Rod Stewart Admits His Lavish 80th Birthday Celebration Cost an ‘Absolute Fortune'

Yahoo22-05-2025
Rod Stewart spared no expense when it came to his 80th birthday.
The legendary singer-songwriter, who turned 80 in January, revealed he celebrated his milestone birthday by cruising the ocean on a yacht with his loved ones.
'We hired a massive yacht. Cost me an absolute fortune. I don't mind—you're only 80 once,' Stewart told AARP in an interview published on Thursday, May 22.
The 'Maggie May' hitmaker, who has been married to wife Penny Lancaster since 2007, said he took his whole crew on the trip.
'I've got eight kids and five grandchildren, plus various boyfriends and husbands, so there were 15 of us,' he noted. 'We had three chefs. The boat was so big that I didn't even see some of it.'
The Grammy winner also recounted the heartwarming way his family paid tribute to him one evening.
'We dressed up every night, with a different theme,' he explained. 'One night, they all dressed up as Rod Stewart and didn't tell me. My dear wife brought wigs for everybody and some of my old outfits. It was a wonderful time.'
The fun didn't stop on the high seas, as the rockstar also had a belated birthday celebration with his Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood.
The 77-year-old Rolling Stones member posted an Instagram carousel with photos and videos that showed Stewart wearing a 'Birthday Bhoy' pin as they enjoyed a night out with each other and their wives.
'
Really fun night celebrating Rod's 80th!' Woods captioned the post, shared in January.
While the 'The First Cut is the Deepest' vocalist has gotten older, that hasn't slowed down Stewart's career, as he told the outlet he's still 'got so much more music to do.' He also continues performing live as he is on his One Last Time tour.
Stewart reflected on touring at his age, telling the publication, 'When I feel I might be sick enough to cancel a concert, that's when I go, 'Maybe I'm getting old.' Then a couple of days later, bang, I'm back at it again.'
He added, 'I enjoy doing concerts more than I did back then. Maybe I've come full circle to appreciate how lucky I've been.'

Essence Fest Takes Blame For Lauryn Hill's Delayed Set: 'Put Some Respect On Her Name'

After Lauryn Hill closed out the opening night of Essence Festival in the wee hours of Saturday morning, festival organizers shouldered blame for the delay. On Sunday, Essence shared a statement in defense of the 8x Grammy winner, accepting responsibility after she reportedly finished performing her set at almost 4am for a nearly empty Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The statement continued, 'She arrived on schedule, stepped on that stage, and delivered the kind of performance only a legend can. The delay? Not hers. We will take that. The moment? One for the books. The legacy? Still unmatched. Put some respect on her name. Keep the takes, but keep her out of them. All love and deep profound admiration for Ms. Lauryn Hill.' Despite being notorious for arriving late to her own performances over the years, Hill was apparently at the mercy of poor management. NASCAR legend and Bay Area rap pioneer reportedly linked by unexpected hobby

NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon and rap legend Mac Dre were in a Bay Area breakdance crew together as teenagers, according to local rapper Baby Bash. The 'Suga Suga' rapper, whose real name is Ronald Ray Bryant, claims that he attended Springstown Junior High School with Gordon and Mac Dre, in Vallejo, where the three men grew up. 'Here they are in the Springstown Jr High Yearbook together,' he posted to Instagram on Tuesday, July 1, along with a black and white photo of a yearbook page that includes Gordon on the second row and the 'Feelin' Myself' rapper, whose real name was Andrew Louis Hicks, in the bottom right corner. 'Odd couple right?? Lol but its Real Facts!!' Though there is not currently a Springstown Junior High in Vallejo, a Springstowne Middle School previously operated at 2833 Tennessee St. In 2011, the Vallejo City Unified School District restructured its schools, relocating Springstowne Middle School to the former Hogan High School campus at 850 Rosewood Ave. The school was subsequently renamed Hogan Middle School. The original Tennessee Street site is now occupied by Vallejo Charter School. It is unclear if Springstowne Middle School is the same institution that Bryant was referring to on Instagram, but the timeline and location suggest a possible connection. Bryant also noted in the comment section of his post that he was not in the photo because he was a grade above Hicks, who was a highly influential pioneer of the hyphy movement, and Gordon, who was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019. 'I got stories for days,' he added. Gordon retired from racing full-time in 2015, in part due to the physical toll the sport took on his body. Mac Dre died in 2004 after he was fatally shot by an unknown individual while traveling with his crew. The Chronicle has reached out to Gordon and Baby Bash for comment. Bryant first drew attention to Gordon and Mac Dre's unique connection in March 2024, sharing a composite image of the two men to Instagram overlaid with the text 'What do Mac Dre & Jeff Gordon have n common? (Besides both from Vallejo). They were both in a breakdancing group in the 8th grade called 'unique street dancers' facts.' While Gordon has yet to officially confirm Bryant's claim, he did speak about his hip-hop past in a recently resurfaced 2016 conversation Oakland native Sway Calloway on Eminem's SiriusXM hip-hop station, Shade 45. 'At school with my friends, yo, I was breakdancing and listening to hip-hop,' Gordon said during the interview in promotion of his autobiography, 'Jeff Gordon: His Dream, Drive & Destiny.' He also revealed that his breakdance name was Baby Smurf, noting that he even had a jacket with the name on it. 'I was like on the ground spinning … my back is old these days,' he said, pulling out a few moves with his arms while seated during the radio interview. Since retiring, Gordon has served as vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, continuing to work within the world of racing. He briefly returned to race in 2016 as a substitute for Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was suffering concussion symptoms.

Balenciaga slammed for selling iconic Puma sneakers that look like they ‘got run over by construction vehicle' for $685

Balenciaga is once again selling something that looks distressed and old for a dollar amount that your average person would most likely never want to spend. The designer label has teamed up with shoewear brand Puma to create a ratty-looking version of the beloved Speedcat sneaker. The iconic 1999 flat-sole sneaker — which was originally meant to be a Formula 1 racing shoe —normally retails for around $100. But once the brand slapped Balenciaga's name on the tongue and sides, peeled off the Puma label to make it look worn out and added some grunge to it — this collab version of the sneaker will set you back $685. These shoes look like they've seen better days. Jam Press/Balenciaga The branded pair comes in a variety of colors for bougie customers to choose from. The collaboration launched late last month, and it was revealed as part of Balenciaga's winter 2025 collection. The celebrity-loved brand is aiming to put a fresh spin on Puma's most popular shoe styles, according to WWD. @hypebeast posted a TikTok video showing off the shoes — and the commenters did not hold back with their opinions. 'did you find these at the thrift store?' joked one person. 'Another scam from balenciaga for rich people, love that!' someone else sarcastically wrote. 'note to self: never Collab with Balenciaga unless u want a shoe that got run over by every kind of construction vehicle,' quipped another commenter. Balenciaga has made a name for itself with its 'ratty' looking releases. Jam Press/Puma That last comment might have some truth to it, considering this isn't the first time Balenciaga has come out with designs that made the public scratch their heads. For this past Valentine's Day, the Spanish fashion house released a $595 tattered tee and a zip-up hoodie that had destroyed hems and distressed seams for $1,190. Even the collection's color options are bizarre: 'dirty white' or 'super faded washed black' As expected, people online had something to say. Another Instagram user called people 'crazy' for 'thinking this is luxury fashion wear.' 'Tax anyone who can afford this,' said one person. 'Giving Shein,' someone wrote. 'Some of these brands have just been trolling us. I swear,' someone else chimed in.=
