Farah Khan shows renovated kitchen to cook Dilip, says she had issues with wooden cabinets: ‘Mujhe cockroach ki bahut problem thi'

Indian Express3 days ago
Farah Khan, who whips up unique dishes with celebrities on her YouTube cooking channel with her cook Dilip, recently renovated her kitchen. In the latest episode, she showed Dilip, who returned from his hometown, the new refurbished kitchen and also shared a 'mini flashback' with a kitchen specialist who helped her with the makeover.
'The old kitchen was done nicely by them. Now I am bored with the flat-panel kitchen. So, I need a swanky, five-star hotel kitchen,' shared Farah.
The new kitchen has stainless steel cabinets customised especially for her. 'That is very good because mujhe cockroach ki bahut problem hoti thi. (I had a major cockroach problem.) Wood me paani ghus ghus ke smell hota hai, it rots and is a smelly kitchen (Wood absorbs water, so it smells). So, jab se, stainless steel ka daala hai andar, it is hygienic to another level (Ever since I have opted for stainless steel cabinets, it is hygienic to another level),' added Farah.
During the episode, she chose blue, her 'favourite and lucky colour,' and wooden panels for the finish.
'Wooden finish gives a colonial look. Dilip ji ko specially panels chahiye hai na,' the specialist said.
Why are stainless steel cabinets preferred over wooden ones?
Chef Shipra Khanna agreed that wooden kitchen cabinets, especially over time, become highly porous and can trap moisture, food particles, and odours, which creates an 'ideal breeding ground for cockroaches'. She shared that the functionality of stainless steel extends beyond wooden ones. 'Unlike wood susceptible to termite damage, warping, and is high maintenance, stainless steel surfaces are non-porous, seamless, and far easier to sanitise,' Khanna told indianexpress.com.
According to her, this makes them far less inviting to pests and also prevents the buildup of lingering smells that can attract cockroaches and other insects. 'Transitioning to stainless steel counters and cabinetry not only improves hygiene but also significantly reduces pest infestations in the long run,' said Khanna.

Farah Khan asks Munawar Faruqui to compare his jail term and Bigg Boss; the latter says ‘You can't even…'

In a candid and emotional exchange on Farah Khan 's latest vlog, Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui opened up about his life experiences, comparing the challenges of his time in jail to the intense environment of Bigg Boss. When Farah asked him directly, 'Which was worse? Jail or Bigg Boss?', Munawar didn't hesitate to respond, 'You can't even compare. It's offensive to compare.' Farah, visibly moved, reminded Munawar not to take stress and acknowledged the gravity of what he's endured. Lightening the mood, she cheekily asked, 'Which had more irritating people?' to which Munawar quickly replied, 'Bigg Boss.' Recalling their first meeting, Farah revealed how impressed she was with Munawar's self-assurance even before the show began. 'I met him one month before Bigg Boss. He was shooting a video for Raj Kundra and told me, 'Ma'am dekhna, trophy jeet ke aunga.' He was very confident,' she shared. However, she admitted that midway through the show, she was concerned about his journey. 'I felt your game might end in the middle. You became the tragedy king,' she said. Munawar agreed but highlighted the importance of the full experience. Farah added, 'Yes, pre-climax mein hero ka down aana zaroori hai.' Talking about his fan following, Munawar reflected on the overwhelming love he continues to receive. 'Even if I go for namaz, I see the crowd and it makes me immensely happy,' he said. 'I've always been transparent about where I come from and people relate to that.' This conversation offered a rare glimpse into Munawar's vulnerability, resilience, and gratitude, with Farah's warmth bringing out his most honest self — a man shaped by hardship, but defined by hope.
