Police nab Tawau man for threatening neighbour with knife over car scratches
TAWAU: A dispute between neighbours in Taman Ria 3 here turned violent on Wednesday when a man, 44, brandished a knife after being confronted about scratches on a car. The suspect reportedly lost his temper when the victim confronted him over fresh markings found on his car, which was parked in front of the house. Tawau acting district police chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said the 8.27am incident occurred when the victim noticed scratch marks and scribbles on his vehicle. "He approached the suspect, whom he believed to be responsible for the damage. "However, instead of responding calmly, the suspect became aggressive," he said in a statement today. The situation escalated when the suspect pulled out a knife and pointed it at the victim while hurling verbal threats. Fearing for his safety, the victim lodged a report. Following the report, police arrested the suspect at 3.15pm the same day. Police also seized the knife believed to have been used in the incident. Checks found that the suspect has two prior drug-related criminal records from 2012 and 2025. Investigations are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for committing mischief.

Pakistani national arrested for DUI after Johor restaurant crash
JOHOR BAHRU: A 45-year-old Pakistani national was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his car into a restaurant on Jalan Riang Utama. The incident occurred yesterday evening, causing damage to parked motorcycles and another vehicle before the suspect fled. Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Raub Selamat confirmed that the man was driving a Perodua Kelisa when the accident happened. Traffic police later tracked him down along the Pasir Gudang Highway heading towards Perling. 'He crossed the road, climbed a fence and jumped off a two-metre wall, but was detained shortly after, injured and in a weakened state,' Raub said. The suspect initially ignored police orders before eventually stopping near kilometre 8. The man was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment, and a blood sample was collected for further investigation. Two IPT students fined for possessing pornographic content in Kota Bharu
KOTA BHARU: Three men, including two university students, were fined between RM3,000 and RM4,000 in the Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to possessing pornographic videos and images. The accused, Muhammad Al Azamuddin Al Fadzil, 22, and Mohamad Syahmi Firas Mohd Jurij, 27, were each fined RM4,000, while Mohd Hanafi Ibrahim, 47, was fined RM3,000. The charges were read separately before Magistrate Wan Mohd Izzat Wan Abdullah. The trio were found with pornographic content on their mobile phones at a house in Jalan Kemumin, Kampung Pulau Belacan, Panchor, at 1.15 am on June 18. They were charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. Deputy public prosecutors Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah and Nur Haziqah Hassan urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, citing the accused's immoral actions and breach of public norms. Defence lawyer Chong Yin Xin requested leniency, stating that her clients had repented. 'Mohd Hanafi has health issues and underwent brain surgery in 2016. He is supported by his sister, a PWD working in a restaurant. Muhammad Al Azamuddin is a first-year student, and Mohamad Syahmi Firas is in his final year.
