Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba was sent to UP ATS custody for interrogation in the religious conversion racket case.

Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba, who is accused of running a major religious conversion racket, was sent to the 7-day ATS police custody, officials said on Thursday.
His alleged girlfriend Neetu, also known as Nasreen who allegedly played a key role in the racket, was also sent to police custody by the NIA court.
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad will have the custody of both of them from July 10 to 16, during which the ATS will grill the duo and gather information about their wider gang network operation across the country.
The police will also take action against Changur Baba under the Gangster Act, which includes the seizure of his properties.
The Balrampur Police are cooperating with agencies in the arrest of named and other accused individuals
Earlier, the UP Police intensified their crackdown on the accused and demolished parts of his 70-room mansion in Balrampur. On Tuesday, the authorities brought down 20 rooms and a 40-foot-long hall. The operation resumed the next day. The administration has declared a 40-room section of the mansion illegal.
The UP ATS arrested Baba and his alleged girlfriend from a hotel in Lucknow. The duo was staying together in Room No. 102 of Star Rooms Hotel in Vikas Nagar of the city for the last 70 days. The police probe revealed that the room was initially booked on April 16 for four days using their Aadhaar cards; however, it later became a hub for continued conversion activities.
The investigation found that Neetu comes from a middle-class Sindhi family in Balrampur and studied only up to Class 7. In 2015, she went to Dubai with her husband, Naveen Ghanshyam Rohra. Reports say that during this trip, both of them converted to Islam — Neetu changed her name to Nasreen, and Naveen became Jamaluddin. Later, in 2021, Naveen's entire family also converted to Islam.
They also submitted an affidavit in the Utraula Civil Court in Balrampur, declaring Changur Baba as their spiritual leader.
Neetu soon became a close aide of Changur Baba and was reportedly involved in a network that focused on religious conversions. Investigators say she used to befriend poor Hindu families, especially young girls, by offering help and talking about supposed 'miracles' done by Changur Baba.
She would often share how her life changed after converting and promised money or medical help to attract people. Once they agreed, she would introduce them to Changur Baba and help with the conversion process.

HC reaffirms primacy of life & liberty in case of runaway couple accused of misrepresenting girl's age
The petitioner had alleged that respondent No. 4, in seeking protection after claiming to have married the petitioner's minor daughter, misrepresented her age as a major. The court dismissed a petition seeking action under Section 340 CrPC (giving false and fabricated evidence) against an individual accused of filing a false affidavit and forged documents in a 2017 protection petition. Gurugram: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reaffirmed the primacy of life and personal liberty as fundamental rights, dismissing a plea seeking action against a runaway couple accused of misrepresenting the girl's age in a protection plea. The decision, delivered by Justice Anoop Chitkara on 1 July, highlights the judiciary's stance on the sanctity of life and personal liberty as enshrined under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, even when allegations of misrepresentation are involved. The case saw the petitioner, the girl's father, seeking action under Section 340 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) against respondent No. 4, who married his daughter and approached the court for protection in the 2017 petition. The petitioner alleged that the respondent had filed a false affidavit and forged documents in his 2017 protection petition, claiming to have married 'A' (the petitioner's daughter) as a major, when she was, in fact, a minor at the time of the wedding. The protection petition had been filed by the couple, apprehending threats due to familial opposition to their union. During the proceedings, it emerged that an Aadhaar card had been submitted in the protection plea to demonstrate 'A' had attained majority. While acknowledging the petitioner's grievance regarding the alleged misrepresentation of age, the High Court observed that the core of the original protection petition was the apprehension of a threat to the lives of respondent No. 4 and 'A'. Justice Chitkara's order meticulously pointed out that the actual date of birth of 'A' was a matter of evidence, and that in many cases, especially those involving births outside hospitals, accurate record-keeping of birth dates can be challenging. The court also considered the possibility of incorrect legal advice often given to runaway couples, leading to such petitions. Crucially, the judgment emphasised that respondent No. 4 had sought protection for his life, a right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. The Court stated, 'Even if the petitioner had claimed some misrepresentation, still, the relief sought was so paramount, so foundational, and so sacrosanct that this Court does not deem it appropriate to proceed against such a person simply because he might have used some forged document for the marriage, which was not under challenge before this Court.' Underscoring the human instinct for self-preservation, Justice Chitkara remarked, 'Self-preservation is the most fundamental human instinct. People go to great lengths to save their own lives and those of their families, friends, associates, and even strangers. Safeguarding life is at the core of India's Constitution, and if such protection is denied, the foundation could collapse, and the core would implode.' Given the sacrosanct nature of the relief sought in the protection petition—to save a life—the High Court concluded that it was not appropriate to interfere and initiate proceedings under Section 340 CrPC. The petition was consequently dismissed, with all pending applications disposed of. The ruling reinforces the judiciary's commitment to upholding fundamental rights, particularly the right to life, as a cornerstone of the constitutional framework. INDORE: Vijay Nagar police busted a gang involved in large-scale loan fraud using forged salary slips of a reputed company and arrested two men in this connection on Saturday. What Might Save Kerala Nurse Nimisha Priya From Yemen Execution? Activist Reveals Only Hope
Nimisha Priya Execution: Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya's family offered $1 million to the victim's relatives in Yemen to save her from execution. With just three days left before the scheduled execution of Nimisha Priya, a Kerala nurse convicted of murdering a Yemeni national in 2017, her family offered $1 million as 'blood money' to the victim's relatives in a final bid to save her life. Babu John, an activist with the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, confirmed that negotiations are ongoing in Yemen's capital Sana'a, where family representative Samuel Jerome is leading the talks on behalf of Nimisha Priya's family. 'The status is that the power of attorney holder for Nimisha's family, Samuel Jerome, who is already in Yemen's Sana'a, is leading the negotiation from our side. It took many months to negotiate and we have proposed $1 million to save Nimisha Priya," Babu John said as per NDTV. He added, 'The Yemeni man's family has not said yes or no. Once the family says yes, we will mobilise the funds and give them to the family if they are ready to pardon Nimisha." Under Sharia law, which governs Yemen's legal system, a convicted person can be spared execution if the victim's family accepts blood money (called diyah) and agrees to grant a pardon. The law permits such pardons to be issued even minutes before the execution. 'That is the important thing. Apart from the money, within the Sharia law… we are requesting the family to pardon Nimisha for whatever she did or whatever she is accused of. If the family is ready to pardon with or without money… anyway we are ready to pay $1 million. That is the offer," Babu John told the outlet. Nimisha Priya In 2017, she attempted to sedate him with an injection to recover her documents and flee Yemen but Talal Abdo Mehdi died in the process. Nimisha Priya was arrested and sentenced to death by a Yemeni court. Her conviction was upheld by the Supreme Judicial Council in November 2023 and the country's president approved her execution date for July 16. 'Now the only hope is that the Yemeni man's family pardons Nimisha… India is a big power in this region and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a good name and a big reputation. If the Indian government asks the Houthi rebel government in Yemen, it will be done… The Yemeni person has died and we would like to help his family," Babu John said.
