Those in glass houses do not pelt stones at others' homes: Shinde slams Raut over ‘ambulance scam'

Mumbai, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday hit back at Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut for linking him and his son Shrikant Shinde to an 'ambulance scam', saying those living in glass houses do not pelt stones at others' homes. Those in glass houses do not pelt stones at others' homes: Shinde slams Raut over 'ambulance scam'
Talking to reporters here, Shinde targeted the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena and said those stuck in the 'Mithi river silt scam', the ones who indulged in 'corruption' while building roads and the people involved in 'khichdi scam' were lecturing him.
The alleged scams referred to by Shinde concern works carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation , which the undivided Shiv Sena had controlled for over two decades before it split in 2022.
'Those who reside in glass houses do not throw stones at others' homes. We are clean. People of Mumbai have seen them and they have looted Mumbai for 25 years. It is unfortunate that they are levelling charges against us,' he said.
Raut on Friday accused the Maharashtra government of committing an 'ambulance scam' of ₹800 crore, claiming that the money involved was diverted to a foundation run by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde.
The contract to procure ambulances worth ₹800 crore was awarded to Sumeet Facilities Limited. Its actual cost was ₹100 crore, but the amount was inflated, Raut had claimed.
'This is the biggest scam in medical history. Amit Salunke of Summit Facilities is the financial backbone of the Shrikant Shinde Foundation. The money was diverted to the foundation. A team of Jharkhand came to Maharashtra and arrested Amit Salunke on Thursday in a liquor scam there. He is a very close aide of Eknath Shinde and Shrikant Shinde," Raut had claimed.
Whatever happened in Jharkhand will be probed by that government, Shinde said on Saturday.
Summit Salunke, vice chairman of Sumeet Group Enterprises, termed Raut's allegations baseless. He said neither Amit Salunke, his family, nor Sumeet Facilities Limited has any political links.
'The PIL against the '108' Ambulance project was rightly dismissed by the Bombay High Court, which upheld the fairness of the tender process,' Summit claimed.

Kamra questions privilege notice: ‘Can't be used as shield against embarrassment'

Mumbai: Asserting that his remarks on deputy CM Eknath Shinde didn't interfere with the functioning of the state legislature, standup comic Kunal Kamra has said the notice on the breach of privilege motion moved against him appears to be mala fide and motivated. A breach of privilege motion is not meant to shield legislature members from the embarrassment or discomfort caused by a citizen's legitimate exercise of his freedom of speech, regardless of what position they occupy in the executive, he said in his reply to the notice. He said Shinde can't be equated to or conflated with the entire Vidhan Sabha. Legislature officials said state law department authorities are in agreement and have cited various Supreme Court orders to say that a breach of privilege motion can sustain only if a person's act restricts a legislator from discharging his/her legislative duties. Officials said they had recommended against admitting the motion, but legislative council chairperson Ram Shinde eventually decided to do so and send it to the privileges committee to initiate proceedings. He also made jokes about political developments in Maharashtra in recent years, including party splits within Shiv Sena and NCP. "Shiv Sena first came out of BJP, then Shiv Sena came out of Shiv Sena. NCP came out of NCP, they gave nine buttons to one voter. .. Everyone got confused," Kamra had said. On July 18, the legislative council passed a motion allowing the privileges committee to submit its report on Kamra by the last date of the legislature's next session.

A hug, a photo, a signal? Raj & Uddhav meet again, this time at Matoshree on ex-CM's birthday

The meeting of the two leaders, estranged till recently, at the Thackeray abode comes in the backdrop of talks of a possible union between the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and the MNS for the upcoming local body polls. It was Uddhav's 65th birthday and Raj landed at the Thackeray residence Matoshree in Mumbai, his first visit of note since 2012 when he had called on his ailing uncle Bal Thackeray in his last days. Raj had also visited Matoshree to invite Uddhav and his family to his son Amit's wedding in 2019, but it was a brief visit. Mumbai: On Sunday, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray sprang a surprise on his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, as well as the public and politicians at large. Raj and Uddhav also held a victory rally earlier this month on 5 July to celebrate the Maharashtra government's rollback of two resolutions making Hindi the 'default' third language in government schools across the state. It was the first time the cousins had shared a stage politically after Raj broke away from the then undivided Shiv Sena in 2005. On Sunday, Raj was accompanied by party leader Bala Nandgaonkar. He presented Uddhav with a bouquet of flowers and hugged him, all while posing for the cameras. Party workers couldn't contain their excitement on seeing both Thackerays together again. Reacting to the birthday surprise, Uddhav told reporters, 'I am very, very happy and delighted.' Later, the two went inside and held a closed-door meeting for nearly 20 minutes. Raj also shared on X a picture of him and Uddhav posing in front of a portrait of Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena founder. 'This is a hopeful and happy day for all of us,' Shiv Sena UBT MLA Bhaskar Jadhav told the media following the meeting. He added that whether the union of parties will take place or not would be discussed in a serious setting, not informally. Since their victory rally earlier this month, Uddhav has on multiple occasions said the cousins have come together to stay together. But Raj has stayed away from commenting on the possible alliance so far. His move Sunday is thus seen as significant. Speaking to the media in Nagpur, CM Devendra Fadnavis said Sunday, 'This is a good thing that Raj Thackeray went to wish Uddhav Thackeray on his birthday. What is the politics in this? Even we have given him best wishes.' This is an updated version of the report` (Edited by Nida Fatima Siddiqui) Also Read: 5 reasons Thackeray cousins Raj, Uddhav may bury hatchet, rally behind 'Marathi manoos' plank
