Time running out to join SAPS in 2025
Young South Africans have just days left to apply for one of 5 500 SAPS trainee posts - and for the first time, it's all online.
The South African Police Service has officially launched its e-Recruitment drive, giving youth aged, 18 to 35 until July 18, 2025, to apply. This new system means no paperwork, no queues - just one simple online application
The shift to a digital platform is expected to reduce paperwork, curb corruption and nepotism, and prevent lost applications. It will also enhance fairness, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and improve the integrity and speed of the recruitment process.
Qualifying young men and women without criminal records and/or pending criminal cases are encouraged to apply by visiting www.saps.gov.za/careers then select the e-Recruitment portal from the drop down menu.
The SAPS will also run a targeted recruitment process to identify candidates with specialised skills or qualifications - including graduates in law, policing, criminology, law enforcement, forensic investigation, and information technology. These applicants may be considered for placement in elite units such as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Detective and Forensic Services, and Crime Intelligence.
Successful recruits will undergo nine-month-long training at the SAPS training academies nationwide and receive a monthly stipend of R4 500.
The application process is free of charge, and no position within the SAPS is for sale. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the official SAPS website portal.

During the kidnapping and trafficking trial, the court heard how the mother-of-three made shocking comments about her daughter before and after her disappearance. According to the testimony of Saldanha SAPS station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Lincoln Sebola, Kelly's behaviour 'concerned' him. He said: 'When she came into the charge office, she was communicating with a SAPS officer whom she knew. She was acting like it was normal that her child was not there. Khutsong CPF and SAPS honoured for service at community awards ceremony
Local heroes in the fight against crime were celebrated during the Khutsong Community Policing Forum (CPF) Award Ceremony, which took place on Friday, 5 July, at the Khutsong Community Hall. The event recognised the commitment and hard work of CPF members, SAPS officers, and community patrollers who continue to dedicate themselves to creating a safer community. The ceremony was attended by CPF management, SAPS officials, and patrollers, all of whom were honoured with medals, cups, and trophies for their outstanding service. Special awards were given to top-performing members who have shown exceptional dedication to their duties. The event also featured motivational speeches from guest speakers, who encouraged CPF and SAPS members to continue their vital work. A standout performance by local artist Tee Jay Omar added a memorable musical element to the day. Omar, who was also recognised for his community contributions, delivered a soul-soothing set that kept the audience entertained. Khutsong kidnapping shocks community during ongoing power outages
A 22-year-old man from Khutsong Extension 5 was kidnapped during a terrifying house robbery on the evening of Friday, July 12, adding to growing concerns about violent crime in the area. The incident unfolded around 19:00 in the 70s section of Khutsong Ext 5, where a group of young people were gathered around a fire outside a home. With Welverdiend and surrounding areas continuing to experience prolonged power outages, the group had resorted to using the fire to keep warm. According to witnesses, four unknown men, speaking Sesotho, approached and asked to buy eggs. When told there were none, they questioned a 20-year-old woman, asking if she was 'the woman of the house.' After she responded that their parents were not home, the situation escalated dramatically. The suspects drew firearms and forced the group to the back of the house. They demanded money and forced the woman's brother to open a household safe. The armed robbers stole cash, several cellphones, electronic equipment, and alcohol—before kidnapping the young man as they fled the scene. The victim's mother received a phone call from the kidnappers the following morning. The suspects demanded ransom money for her son's release. Local police have opened a case of house robbery and kidnapping. No arrests have been made at the time of publication. A senior officer involved in the investigation urged residents to install GPS tracking apps on family members' phones as a preventative measure. 'This can help us locate missing persons or kidnapping victims much faster, especially in cases where time is critical,' he said. The incident has left many residents feeling unsafe, particularly with the current lack of electricity and increased vulnerability during the night.
