South Africa: Police Chase New Lead For Missing Joslin Smith Sold By Mother | Firstpost Africa| N18G South Africa's police continue to search for missing girl Joslin Smith, whose mother was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year for kidnapping and trafficking her daughter. ‘Drone scare': Noida-based woman pleads withmob as she's beaten over theft charge in Bareilly

Bareilly: A 22-year-old Noida-based woman, who was on a visit to her boyfriend's house in Bareilly and seen talking on phone on the terrace in the middle of night, was tied to a pole and mercilessly thrashed by local residents who had mistaken her to be a "drone thief" -- someone presumed to use an unmanned aerial vehicle to recce an area before targeting houses for burglary or arson. The traumatised woman was later admitted to hospital with bruises and cuts, police said. Saturday morning's incident in Bareilly's Quila comes just hours after a 50-year-old mentally-ill man, believed to be a beggar, was lynched under similar suspicion in the district's Bhojipura area. SP (city) Manush Pareek said, "The woman -- originally from Nepal and currently living in Noida -- came here on the invitation of a local resident, Vinay Gangwar. Around 1:30am, she was talking on the phone on the roof of a single-storey unit when locals raised the alarm of a drone thief. In panic, she jumped off the roof, injuring her leg... A case was filed under sections 191-2 (rioting), 115-2 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 127-2 (wrongful confinement) of BNS, and four people have been arrested so far. " In a disturbing video later circulated online, the woman -- surrounded by some men -- is purportedly seen crying and pleading before them to let her go. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Resmed AirSense 11 with flat 20% off ResMed Buy Now Undo She could be heard saying that "she is from Nepal, works in Noida and has done nothing wrong". The traumatised woman also repeatedly begs the men to call police instead of manhandling her. The men could be seen dragging her by the hair. Taking cognisance of the video, Bareilly SSP, Anurag Arya, ordered an FIR against four men. Earlier on Friday night, residents of Udarnpur village in Bareilly's Hafizganj area caught a young man who was on his way to his in-laws' place, accusing him of being a thief. He was tied to a pole and thrashed, and then handed over to cops. An FIR was subsequently registered against seven named accused of which, five were arrested, police said. There has been rising paranoia around "drone-aided thefts" in several parts of UP. Villagers have been conducting night patrols armed with sticks, torches and even airguns in response to low-flying drone sightings. Many innocent people, mostly outsiders, have been targeted lately due to such rumours. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
