Time running out to join SAPS in 2025

IOL News2 days ago
The SAPS is accepting online applications from South Africans aged 18 to 35 as part of a nationwide recruitment drive.
Young South Africans have just days left to apply for one of 5 500 SAPS trainee posts - and for the first time, it's all online.
The South African Police Service has officially launched its e-Recruitment drive, giving youth aged, 18 to 35 until July 18, 2025, to apply. This new system means no paperwork, no queues - just one simple online application
The shift to a digital platform is expected to reduce paperwork, curb corruption and nepotism, and prevent lost applications. It will also enhance fairness, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and improve the integrity and speed of the recruitment process.
Qualifying young men and women without criminal records and/or pending criminal cases are encouraged to apply by visiting www.saps.gov.za/careers then select the e-Recruitment portal from the drop down menu.
The SAPS will also run a targeted recruitment process to identify candidates with specialised skills or qualifications - including graduates in law, policing, criminology, law enforcement, forensic investigation, and information technology. These applicants may be considered for placement in elite units such as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Detective and Forensic Services, and Crime Intelligence.
Successful recruits will undergo nine-month-long training at the SAPS training academies nationwide and receive a monthly stipend of R4 500.
The application process is free of charge, and no position within the SAPS is for sale. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the official SAPS website portal.

Jayden-Lee Meek's mother likened to Kelly Smith after THIS comment

South Africans are comparing the actions of Jayden-Lee Meek's mother, Tiffany, to those of Kelly Smith, the mother of missing Saldanha Bay girl, Joslin Smith. This after the woman accused of murdering her 11-year-old son made similar comments that her child's appearance had made them internet famous. Like Kelly, Tiffany initially appeared as a concerned mother. However, both women were later accused of duping the public through soliciting sympathy. Kelly is currently serving a life sentence for kidnapping and child trafficking, while Tiffany will make her second court appearance on charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice and crimen injuria. In an interview with Newzroom Afrika just two days after Jayden-Lee Meek's death, Tiffany raised 'red flags' when she said: 'My child wanted to go viral. Unfortunately, this is the way it had to happen'. She added: 'His biggest thing was he was going to be a star, and he will remain a star in my life'. The clip recently resurfaced on social media, where many South Africans compared Tiffany's comments to those made by Joslin Smith's mother, Kelly. @tezzbarry: 'What did Kelly say? Joshlin made me famous. And now Tiffany says Jayden-Lee Meek always wanted to go viral 🙄biggest red flag' @renepillay888: 'She took everyone for a ride … Tiffany and Kelly, same WhatsApp group'. @simba000: 'She can now join Kelly Smith for life in prison. No mother in the right sense of mind will harm her own children'. @ Replying to @Lisa_p 🌹 #justiceforjayden #jaydenleemeek #jaydenlee #sanews #newsupdate #news ♬ original sound – Roxanne Bloem Like Jayden-Lee Meek's tragic case, Kelly Smith's sentencing made headlines around the country. During the kidnapping and trafficking trial, the court heard how the mother-of-three made shocking comments about her daughter before and after her disappearance. According to the testimony of Saldanha SAPS station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Lincoln Sebola, Kelly's behaviour 'concerned' him. He said: 'When she came into the charge office, she was communicating with a SAPS officer whom she knew. She was acting like it was normal that her child was not there. What concerned me was when she said in her own words: 'My child Joslin made me famous'. That made me worry. Especially as a parent'. Jayden-Lee Meek's mother Tiffany has been compared to Kelly Smith. Images via Facebook/ eNCA Similar words were made by fellow witness, community activist, Shakeera Ganief, also known as 'Shakes Warrior'. Shakes said of her liaison with Kelly: 'Something very disturbing took place that day. 'It was the moment the Temple Boys were performing a song for the kids [during a church service for Joslin Smith]. Kelly was busy dancing and having a good time, and she was just on top of the world that day, when she made reference again, Yoh, my kind [child] maak [making] my [me] famous.' Khutsong kidnapping shocks community during ongoing power outages

A 22-year-old man from Khutsong Extension 5 was kidnapped during a terrifying house robbery on the evening of Friday, July 12, adding to growing concerns about violent crime in the area. The incident unfolded around 19:00 in the 70s section of Khutsong Ext 5, where a group of young people were gathered around a fire outside a home. With Welverdiend and surrounding areas continuing to experience prolonged power outages, the group had resorted to using the fire to keep warm. According to witnesses, four unknown men, speaking Sesotho, approached and asked to buy eggs. When told there were none, they questioned a 20-year-old woman, asking if she was 'the woman of the house.' After she responded that their parents were not home, the situation escalated dramatically. The suspects drew firearms and forced the group to the back of the house. They demanded money and forced the woman's brother to open a household safe. The armed robbers stole cash, several cellphones, electronic equipment, and alcohol—before kidnapping the young man as they fled the scene. The victim's mother received a phone call from the kidnappers the following morning. The suspects demanded ransom money for her son's release. Local police have opened a case of house robbery and kidnapping. No arrests have been made at the time of publication. A senior officer involved in the investigation urged residents to install GPS tracking apps on family members' phones as a preventative measure. 'This can help us locate missing persons or kidnapping victims much faster, especially in cases where time is critical,' he said. The incident has left many residents feeling unsafe, particularly with the current lack of electricity and increased vulnerability during the night. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Khutsong police station or report anonymously via the SAPS Crime Stop line at 08600 10111.
