Alain Faso: Burkina Faso rejects Ivory Coast's statement that activist died by suicide
Traoré was a prominent advocate of the military-led governments in Burkina Faso and other countries across the Sahel region.These juntas have strained relations with regional bloc Ecowas, which wants democratic rule to be restored in the Sahel.Many of Traoré's supporters allege that Ivory Coast, a Ecowas member, wanted to silence Traoré over his dissent against the bloc.The activist led a huge community online - on Facebook alone he had more than 400,000 followers.When Traoré was arrested in January, human rights groups and Traoré's supporters said the charges against him were politically motivated.In response to the activist's death, Burkinabé Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré called for "full light to be shed on this tragedy" and demanded the body be repatriated to Burkina Faso.He criticised the Ivorian authorities for announcing Traoré's death in a public statement on social media, and allegedly not contacting his family first."There is a great deal of contempt, a lack of respect and courtesy for the authorities and the people of Burkina Faso, and it is even more so for the family of the deceased who discovered such painful news on social media," the foreign minister said.He added that on Monday, he summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Ivorian Embassy in Burkina Faso in order to obtain verbal confirmation of Traoré's death.Ivory Coast's public prosecutor has said investigations into the "motives and circumstances" of Traoré's "suicide" were under way.Traoré had moved from Bukina Faso to Ivory Coast with his family in 2021. While there, he owned a restaurant.Beyond digital activism, Traoré organised aid for displaced civilians. Rights groups previously said Traoré was detained in "inhumane" conditions and accused the Ivorian authorities of violating international human rights norms.

Police investigate footage of naked man in mask walking Lytham streets at night
Police are investigating after footage emerged on social media of a naked man wearing a black mask and trainers walking down the street at night. The video, which has been shared widely online, is understood to have been filmed in Lytham, Lancashire. It shows the man wearing only the mask and a pair of black‑and‑white trainers as he walks along a row of residential homes. Lancashire Police said the incident took place at about 12.50am on 18 July in the area of Westby Street, Cleveland Road and Bannister Street, despite claims on Facebook it happened later in the month. A spokesman said: 'We are aware of a concerning video circulating on social media of a naked male wearing a face covering walking around Lytham in the early hours of the morning. 'This incident was not initially reported to police and has only been brought to our attention after it has been viewed on Facebook. 'Fylde Rural Task Force are currently conducting CCTV and house‑to‑house inquiries and would like to reassure you that we are taking this matter seriously.'

Child tortured to death by evil grandma after dad's feet amputated
James Alexander Hurley, known as "Alex" to loved ones, had been living with his paternal grandmother following the tragic death of his father. A tragic 12-year-old boy knew who plenty of tragedy in his short life was tortured to death by his own grandmother. James Alexander Hurley, known as "Alex" to loved ones, had been living with his paternal grandmother, Patricia Batts, and her husband, James Sasser, in Yellowstone, Montana, following the tragic death of his father, Tommy Tate. As reported by the Mirror, a devastating accident had left Tommy requiring multiple amputations, including both his feet. He died following complications from surgery in 2018 leaving he little boy was heartbroken. His mother, Alicia, who lived in Texas, had custody of Alex - however, it was decided it was best for the child to remain in Montana for the remainder of the school year. He'd settled in well at school and had made friends and he had a home with Batts and Sasser. On the surface, it had seemed like the right choice. However, by the summer of 2019, Alicia grew concerned about Alex, who would only communicate via text or Facebook messenger - never over the phone or FaceTime call. He also repeatedly told her he was too busy to speak. Alicia, worried, endeavoured to bring her son home to Texas to be with her, but was soon met with resistance from Batts, Crime Monthly reports. While Alicia tried in vain to contact her son, she had no idea that evil Batts had taken Alex out of school in September 2019, under the guise of homeschooling him. Alex was rarely seen by anyone else outside of the immediate household from this point on. Testimony later given by Batts and Sasser's daughter, Madison, sheds light on what life had been like for Alex behind closed doors. Madison, who was just a teenager at the time, was charged over her involvement in the devastating events, but was ultimately given probation in exchange for testifying against her parents. Addressing the court during the eventual shocking trial, attorney Elizabeth Montoya told of how Madison had witnessed her parents' torturous behaviour towards Alex, which included slapping, kicking and punching. Recounting how Madison has seen Batts and Sasser put Alex in "chokeholds and deprive him of love and attention", Ms Montoya added that this was an environment where "Alex was the enemy. Madison's parents were the generals, and the other kids in the household were soldiers". Alex's mum, Alicia, believes the sick couple were only motivated to keep her son in their care out of greed, as they'd been receiving social security benefits that should have gone to the little boy in the wake of his father's death. Alex died during the night on February 3, 2020, and when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found his body on the floor of the living room. He was bruised, with signs of malnourishment, but those in the household claimed not to know what had happened to him. In an attempt to paint her grandson as a problem child, Batts told investigators that Alex had been self-harming and hearing voices, having entered a downward spiral after his dad's death. It's believed she'd hoped this would explain away his grave injuries, but officers weren't fooled. An autopsy determined that Alex had died of blunt force trauma to the back of his head, while footage showing him being tortured was recovered from phones seized from family members. Batts pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide in May 2020. She also pleaded guilty to felony criminal child endangerment for failing to seek medical assistance for Alex after he was fatally injured, and to witness tampering by attempting to get family members to give false statements to investigators, as per NBC Montana. In August 2023, Batt was given a life sentence for killing Alex, and was also handed 10-year sentences for each of the other charges. District Judge John C. Brown stated at the time: 'This is a horrific case of child abuse. It was totally unnecessary, and it was done with malevolence." After she was sentenced, Batts issued just one simple statement: "I regret not being the grandmother Alex should have had." Meanwhile, in 2022, Sasser was sentenced to 100 years behind bars for his role in Alex's death. Sasser, who pleaded guilty to deliberate homicide, child endangerment, and tampering with a witness, acknowledged during his sentencing that he had failed to protect Alex.

Oasis fan dies at Wembley stadium show after plunging from top tier
Other shows at the 90,000 capacity stadium are going ahead as planned. An Oasis fan tragically plunged to his death at the band's sold-out concert in Wembley Stadium last night as witnesses described the "horrific" scene, The Mirror reports. The man, in his 40s, is believed to have been sat in the upper tier of the 90,000 capacity stadium when he fell. Emergency services rushed to the man but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The Met Police confirmed officers rushed to reports of an injured person at 10.19pm, towards the end of the band's reunion gig. Police added that officers at Wembley found the man with "injuries consistent with a fall". And the force has urged any witnesses and concertgoers with information about the tragedy to reach out to The Met. A horrified concertgoer took to Facebook to share their account of the tragic moment. They wrote: "Did anyone else see the guy drop from the upper tier last night." Another Oasis fan responded, saying they had a "panic attack" after they witnessed the tragic moment. They said: "I was block 502 row 32. I have never felt so sick in my life. I got to my seat and had a full blown panic attack which has never happened before. "I was shaking and crying. I was so scared to get down and have to go back up as it was such a high demand show. But with the state I was in, Wembley moved me to block 501 row 8. Still high up but no where near as steep. I was so grateful." Another concertgoer, in a lower tier, described seeing emergency crews rush to the spot where the fan hit concrete after the plunge. She wrote: "I was directly underneath in section 211. "At first glance I thought it was a coat falling from the above tier but then I looked and saw the bloke on the concrete. It was horrific to see." A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said: "Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. "Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. The Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. "Tonight's Oasis concert will go ahead as planned." The Mirror reports it has contacted both the Metropolitan police and reps for Oasis for comment.
