Pamplona holds opening bull run during Spain's San Fermin festival

Thousands of daredevils ran, skidded and tumbled out of the way of six charging bulls at the opening run of the San Fermin festival on Monday.
It was the first of nine morning runs during the famous celebrations held in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona.

The bulls pounded along the twisting cobblestone streets after being led by six steers. Up to 4,000 runners take part in each bull run, which takes place over 846 meters (2,775 feet) and can last three to four minutes.
Most runners wear the traditional garb of white trousers and shirt with a red sash and neckerchief. The expert Spanish runners try to sprint just in front of the bull's horns for a few death-defying seconds while egging the animal on with a rolled newspaper.

Thousands of spectators watch from balconies and wooden barricades along the course. Millions more follow the visceral spectacle on live television.
While gorings are not rare, many more people are bruised and injured in falls and pileups with each other. Medics rush in to treat the injured and take the seriously hurt to a hospital.

Unofficial records say at least 15 people have died in the bull runs over the past century. The deadliest day on record was July 13 1980, when four runners were killed by two bulls. The last death was in 2009.
The rest of each day is for eating, drinking, dancing and cultural entertainment, including bull fights where the animals that run in the morning are slain in the bull ring by professional matadors each afternoon.
The festival was made internationally famous by Ernest Hemingway's classic 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises about American bohemians wasting away in Europe.

Brit reveals how to find the ‘world's cheapest pint' while in Spain for just 43p

A BRIT claims to have found the 'world's cheapest pint' - which costs less than a bar of chocolate. Costing just 43p, Louis Grier, who lives in Benidorm, Spain, believes it is the cheapest pint on the globe. 3 3 The 32-year-old revealed how to find a pint of Estrella Damm for just 50 cents (around 43p). The spot called 4 JKS - also known as 4 JAKS - only opened back in Spain in June and regularly gives away free drinks to punters. In a TikTok, Louis said that he came up with the idea himself, along with the bar's owners - Brett and Andrea. The offering is all inspired by the stock exchange. Also in the video, owner Brett explained to viewers that despite the low price tag, it isn't actually a "cheap beer" nor does it come from 'expired' barrels. Instead, Brett made a deal with the beer brand for a four-day-a-week promotion when the cheap 43p pint is served. Louis added that the pint has already become "a local legend" and that he has even popped behind the bar to serve the tipple himself. "People are coming from everywhere to meet up and try it with me," he told What's The Jam. "They're calling it the 'Fanatic Pint'. It's the cheapest in Spain, maybe even the world." And since launching, many travellers reportedly "queue for the opportunity" to get themselves a pint from Louis, who dubs himself as a "Benidorm fanatic". I nabbed a bargain Benidorm penthouse suite with stunning views for just £17-a-head - but it came with a catch Louis stated: "It's not just about the pint; it's about the people, the laughter, and keeping Benidorm fun and affordable. The owners of the bar, Brett and Andrea, continued: "It's about bringing people together and giving people in Benidorm what they want. "We're not pursuing five-star reviews. We are here for good times, reasonable prices, and a bit of madness. "That is what Benidorm is all about." Benidorm is known for usually being a cheap destination - with another youngster, who moved to the popular destination from the UK, also claiming meals "don't break the bank". And another couple recently shared how they left the UK to live in a £2.5k caravan in Benidorm. 3

Ugarte goes public with British influencer & Mbappe's ex after months of rumours

MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Manuel Ugarte has revealed his relationship with British influencer Georgia May Heath. Ugarte, 24, confirmed months of public speculation when he posted a snap of the holidaying duo to his social media. 6 6 6 He tagged May Heath alongside a heart emoji in the caption of an image of the pair enjoying their time on a yacht while holidaying in Spain. May Heath is a fashion and beauty influencer, boasting almost 230,000 Instagram followers and over 50,000 followers on TikTok. The 27-year-old was previously involved with French superstar Kylian Mbappe. The pair were seen having dinner together in Greece in 2021, and she was reported to be holidaying with the now-Real Madrid man as recently as January 2024. But rumours began swirling in April that the influencer - who splits her time between the UK and Australia - had moved on to the Frenchman's ex-PSG team-mate Ugarte. Eagle-eyed fans had previously noticed that the background to some of May Heath's photos resembled those seen in Ugarte's snaps from home. Those Instagram sleuths seem to have been proven right with Ugarte's announcement. There appears to be no bad blood between Ugarte and his ex-team-mate, with Mbappe's account liking the couple's post on Instagram. 6 6 Manchester United fans will hope the relationship will help the Uruguayan move on from a lacklustre season. Ugarte arrived from PSG last summer for a fee of around £43m. His arrival did not provide the impact that fans had hoped for, however, with Ruben Amorim's men slumping to a 15th place finish in the Premier League. Manchester United might be poised to raid PSG once again for a midfield partner for Ugarte in Spanish all-rounder Fabian Ruiz. 6
