Harriers battle the heat and other runners on busy weekend
Temperatures nudged 30 degrees celsius when the senior women set off at 1.30pm and the men shortly after at 2.15pm. What is already a punishing course - nine miles with 3,000 feet of ascent - was made all the more challenging by the scorching sun as competitors made use of the mercifully cool flowing becks which criss-crossed the route to refill bottles and dunk caps.
The Horwich numbers were made up mostly of MV50s. James Titmuss (1hr 43mins 51secs), Dan Gilbert (1:47:24), David Milliken (1:47:54) and Marcus Taylor (2:03:58) combined to finish fifth team in their category.
Meanwhile, it was Adam MacDonald's first English Championship race and it was certainly a baptism of fire. Nevertheless, he acquitted himself admirably, ducking under two hours to stop the clock at 1:58:34.
Alison Mort was the sole female Harrier in attendance, completing the course in a great time of 2:30:09.
Earlier in the day, Louis Yates finished 18th in the Under-13s race in a time of 12:27. Meanwhile, Mark Titmuss (16th) and Harry Yates (17th) finished in tandem with the same time of 31:31 in the U17 race.
Richard O'Reilly surprised himself with first MV55 and seventh overall at the Blackpool 5k music run in a time of 19:25. Not realising his stellar result, O'Reilly left after the race and missed the prizegiving!
Honorary Yorkshireman and multi-discipline phenomenon, James Scott-Farrington, donned his Horwich vest for the Ilkley Half Marathon where his sprightly time of 1:10:37 netted him second place overall.
There was proof it does not always rain in East Lancashire as it was cracking the flags at the Towneley Park 10k in Burnley on Sunday.
V60 Adrian Bramham was fastest in his age category with a sprightly 38:59, while Chris Charnley was pleased to be back on the start line after a bad back sidelined him for a few weeks. He clocked 49:04 as he builds towards another Great North Run in the Autumn.
Rob Seddon was first finisher at Bolton Parkrun - his time of 19:10 was his fastest at the venue for a couple of years and three minutes quicker than his previous attendance in March. His father Mark ran 25:23 in his 49th parkrun as he closes in on the big 'five-0'.
Rob Jackosn returned to Peel Parkrun for the first time in six weeks. With temperatures pushing 25 degrees celsius at 9am, he was satisfied with his time of 18:43 - first in age category and overall age-grading, before dashing off to Wimbledon for an afternoon at the tennis. His uncle Steve Jackson suffered in the heat, as many did, coming home in 36:14.
Richard Pollitt was eighth finisher at Worsley Woods, stopping the clock at 19:19, while Tony Hesketh and Gordon Stone did battle at Worden Park, finishing in 30:32 and 31:02, respectively.

Liverpool have just left a massive clue that their star player is leaving the club. Adidas have finally returned to be the Reds' kit manufacturer after more than ten years away. Shop the LFC Store LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! LFC x adidas Shop the goalkeeper range today LFC x adidas Shop the new adidas range today! Notably, you will have seen a lot of the club's players missing from the kit launch. Out of the big stars the likes of Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Ibrahima Konate did not feature in the launch. Alisson Becker was also featured very sparsely in order to promote the goalkeeper kit. This is not a surprise. With the exception of Gakpo who is sponsored by Puma, the rest of the players are Nike athletes and therefore they will not have been able to participate in the kit launch. Virgil van Dijk who is also a Nike athlete, was a rare exception, he must have been given permission to appear in the advert given his status as a club captain. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range from 9am TODAY There's a strong rivalry between the two brands, which is why for example when Nike were doing kit launches someone like Mohamed Salah, who is a prominent adidas athlete did not feature in the promotional advertisements. But while the notable Nike and Puma absentees are to be expected there was a notable adidas exemptions in the promotional material. Darwin Nunez is an adidas athlete after switching over from Nike last season. In pre-season, he has been spotted wearing the latest adidas F50s, which suggests that he still remains an adidas athlete. Yet, he was nowhere to be seen in the promotional material for the new shirt, which is a surprise given the fact that he is a prominent and star player for the Reds.

Man Utd striker Hojlund available for £30m
Manchester United are prepared to sell striker Rasmus Hojlund for £30m. The Denmark striker scored twice against Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday. Immediately after the game he sought out waiting journalists to say his intention was to remain at United despite their ongoing interest in signing RB Leipzig's Slovenia forward Benjamin Sesko. However, the situation is not quite so straightforward. Newcastle are also keen on Sesko but are yet to strike a deal with RB Leipzig for the 22-year-old. United are waiting to decide their next move and there have been reports that the player would prefer to switch to Old Trafford. United sources are adamant they could do a deal before selling players. But it is accepted that there would have to be exits to ensure they remain compliant with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules. And, if Sesko arrived, Hojlund would be marginalised. If Hojlund was sold for £30m, it would effectively be a loss for United given the forward's 'book value' is £43m as he is two years into the five-year contract he signed. United have spent almost £130m this summer on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Latest Manchester United news, analysis and fan views Get Man Utd news notifications
