Ejen Ali 2: Hit movie scores big in Indonesia as versatile actor Azman Zulkiply continues to shine as voice actor

Ejen Ali The Movie 2 (EATM2), the highly anticipated sequel to Malaysia's hit animated feature, is enjoying a strong run in Indonesia, with its theatrical release now extended to 240 cinemas, more than triple the number when it premiered on June 27.
In just five days, the film has attracted over 174,000 moviegoers of all ages, especially children, marking a significant milestone for the homegrown animation in a competitive entertainment market.
WAU Animation chief executive officer and EATM2 director Usamah Zaid Yasin said the team had not expected such an overwhelming reception, particularly as Indonesia does not operate a 'mandatory screening' system like Malaysia.
"We entered the market at the perfect time during the school holidays, backed by strong local partnerships, distributors and a communications agency that truly understands the Indonesian audience,' he told Bernama.
Usamah attributed the film's early momentum to the loyal Ejen Ali digital fanbase in Indonesia, cultivated over the years through YouTube and social media, alongside strategic collaborations with Indonesian animation studios and a soundtrack feature with popular local band Nidji.
He said these localisation efforts gave the film a familiar touch and a sense of ownership for Indonesian viewers, and he expects viewership to continue rising in the coming weeks.
With momentum building, EATM2 is expected to debut in Cambodia, following recent successful runs in Singapore and Brunei, cementing its growing regional footprint.
In another development, there is no doubt that Rizwan's character in Ejen Ali The Movie 2 (EATM2) is one of the characters that most captured the audience's attention, not only because of his solid fighting skills, but also because of his cool appearance and gruff voice.
Behind this character stands the figure of a very experienced and versatile actor, Azman Zulkiply.
Interestingly, Rizwan is not the only character voiced by Azman in EATM2. He also plays the roles of General Rama and Viktor, each representing three different racial backgrounds, namely Malay, Chinese, and Indian. Of course, it is not easy to bring a character to life with different speaking styles and accents, but Azman said he loved the experience.
"This is my proudest achievement in my career. (EATM2) What a ride, the opportunity to play three characters was an amazing experience," said Azman in a special interview.
"I have many friends. Malays, Chinese and Indians, they are amazing people. That is why this country is so great. It is my utmost honour that I could voice over for all three characters.
"I thank the EATM 2 team for giving me this opportunity, it is something I will never forget," added Azman.
Even more impressive is that Azman has been voicing these three characters for almost a decade, spanning more than half of his career in voice acting, and it also makes it easier for him to delve deeply into each character and give each one a unique touch.
"Being involved here is one of the happiest moments of my career. I'm so glad EATM 2 is also doing so well in many countries besides Malaysia. The support is wonderful and I hope we keep on going for more," Said Azman.
For the record, EATM 2 is produced by WAU Animation in collaboration with Primeworks Studios (PWS). The film, which follows the story of a 12-year-old boy who accidentally becomes a spy, has grossed nearly RM60 million to date, with more regional releases in the pipeline.

National Unity Ministry to launch Ethnic Minority Festival Calendar in January 2026

SIBU: The Ministry of National Unity will, for the first time, publish the Ethnic Minority Festival Calendar in January 2026 in a bid to strengthen understanding and unity among the country's multi-racial population. Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang said the calendar would compile comprehensive information on the dates, backgrounds and descriptions of traditional festivals and ceremonies celebrated by ethnic minorities across the country. 'This calendar is not just a list of festival dates but serves as a medium for cultural education aimed at fostering mutual respect and appreciation for ethnic diversity, which is the cornerstone of Malaysia's strength,' he said when officiating the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival (BDCF) 2025 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here tonight. Aaron said the calendar would be distributed in both printed and electronic formats to ministries, government departments, educational institutions and other stakeholders. 'With this calendar, the community will become more aware of festivals such as Irau Aco (Lun Bawang), Songkran Festival (Siamese), Kalimaran Festival (Murut), Lepa-Lepa Festival (Bajau), Magahau Festival (Rungus) and Mipis Festival (Dusun Lotud). 'We will gain a better understanding of cultural sensitivities and, more importantly, develop greater respect for one another as Malaysians,' he said. Aaron added that national unity could not be achieved without mutual respect and cultural understanding. 'Only through understanding and accepting cultural differences can the spirit of 'Harmony in Diversity' be instilled in our daily lives,' he said. Commenting on the BDCF, Aaron said the festival, now in its 21st edition, reflected the cultural strength and harmony among Sarawak's diverse communities, including the Dayak, Malay, Melanau and Chinese. 'This festival is unique and special, as it highlights unity in cultural diversity through artistic performances, traditional food and ethnic heritage,' he said. Carrying the theme 'Rhythm of Borneo 2025', this year's edition also saw the introduction of a new official mascot, Engkuli, the local name for the Harimau Dahan (Neofelis diardi), which represents biodiversity preservation and the natural wealth of Borneo. According to Aaron, Sarawak - home to over 30 ethnic groups and more than 40 dialects - was the best example of how cultural diversity could serve as a foundation for social unity and strength. - Bernama

#SHOWBIZ: Actor Lee Lung Kei welcomes fiancee with 60 roses after her release from jail

HONG KONG: Veteran Hong Kong actor Lee Lung Kei has reunited with his Chinese fiancée, Chris Wong, after more than a year apart. Wong, whose real name is Wang Qingxia, was sentenced in June 2024 to 25 months in prison for charges relating to falsifying documents and overstaying in Hong Kong, as reported by The Straits Times. The 37-year-old was released on July 7 after her jail sentence was commuted and was immediately deported to mainland China. Lee, 74, was at the arrival hall in Shenzhen to meet Wong, welcoming her with a bouquet of 60 roses. He told the media that the 60 roses symbolised "loving you every second" and expressed his relief at no longer having to see her through a glass barrier. Wong did not speak to the media. In photos Lee shared with Hong Kong media, Wong was seen in a pink outfit, a black hat, and wearing a face mask. Lee was beaming with smiles, while Wong appeared tired. "Chris has a house in Foshan, but she doesn't want to return there (for now) and meet too many people," Lee explained. "I've rented a unit in Zhuhai for her to settle down in and will keep her company during this time." The former TVB star stated he would accompany her to Foshan to meet her parents after she had rested for a few days, adding that marriage registration is on the cards. Lee, best known for playing emperors in Hong Kong dramas, and Wong have been in the spotlight since their relationship was revealed in 2020, primarily due to their significant age gap. This high-profile relationship led to media scrutiny of Wong's past, which uncovered that she had falsified her academic qualifications and plagiarised other artistes' works. Wong was detained in February 2024 and faced seven charges, including breaching her conditions of stay in Hong Kong and using fake documents. She pleaded guilty to five of the charges.

#SHOWBIZ: HK actress Samantha Ko struggles with mental health issues and panic attacks

HONG KONG: Actress Samantha Ko has candidly discussed her battles with mental health during a recent interview with Hong Kong actor, host, and director Lawrence Cheng. Ko's popularity has soared following her starring role in the 2023 TVB drama, The Queen Of News. Her portrayal of morning news anchor Cathy earned the 38-year-old the Best Supporting Actress accolade at the TVB Awards in 2024. Appearing on Cheng's online show, HiEggo, uploaded to YouTube on July 4, Ko revealed she has experienced depression, emotional instability, and panic attacks. The panic attacks began during the Covid-19 pandemic when her work frequently required her to travel to mainland China. "I went to the mainland alone with two pieces of luggage, and there was a need to quarantine then," she explained. "I had to shuttle between both sides and sometimes had to stay in China for six months by myself." Ko shared that she was particularly hard hit emotionally after her grandfather passed away, as she was unable to return to Hong Kong to see him one last time. "I remember one day when I went to the supermarket with my mother," she recalled. "I was standing by the road with two bags of stuff and waiting for the traffic light. A truck passed by and an idea came to my mind: 'What will happen if I step out?' At that moment, I took a step back subconsciously and was shocked by my own thought." The actress sought help from a psychiatrist soon after, noting that she had always been an optimistic person with few negative thoughts. "He said that I didn't need to take medicine and he would help me by chatting with me once a week. But I took along some medicine with me in case it was needed." Ko also recounted a panic attack during the filming of The Queen Of News. The scene involved her character witnessing a woman being hit by a car after jumping from a balcony. "My mind went blank and I became more nervous," she said. "Every time I made a mistake (in my lines), she had to jump again. She might meet with a real accident even though she was a stuntwoman." Ko broke down in tears and was unable to continue with the scene. Filming for that scene was subsequently cancelled and rescheduled for another day. "The incident left a deep impression on my mind as it turned out that I couldn't bear this kind of psychological pressure," she said. To maintain a calm state of mind, Ko regularly uses techniques such as meditation. "Many people may only take note of their physical pain when they get too busy without realising the psychological pressure they are going through," she said. "That's why I urge everyone to take note of their mental health."
