Al-Sisi reviews transport, industry projects, urges drive to make Egypt global logistics hub
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry Kamel Al-Wazir, and Presidential Financial Advisor General Ahmed El-Shazly to review the progress of key transport and industrial development projects, according to a statement by the presidency. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting focused on advancing railway projects, particularly the Arish–Taba line and the Bir Al-Abd–Arish extension, which are designed to spur development in the Sinai Peninsula and create a logistics corridor linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. The discussions also included updates on the development and modernisation of major seaports, including Ras Sudr, Gargoub, Abu Qir, Greater Alexandria, New El-Mex, Ain Sokhna, Taba, and Damietta, recognising their central role in Egypt's national economic strategy. Progress on Cairo's fourth metro line and the high-speed electric rail network was also reviewed, as part of broader efforts to modernise Egypt's transport infrastructure and enhance connectivity across the country. The meeting further addressed plans to develop industrial zones in Upper Egypt, particularly in Wadi Al-Saririya and Al-Matahara in Minya, as well as northern Fayoum. These projects aim to stimulate industrial activity in underdeveloped regions and create employment opportunities, especially in labour-intensive sectors such as textiles and ready-made garments. President Al-Sisi stressed the importance of completing all projects according to schedule and directed continued work to establish integrated logistics corridors that seamlessly connect industrial zones to Egypt's upgraded ports. He underlined that these initiatives must be integrated with the country's modern network of roads, highways, and railways to strengthen Egypt's position as a global trade and logistics hub.

Al-Sisi, Macron discuss Gaza ceasefire efforts, France's planned recognition of Palestinian state
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss bilateral ties, efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, and France's forthcoming recognition of a Palestinian state, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the call reaffirmed the strength of Egypt-France relations and both leaders' commitment to build on the momentum from Macron's recent visit to Cairo—particularly in economic, trade, and investment cooperation. The discussion covered Egypt's ongoing mediation efforts to secure a Gaza ceasefire and facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees. Both leaders also underscored the urgent need to guarantee the adequate and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. President Macron expressed France's full support for Egypt's diplomatic efforts, while both leaders stressed the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy. Al-Sisi welcomed Macron's recent announcement of France's intention to formally recognise the State of Palestine during the upcoming high-level segment of the UN General Assembly in New York this September. He described the move as consistent with France's longstanding support for the two-state solution, which he affirmed remains the only viable path to lasting peace and stability in the region. The call also addressed Egypt's backing of a joint French-Saudi initiative to hold a high-level international conference on Palestinian peace efforts, scheduled to take place in New York later this month, the statement added.

Egypt Backs Saudi French Initiative for International Conference on Palestine
H-Tayea Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has officially announced Egypt's support for the joint French-Saudi initiative to hold a high-level international conference focused on achieving a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian cause. The conference is scheduled to take place in New York on July 28 and 29, 2025, under the auspices of the United Nations. During a phone call on Saturday with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Sisi expressed Egypt's strong backing of the upcoming initiative and welcomed France's recent announcement regarding its intention to formally recognize the State of Palestine during the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly in September. Sisi praised the decision, describing it as a step aligned with France's longstanding efforts to implement the two-state solution, which Egypt also views as the only viable path to ensuring peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis, and securing lasting peace and stability in the region. Presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the leaders also discussed Egypt's intensive mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees, and to ensure the adequate delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip. President Macron reiterated France's full support for Egypt's diplomatic efforts and affirmed the need for a comprehensive and just resolution to the Palestinian issue based on international law and UN resolutions. The France-Saudi Arabia conference, to be held later this month, aims to revive momentum toward a two-state solution and promote broader international recognition of Palestinian statehood. France has stated its intent to gather international partners around the initiative to build consensus for concrete action. President Macron confirmed in a recent letter to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that France will formally recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September 2025, and that it will mobilize international partners to support the Saudi-French roadmap. The Israeli government swiftly condemned the French announcement, calling it a reward for terrorism and a disgrace to France's record, in reference to the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
