UAE welcomes international push for broader recognition of Palestine
In a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement late on Thursday, Sheikh Abdullah said he welcomed the intention of Malta, Canada, Australia, Andorra, Finland, Iceland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Portugal and San Marino to recognise Palestinian statehood.
'He affirmed that these positions represent historic steps that reflect growing international support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state,' the statement read.
He also emphasised that the growing number of nations saying they intend to recognise Palestine constitutes a 'positive momentum' towards advancing international efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.
'These efforts contribute to reviving the political process to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, strengthen peace and security in the region, and advance the aspirations of its people for development and prosperity,' the statement read.
It added that Sheikh Abdullah has called on the international community to take similar steps and recognise the state of Palestine.

In a statement on X, it said the speaker's stance is an 'encouragement of settler crimes, settlers' actions, and the confiscation of Palestinian lands, in clear contradiction with the declared US position regarding settlements and settlers' attacks'. Settlers have long harboured ambitions of emptying the occupied West Bank of its Palestinian population. For years, this aspiration was broadly understood, even among settlers themselves, as an unattainable fantasy. However, the near-total destruction of Gaza and the growing perception that the ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip has, at least semi-explicitly, become one of the war aims of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have emboldened settler groups to believe that such a scenario might now be possible. Ethnic cleansing in the occupied West Bank would, however, present far greater logistical and political challenges than in Gaza. Unlike Gaza, it features a more intertwined population of Palestinians and settlers. UAE rejects Sudanese army claims as 'PR stunt'
The UAE has rejected allegations made by the Sudanese army that it is supporting armed conflict in the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Emirates has been subject to a series of "baseless accusations" and "PR stunts". The UAE has repeatedly denied allegations of arming the RSF, which has fought a bloody war against the army. The country is now effectively split into two parts, with the army holding Port Sudan and Khartoum, and the RSF holding the south. In recent days, the Sudanese army-linked government accused the UAE of hiring Colombian mercenaries to be deployed in Darfur, in support of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The foreign ministry statement on Tuesday read: 'The UAE affirms that these baseless allegations, entirely devoid of evidence, are nothing more than feeble media stunts aimed at diverting attention from the Port Sudan Authority's direct responsibility for prolonging the civil war that has lasted for over two years and for obstructing all regional and international efforts to achieve peace in Sudan.' In May, the International Court of Justice heard a case brought by the Sudanese military that claimed the UAE was 'complicit in genocide'. The case was dismissed and no further action taken. A report of the UN Panel of Experts on Sudan, released in April, also presented no findings or evidence against the UAE. The UAE statement also called on 'the international community to intensify its efforts to support a civilian-led political process that is independent of either warring party's control'. 'The UAE emphasises that these claims are merely attempts to derail the peace process and evade the moral, legal, and humanitarian obligations to end the conflict and pave the way for a transitional process that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and development,' it added.
