'Slap in the face': Springbok Women game tickets cost just R20
Like their male counterparts, the female national rugby squad are playing several test matches around the country.
The shock revelation comes as many rugby fans have expressed their frustration at the exorbitant stadium prices for watching the Boks play on home ground.
The female Boks – who will star in the Women's Rugby World Cup next month – will take on Canada Women again this weekend at the Nelson Mandela Stadium. Their game comes hours before the Springboks play Italy at the same venue.
On social media, rugby fans have shared a comparison between the prices of Springboks and the Springbok Women's upcoming game ticket prices.
In several clips, fans posted screenshots of ticket prices to watch the women's team take on their New Zealand rivals, the Black Ferns, on 26 July and 2 August at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
While the lowest ticket price to watch the national squad is typically priced anywhere between R400 and R800, and with limited quantities, access to the female side's upcoming game is a mere R20.
TikToker @ironmaiden_999 posted: 'Not even R50. We are doing our women dirty'.
@itsenhlee agreed: 'The disrespect compared to the men'. @leilaniminnaar_ , who added: 'Compared to the prices of the men's games. This is a slap in the face if you ask me.'
Others claimed the women and men did not play on level fields for various reasons…

While the Boks women are undoubtedly not as popular as the Springboks, the latter's captain Siya Kolisi has repeatedly shown his love and support to them.
He said in an Instagram post: 'As you support the men's team, support the women too. Let's get stronger together behind our women's team'.

Javu Baloyi, spokesperson for the CGE, stated that the commission's monitoring role of international instruments, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Maputo protocols, is mandated by the CGE Act 39 of 1996, the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, and the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act (PEPUDA). 'The CGE believes that it is important that state parties intentionally commit to eliminating discriminatory practices against women at all levels of society,' he said. The commission stated that this case was a test of how effective these instruments are and how the courts consider them in the advancement of gender equality. The CGE has played a critical role in this matter and has further lobbied for support both nationally and internationally, said Baloyi. 'We noted and welcome the judgment as it confirms that a right to a fair trial was infringed. We believe that a fair trial would have vigorously reaffirmed that the regulations are a form of unfair discriminatory practice that violates the right to dignity, equality, and bodily integrity, among others,' said Baloyi. According to Baloyi, from this ruling, the court succinctly pointed out that the limitation of Semenya's rights is based not on existing law but rather on the regulations of a sporting body.. 'Sporting bodies must develop regulations that seek to promote inclusivity and not discriminate unfairly against any person based on their gender.' Baloyi said the CGE would be engaging Athletics South Africa (ASA), South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), and other stakeholders in ensuring Semenya's rights and that of athletes with DSD are allowed to participate in sport both locally and internationally are affirmed. The CGE will continue to heighten activism against the World Athletics regulations that are discriminatory, he added. 'The CGE will draw lessons from this case and continue to influence and determine how to tackle gender discourse at the national, regional, and international levels.'

No underestimating Italy this week, says Boks skipper Moerat

The Boks clinched a comfortable 42-24 win in the first Test at Loftus a week previously, but were unhappy with a number of facets of their game, one of them being the breakdown, which was dominated by the Italians. Despite a much changed Bok side being named for the second match, with just four survivors in the starting 15 from last week, Moerat claimed that the players coming in had seen enough and done enough prep in the week to be completely ready for the challenge. 'Their play at the breakdown definitely shocked us a bit and it was why we just couldn't get going, particularly when we were in their 22,' explained Moerat. 'It does help if you played them the previous week. But even as non-players we still get a bit of a feel of what they did and what their plans are. That can change this weekend. All teams have an identity. 'They pride themselves on their physicality, and their breakdown is really good. They disrupted us there, and that is one area we worked hard on this week. We're looking to counter that. We won't be underestimating them.' Heavy favourites Despite the Boks being heavy favourites, against a team that is weakened due to a number of their star and experienced players being left at home, Moerat echoed many of his fellow players and coaches when he urged caution against them. 'They are a quality makeup, and feature players from Zebre and Benetton who know each other well. So they are in sync with each other, they have quality players and several game-breakers,' said Moerat. 'Their set pieces and kicking game are big aspects of their approach. Their kicking game is really good, but we have an experienced back three playing for us.' Another poor aspect of the Boks game last week was at the lineout, and lock Moerat admitted that they were eager to improve drastically in that facet. 'The lineouts we lost were mainly down to our own standards. We are not going to change much, we just weren't happy with our standards last week and have worked on lifting that. It is one area that we have really looked at as it is something the Bok pack pride ourselves on,' said Moerat. Moerat also got a taste of what it is like to play in front of a passionate Gqeberha crowd when he featured for the Stormers in the URC in the city a few years ago and is looking forward to another great experience. 'We played against the Dragons here and it was amazing. You could see then that there are not many rugby matches played in Gqeberha and the people get really excited about and are very fond of rugby. There was a great vibe in that game and I am sure there will be again on Saturday,' he added.
