Midtjylland boss Thomas Thomasberg is thrilled to see his team hitting their attacking stride after just one pre-season game, as the Danish club warm up for their Europa League clash with Hibs. And he singled out striker Franculino Dju for praise after the Guinea-Bissau forward scored both goals as a youthful side beat Superliga rivals Silkeborg in a low-key training ground match. The Danish championship kicks off a couple of weeks earlier than the SPFL Scottish Premiership, with Midtjylland at home to Odense Boldklub – Hibs midfielder Alasana Manneh's former side – on July 20. They host Hibs in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie four days later, with the return match at Easter Road on July 31. But he was pleased with the performances of academy kids thrown into the second-half mix against experienced opponents. Thomasberg, whose dismissive instant reaction to being drawn against Hibs didn't go down well among David Gray's squad, said: 'I got what I hoped for - in both halves. I'm very happy with the first half and the sea of chances, if you can call it that, that we created. 'Franculino scores two goals, and he could have scored more on a good day. We saw again that we have some offensive players who can create something on their own every time we get there. 'I'm actually quite impressed with the young players we were bringing on in the second half. They're a match for a Silkeborg team that still has a lot of established Superliga players. They manage to get on the ball a lot and put something together, and they also defended really well. It just goes to show that we have really good talent development here at the club.' The 23-year-old, who finished as top scorer for CD Mafra in the Portuguese second tier last season, is tipped for big things following his recent move within the stable of clubs controlled by Midtjylland owner Anders Holch Povlsen – Denmark's richest man. Etim insists he's still settling into his new surroundings - but declared: 'It feels great to have gotten my first minutes for the club. It helps me build my momentum. Former Hibs, Celtic and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths has cause something of a surprise after confirming the latest move in his career. After kicking off his professional career with Livingston and Dundee, Griffiths earned a move to England as he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers. A successful loan spell spanning almost two seasons with Hibs brought 31 goals in 66 appearances and that really kickstarted his career as Griffiths went on to enjoy a trophy-laden spell with Celtic after making a permanent move to the Glasgow giants in January 2014. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad By the time his eight-year spell with the Hoops had come to a close, Griffiths had claimed seven Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups. After leaving Celtic for a short stint at Falkirk during the second half of the 2021/22 season, Griffith tested his fortunes abroad when he joined Australian third tier side Mandurah City and acted as a player-coach for the Western Australia-based outfit last season. Griffiths has now made the latest move in his career after agreeing to remain in Australia with Stirling Macedonia for their National Premier League Western Australia and Australia Cup campaigns and made his debut as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with Perth SC over the weekend. A statement from Stirling Macedonia following his arrival read: "We're delighted to officially welcome Leigh Griffiths to Stirling Macedonia! A former Celtic FC player and Scotland international, Leigh arrives with a proven attacking pedigree and years of top-level experience. He adds genuine firepower to our front third and brings invaluable leadership to the squad. Welcome to the Stirling family, Leigh!" The club's football operations manager, Keegan Ashley, added: "What a pleasure it is to have someone of Leigh's experience join us at Stirling Macedonia. He brings genuine quality in the attacking third and will have a big impact not only on the pitch but off it as well—helping guide and mentor our younger players as they develop their game." Portuguese winger Jair Tavares leaves Hibs with everyone's best wishes

Jair Tavares has left Hibs by mutual consent. The 24-year-old has agreed a deal with the Club and departs with the very best wishes of everyone at Easter Road. The Portuguese winger joined Hibs in the summer of 2022 and went on to make 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals. The majority of Tavares' appearances came during the 2023/24 campaign, with him spending last season on loan at fellow William Hill Premiership side Motherwell. On his departure, Hibs Head Coach David Gray said: 'Jair hasn't had as much game-time as he'd have liked over the last few seasons, so it makes sense for both parties to come to this agreement. 'At 24, he still has the opportunity to develop, and we wish him nothing but the best with the next steps in his career.' Like this: Like Related
