WNBA player stuns fans with comment on teammate's body
Among those up-and-coming stars is rookie Kaitlyn Chen, who is fresh off winning a national title at UConn and played her way back into the WNBA after initially being waived.
The Valkyries drafted her 30th overall in the third round, but waived her in May. However, her strong play in a 3x3 league led to a contract with the team and turned her into a key rotation piece.
All the time she's getting is at least one testament to her hard work. Another could be the shape she's in, which attracted praise and attention from her own teammate, Kate Martin.
The Valkyries posted a video of Chen arriving before a contest against the Indiana Fever earlier this week and Martin sounded off in the comments.
'Your quads go so hard @kaitlyn.chen,' Martin wrote underneath the post.
Chen appeared to jokingly fight the praise in response, saying, '@katemartin how do you dislike a comment'.
Chen played a role in Golden State's victory over the Fever - shooting 2-of-3 and logging five points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals in 14 minutes of action.
Martin did a decent job for herself as well, dropping five points and two rebounds in 19 minutes as she was able to beat her fellow former Iowa Hawkeye guard Caitlin Clark in a 80-61 victory earlier in the week.
The Valkyries are the surprise of the league this year. While many projected they'd struggle in their first season, the Valkyries are in line for a playoff spot.
At the time of publishing, Golden State is sitting sixth in the WNBA's standings and fourth in the Western Conference standings.

Lions DE Levi Onwuzurike to miss start of season
July 18 - The Detroit Lions placed defensive end Levi Onwuzurike on the reserve/physically unable to perform list on Thursday. The move to the PUP list means Onwuzurike will miss at least the first four games of the 2025 season. The Lions didn't divulge the nature of Onwuzurike's injury. Onwuzurike, 27, started 10 of 16 games played last season and had 28 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He has 3.5 sacks in 42 games with Detroit since joining the club in 2021. He missed the 2022 season with a major back injury. The Lions also placed longtime starting left tackle Taylor Decker on the active/physically unable to perform list. Decker has started all 126 games played for the team since joining the franchise in 2016. Again, Detroit didn't detail specifics about Decker's injury. Detroit also placed cornerback Khalil Dorsey, guard Miles Frazier, standout defensive tackle Alim McNeill, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo on the same list. McNeill and Wingo each sustained season-ending knee injuries in 2024 with McNeill starting a four-year, $97 million extension this season. Travis Kelce and brother Jason make reluctant decision on future of New Heights podcast
Travis Kelce and brother Jason have announced there will be no new episodes of their smash-hit podcast 'New Heights' for the foreseeable future. Jason may be retired from the NFL but his younger brother is still active and about to start training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, the brothers will not be releasing new episodes of the show - which has 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube - for quite some time. In fact, a specific return date is yet to be confirmed by the duo as they prepare to turn their microphones off after next week's episode, which will be released on July 23. There are some pre-recorded interviews with special guests to come but there will be nothing new from the famous brothers. 'We have come to the end of the road,' Jason announced during this week's show. 'Travis is going to training camp as you all know. Whenever training camp starts, we take a hiatus from the pod, because it's nearly impossible to do a podcast while somebody's in training camp.' Travis and the Chiefs begin their annual training camp in St Joseph, Missouri on July 22 and finish on August 13. They also have three pre-season games in the schedule against the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears. Travis' break from the podcast aligns with his recent comments that his full focus has been back on football this offseason. It came after he admitted he was too distracted by commitments away from the sport last year, which coincided with a disappointing season personally - despite the Chiefs still making it to the Super Bowl. Kelce, who turns 36 in October, had been a major part of the Chiefs offense for a number of years and was the man quarterback Patrick Mahomes would often turn to at crucial moments. His performance that night and regular season form led many to suggest Kelce's time in the NFL was up. But he quickly ended any talk of retirement by confirming he would return to Arrowhead Stadium for the 13th year of his illustrious career. This offseason has been much more low-key for both Kelce and girlfriend Taylor Swift, with the A-list couple only making a handful of significant public appearances while largely trying to keep out of the spotlight. WNBA has failed to meet players' priorities in CBA talks, union says
INDIANAPOLIS, July 17 (Reuters) - The Women's National Basketball Players Association and the WNBA appeared no closer to finding common ground on a labor agreement on Thursday, as negotiations continued amid fears over a potential work stoppage. The two sides, including more than 40 players, met on Thursday ahead of the All-Star Game this weekend in Indianapolis amid reports of serious discord between players and the league in their labor negotiations. "The WNBA's response to our proposals fails to address the priorities we've voiced from the day we opted out," the WNBPA said in a statement. The union called for "a transformational CBA (collective bargaining agreement) that delivers our rightful share of the business that we've built, improves working conditions, and ensures the success we create lifts both today's players and the generations that follow." The WNBA did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The current CBA was hailed as a landmark moment for women's sports in 2020, when the league and players reached their agreement, with increased pay, improved travel and a host of new maternity benefits. But rapid growth in the WNBA has transformed the league, with an 11-year, $2.2 billion media rights deal kicking in with the 2026 season, and players opted to ditch the deal before it was set to expire in 2027. A work stoppage could be catastrophic for the league, which is set to debut two new teams in Portland and Toronto next year, and it said last month three more teams would debut in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia in 2028, 2029 and 2030, respectively. "We've told the league and teams exactly why their proposal falls so short," the union said. "This business is booming - media rights, ratings, revenue, team valuations, expansion fees, attendance, and ticket sales - are all up in historic fashion." The WNBA has enjoyed tremendous momentum with surging TV viewership and attendance, as last year's playoffs generated the best ratings in 25 years, and a host of young stars, including the Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark, have brought in new fans. This weekend's All-Star Game festivities in Indianapolis were expected to draw unprecedented interest, and banners featuring the top-flight league's star players were plastered across the city's bustling downtown. "Short-changing the working women who make this business possible stalls growth," the WNBPA said, reiterating its commitment to return to negotiations.
