Haj preparations finalised for Oman's 14,000 pilgrims
The figures were released at a press conference on the 2025 haj season held on Tuesday.

Allocation across governorates was based on population density of residents aged 18 and above. Muscat received the highest share at 24%, followed by North Batinah with 19%, while Musandam received less than 1%.
According to H E Rashdi, eligibility was determined through an electronic registration system using mathematical models grounded in sharia and jurisprudential principles. The process also took into account social and ethical criteria.
Of the total, 11,780 pilgrims (84%) are undertaking haj as an obligatory religious duty. The remaining are voluntary pilgrims – individuals performing haj on behalf of the deceased, the incapacitated or terminally ill patients. Thirty-nine per cent pilgrims are in the 30-45 age group, followed by those aged 45-60. Pilgrims aged over 60 account for 16%, while 5% are aged between 18 and 30.
Travel preferences showed 63% pilgrims chose to travel by air, while 37% opted for land transport. The average cost by land is RO1,417, compared to RO2,063 by air.
Several new initiatives have been introduced by Oman Haj Mission this year. Beit al Rabat Endowments Initiative is providing support worth more than RO150,000 to over 150 pilgrims from social security categories.
To assist the elderly and disabled pilgrims, vehicles have been introduced for use during the Tawaf and Sa'i rituals, benefiting approximately 450 individuals. Electronic bracelets have also been issued to the elderly and medically vulnerable pilgrims to enhance tracking and safety.

First Omani Rutab Festival to celebrate culture, farming and tourism
Wadi al Maawil – South Batinah will host the inaugural Omani Rutab Festival on July 17 and 18 in a celebration of agriculture, culture and tourism. The event will be held at the Hujrat al Sheikh Tourist Walkway in Wadi al Maawil, a location known for its scenic heritage and high visitor turnout. The two-day festival will highlight the governorate's date farming traditions, especially its prized varieties of rutab – half-ripened dates that hold culinary and cultural importance in Oman. Farmers, artisans and families from across the governorate are expected to participate, showcasing products and engaging visitors with local customs. 'This festival reflects our commitment to empowering local communities – especially artisan families – by giving them a platform to showcase their skills and products,' an official from South Batinah Governor's Office told Muscat Daily. 'It will offer visitors an authentic and immersive experience that blends agriculture, culture and ecotourism.' Running from 5pm to 11pm each evening, the festival will feature stalls selling date-based products, palm-derived handicrafts, organic items and heritage goods. Timed to avoid peak summer heat, the evening hours are designed to create a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere amid palm groves and heritage landmarks, the official added. Wilayats across South Batinah will present their finest rutab harvests, offering visitors opportunities to taste, buy and learn about the significance of dates in Omani life. The venue, Hujrat al Sheikh Walkway, connects three heritage sites – Hujrat al Sheikh Quarter, Al Safalah Castle and Bait al Ghasham Museum – and provides access to green oases, historical homes and Al Washhihi Falaj, drawing over 15,000 visitors weekly from Oman and neighbouring countries. Built at a cost exceeding RO80,000, the 1,500m walkway was developed in collaboration with public and private stakeholders. Designed with a traditional Omani look, it includes restored historic walls, heritage-style entrances, and a newly added 200m elevated stretch offering views of surrounding farms, towers and houses. Recent upgrades have added shaded seating, signage and visitor facilities, making it a key site for culture and eco-tourism. Officials hope the event will become an annual tradition, expanding its reach and appeal in future editions. 'This is more than a festival,' the official said. 'It's a movement to celebrate who we are – our roots, our land and our shared future.'

Omani pilgrims lauds flawless Haj
Pilgrims from Oman will return on Thursday after the successful completion of the final rituals of Haj 1446, according to the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. Before leaving the holy land, the pilgrims would do another 'Tawaf ' around the Holy Kaaba and hold special prayers for the suffering Palestinians. Tawaf is the ritual of circumambulation of Mecca, in which the pilgrims offer prayers to the Almighty. Pilgrims will be able to complete it according to the dates of their return home. This year, Oman sent 14,000 pilgrims to the holy city comprising 13,530 Omanis and 470 expats. "Our pilgrims who used the ministry portal for the same, will return in batches from Thursday after the final rituals," said a spokesperson from the ministry. He further said that the beautiful moments of love and brotherhood that several millions of believers from different parts of the world spent in the holy land for six days, regardless of their nationality or language, are an example to the world. 'This is one of the largest coordinated people-movements on Earth. Pilgrims were able to fulfil their rites in peace and without crowding — on their own schedule," he said. Saudi Arabia's mastery of crowd management is the result of decades of experience hosting the world's largest recurring religious gathering. Every Haj season builds on the last, with extensive simulations, audits, and post-event analysis feeding into a dynamic system of continuous improvement. The Kingdom's ability to harmonise massive movement with minimal disruption is not only a logistical achievement — it's a spiritual service. 'Everything felt so calm and organised,' said Fatima Ahmed, a first-time pilgrim. 'I was nervous before arriving in Saudi, but the way we were guided made it feel like the journey was being carried out for us.' First expatriate group from Oman arrives at holy land
Muscat: The first group of expatriates who left for the holy land of Mekkah for Hajj 2025 by air arrived in Madinah and was given a cordial welcome by people from different walks of life on Thursday. The group comprising 52 expat pilgrims who secured permission to perform Hajj from Oman's Ministry of Endowments and religious Affairs (MERA) through the Muscat Sunni Center left for the airport by bus from Ruwi near the Sultan Qaboos Mosque premises on Wednesday. The group proceeded on a Saudi Airlines flight to Madinah would resume their journey to Makkah on May 31 after staying in Medina for three days. Speaking to the Observer, Zakir Hussain Faizi, the Ameer of the Hajj group said that the group will return to Muscat from Jeddah on June 11 after completing the rituals of the holy Hajj. As many as 14,000 people are going to Hajj from Oman this year. Of these, 13,530 are native citizens and 470 are expatriates. Of these, 235 are expatriates of Arab origin. Out of the 235 who got a chance in the remaining non-Arab expatriate quota, made the group to Saudi. Since the new moon was sighted on Tuesday, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in Oman along with other Gulf countries on June 6. Prominent personalities from the socio-cultural scene in Oman participated in the pilgrimage. Prior to the pilgrimage, exclusive training for the selected pilgrims was given last week at the Manbaul Huda Madrasa in Ruwi. The five-day study class and camp, which was conducted from 8 pm to 10 pm, was attended by many people from different parts of Oman, both those going to Hajj and those not going to Hajj. Anwar Haji, Ghafoor Haji, Salim Corniche, Umar Wafi, Sulaimankutty, PAV Abubakar Haji, Rafeeq Sreekantapuram and Shuhaib Pappinissery, N Muhammadali Faizi, Doctor Muhammad Ali from Al Abeer Hospital and Akhil Rahman, along with Shajudeen Basheer B Muhammad Panniyur were also present at the flag off ceremony.
