Horror fans left 'traumatized' by 'creepy' movie about vanishing children likened to The Shining
The Zach Cregger-directed film starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner tells the tale of a small community rocked by the mysterious disappearance of 17 children at exactly 2:17 AM.
A synopsis reads: 'When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.'
The terrifying trailer is narrated by one of the missing Maybrook children and begins with the speech: 'This is a true story which happened in my town. This one Wednesday is like a normal day for me, but today was different.'
As children are seen arriving at school, the camera pans to an empty class.
The speech continues: 'Every other class had all their kids but Mrs Gandy's class was totally empty. And do you know why?

'Because the night before, at 2.17am, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked down the stairs and into the dark and they never came back.'
Justine Gandy played by Julia Garner is seen looking horrified as Archer Graff, the father of one of the missing children (played by Josh Brolin) shouts: 'I don't understand it at all. Why her class, why only hers?'
As parents scream: 'Where are our children?' a tearful Gandy is banned from the school as the principal says: 'We have a lot of emotional parents here. I think it's best if you keep a distance from this place.'
In an apparent dream sequence, Gandy walks into a dark classroom with her students sat with their heads down - while one creepily raises their head sporting clown make-up.
Children are then seen running out of the school through smashed windows as Graff calls: 'Kathy, where are you?'
Gory scenes showing a woman stabbing herself in the face with a fork and a man being waterboarded with oil play before the narration concludes: 'This is where the story really starts.'
The trailer - helmed by Barbarian director Cregger - left fans delighted and terrified in equal measure.
Fans wrote: 'Giving Children of the corn vibes with a dark slasher tone. I'm sold.

Others pointed out a possible homage to Stephen King novel The Shining, with the children going missing at 2.17am, mirroring the hotel's most haunted space, Room 217.
Another fan compared the film's premise to the heartbreaking 2012 Sandy Hook massacre in which 20-year-old Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people. The victims were 20 children between six and seven years old, and 6 adult staff members.
The film also stars Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
It is set for release on August 8.

Hollywood silver fox bro club revealed as Nick Nolte, 84, Sean Penn, 64, and Josh Brolin, 57, dine in Malibu
Nick Nolte showed off his scruffy side when going out to an upscale dinner with some of his top Hollywood male friends. The 84-year-old actor had long gray hair that was combed back and a fuzzy beard. The 48 HRS actor was dressed casually in a light mint green shirt with one pocket that was not buttoned all the way up with no jacket. The Cape Fear star added black slacks and sneakers that appeared comfortable. The Hollywood icon looked healthy with a fresh Malibu tan. He was joined by former costars Josh Brolin, 57, and Sean Penn, 64, at high-end Japanese restaurant Nobu which is on the coast of Malibu and co-owned by Chef Nobuyuki 'Nobu' Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and businessman Meir Teper. Sean also sported gray hair as he wore an olive green shirt over a dark blue T-shirt with shiny charcoal gray cargo slacks. White sneakers made him look ready for a power walk. Brolin also was a silver fox with a deep summer tan as he sported a pale beige T-shirt and worn-in blue denim jeans, adding dark brown leather lace-up boots. Nick, Sean and Josh all live in the Malibu area. Nick and Sean worked on the 1997 Oliver Stone-directed movie U Turn with Jennifer Lopez so they have known each other around 30 years. A year later they co-starred in the 1998 movie The Thin Red Line with Jim Caviezel. They also appeared in the 2013 film Gangster Squad with Brolin. Nick and Josh were also seen in scenes together in 1997's Nightwatch. Nick has been in Los Angeles working on the set of his latest project, the Amazon Studios movie Crime 101. The Hollywood veteran was seen seated at a food court clad in a dark gray coat and pants with a button-up charcoal top. The Oscar-nominated actor looked dapper with his hair slicked back. The Omaha, Nebraska-born star was joined on set by his castmate Chris Hemsworth in Southern California, as they are part of an ensemble cast for the Bart Layton crime drama. Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mark Ruffalo and Monica Barbaro round out the principal cast of the movie. Nolte, who has appeared in comedies such as Tropic Thunder, Down and Out in Beverly Hills and 48 Hrs., was subsequently seen with a production assistant on the set. Corey Hawkins, Tate Donovan, Babak Tafti, Payman Maadi, Deborah Hedwall, Devon Bostick, Matthew Del Negro, Drew Powell and Paul Adelstein are also in the movie, Variety reported last month. The script, which was penned in part by Layton, is based on a novella from Don Winslow, the outlet reported. According to a logline, the plot is based on 'a series of high level jewelry thefts up and down the Pacific Coast Highway that have gone unsolved for years.' The perpetrator of the crimes acts under a protocol called Crime 101, the logline stated, which leaves authorities confused, thinking it is the work of South American cartels. 'Detective Lou Lubesnick's gut says it's the work of just one man,' the logline stated. 'Now the lone-wolf jewel thief is looking for that fabled final last score and Lou breaks all the rules of Crime 101.' Other actors in the motion picture, including Berry and Keoghan have been seen on location for the movie in recent weeks on location for the film in Southern California. Nolte spoke to Business Insider in November of 2022 about what keeps him compelled to remain playing new roles after decades of success in show business. 'I've always had something artistic outside of myself that I can turn to, so I'm still interested in the stories,' Nolte said. 'I don't really know what they are, as there are fewer and fewer of them these days. 'And I don't find the 80s particularly fun because you're falling apart in a way. But I've always said that I'll keep on going until I just can't go anymore.'

Horror blockbuster poster has sent fans crazy ahead of a huge new movie release
A strange film poster resembling a children's drawing has sent fans crazy, as speculation ramps up to new levels ahead of the release of Zach Creggar's new horror film Weapons Horror film fans have been going crazy after the release of one of the 'most interesting film posters of all time', sparking masses of speculation and hype around an upcoming blockbuster. There have been some incredible film posters over the years, whether it's the iconic Uma Thurman smoking a cigarette on the Pulp Fiction flyer or Marlon Brando in the background for The Godfather's striking promotion. A solid movie poster can make or break a film's promotion even lining walls in university halls for decades after its release. But one new film has caught the attention of cinephiles around the world for its distinctly unique take. With no floating head of the film's big star, no dramatic tagline or title, and no fancy graphics - you'd easily walk past this poster thinking it was something else entirely. Resembling a young children's drawing of their family, the new poster for Weapons shows an almost scrunched-up drawing of two parents labelled 'Mom' and 'Dad' and a young child in the middle labelled 'me'. While the poster seems completely innocent at first glance, when you learn about the film's plot, the poster takes on a much more sinister meaning. According to the trailer, the film follows the mysterious disappearance of a group of schoolchildren. At 2.17am all 17 children from Mrs Gandy's class woke up, stepped out onto the streets and walked away never to return. In the aftermath of their strange night-time walk their parents try to uncover the sinister truth behind their disappearance and bring them home for good. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. Warner Bros gives only a brief explanation of what audiences can expect, they said: "When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanishes on the same night and at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance." Little else is known about what will play in cinemas, with many of the film's details being shrouded in mystery. Barbarian director Zach Creggar created even more mystery as he told Entertainment Weekly: 'I didn't have an outline. I didn't know what it was about. It was just like, let the movie show itself to me. I want to watch the movie as I'm writing it.' The film is set to star Avengers Endgame 's Josh Brolin and Ozark's Julia Garner along with appearances from Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan. Just weeks away from its release on August 8, fans have been crazy with anticipation with the bizarre poster only adding to its mystery. Taking to Reddit one user posted: "This film has some of the best marketing I've seen in recent years. If it sucks I'll be disappointed," while another added: "Honestly. One of the most interesting horror posters I've seen in years".

Gaze took to his X account as he reflected on the past and shared his heartache, writing: "It's been 13 years since my band ended in the most unimaginable circumstances and it's still painful to think about. "Things could've been so different." He added: "I don't talk about it much, but I put everything into that band, and it should've lasted a lifetime. "I never really wronged anyone my whole life so it seemed like the ultimate punishment." His followers took to the comment section to share their support for the star. One wrote: "I'm really sorry you're still carrying that pain. Everything should have been different. But fate is a cruel joke. You didn't deserve it. I think a lot about what the band would be like now." He replied to the fan, saying: "Yeh. Hard to make sense of it all, even after all these years." This person posted: "I wish you a big success with your new project. Thanks for the music and memories." Another added: "I always say to any band I record if LP comes up in conversation, what that guy did was unspeakably evil, but I've got so much sympathy for everyone else in that (your) band - he ruined many other people's lives and careers instantly, and it's never spoken about." Ian Watkins handed 35-year jail sentence Vile paedophile Watkins was jailed in 2013 after a shocking trial for offences including the attempted rape of a baby. He changed his plea to guilty at the beginning of the trial and admitted to trying to rape a fan's baby and plotting to rape another infant. Watkins filmed himself committing sex acts on a baby boy the day after Lostprophets' final album Weapons was released. The fiend claimed at Cardiff Crown Court he could not remember the sickening attacks because he was a 'heavy user' of crystal meth at the time. A year after being placed behind bars, Watkins was refused the right to appeal against his 35-year sentence. Lord Justice Christopher Pitchford said his offences were of 'such shocking depravity' that the long sentence was called for. He said the original trial judge had correctly gauged the seriousness of his offending and that the term was not 'manifestly unjust'. In 2019, Watkins had a further 10 months added to his sentence after he was convicted of having a banned mobile phone in prison, which he used to communicate with scores of warped female fans from his cell. He will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of the prison term. In August 2023, Watkins was taken to hospital after he was taken hostage by three other lags, before being ''roughed up'' and stabbed. According to sources, the siege at HMP Wakefield only came to an end when a ''Tornado'' team of specially-trained riot officers hurled stun grenades into the cell, where Watkins was being held. One source said he had been stabbed in the neck and had been taken for life-saving treatment at Leeds General Infirmary.
