and music journalist Hisham Aidi in his documentary about Ouakrim, A Thousand and One Berber Nights. In 1972, he moved to New York after being invited by Ellen Stewart, the legendary founder of La MaMa Experimental Theater. He went on to become a longtime artistic director there, introducing American audiences to traditional Moroccan dances such as Ahwach and Gnawa. He mentored countless students, organized cultural events, and lived in New York's East Village, surrounded by North African artifacts and memorabilia. His memoir, Memoir of A Berber, Part I, traces his early life, artistic journey, and deep spiritual convictions.

Fado Festival in Rabat to celebrate Carlos Paredes with concerts and screenings

The Mohammed V National Theatre will host two evenings of concerts, talks, and a film screening, offering audiences an in-depth look at the extraordinary legacy of this legendary musician. On Thursday, September 18, the program opens at 6:30 PM with a conference titled The Importance of Paredes in the Development of Modern Portuguese Guitar, led by acclaimed guitarist and educator Paulo Soares. Soares will explore the artistic and technical innovations introduced by Paredes, whose modern approach to the Portuguese guitar inspired generations of musicians. 550 children from 25 countries unite in Rabat to launch global call for peace
Children from 25 countries gathered in Rabat on Friday to launch a multilingual Call for Peace, urging dialogue among nations, the rejection of hatred, and the promotion of tolerance and coexistence. The message was delivered in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish during a reception hosted by the House of Representatives as part of the 17th edition of the International Festival of Peace Children. «We, children of the world, have come from different continents, carrying a thousand wishes. We have packed our bags not to flee war, but to send a message to the world, a message from pure hearts whose only language is love and whose only weapon is childhood», they declared. «O world, enough of death, enough of fire that burns hearts before homes, enough of childhood buried under rubble, trapped and tormented by hunger and thirst. Hear us... hear the children of the world», the statement implored. The children expressed their hope to grow up in a world free of war, where songs of love and peace can be heard. They signed the message «from Morocco, land of coexistence and harmony», and launched it «from the podium of Parliament, the voice of the people and the echo of justice».
