C8 Corvette ZR1 Flexes Its Highly Capable Track Muscles
Read the full story on The Auto Wire
There's no debating the C8 Corvette ZR1 is a modern American supercar. After all, the thing can hit 233 mph, blowing away other performance models from this country. But what's equally or perhaps even more impressive is the new ZR1 setting five lap records at American tracks.Chevrolet recently announced the accomplishment of the enviable feat accomplished by four different drivers. Each one was behind the wheel of a pre-production Corvette ZR1 with the optional ZTK Performance Package installed.
One of those tracks was Watkins Glen Long Course at Watkins Glen International in Schuyler County New York, often referred to as 'The Glen.' Bill Wise, Lead Performance Engineer for Chassis Controls, was behind the wheel, clocking an impressive 1:52.7.
Brian Wallace, Led Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, piloted the C8 ZR1 Corvette around Road America in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. He set a lap record at a scorching 2:08.6.
The American supercar also ran Road Atlanta, which is situated in Hall County, Georgia just north of Braselton, clocking a red hot lap record of 1:22.8. Chris Barber, Lead Development Engineer, was the driver.
Aaron Link, Global Vehicle Performance Manager, was able to set two lap records at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. One was the Full Course at 1:47.7. The second was for the Grand Course at 2:32.3.
This development reminds us of back in 2015 when the Dodge Viper ACR set lap records at 13 different racetracks. While Mopar fans will eagerly point out their super snake racked up more records, perhaps the Corvette ZR1's victory run isn't over yet? Either way, we love seeing American performance cars strut their stuff like this, especially on home turf.
The name of the game with the ZTK Performance Package is aero. The package includes that tall rear wing for increased downforce, front drive planes, hood gurney lip, plus underbody strakes. All pieces are made of carbon fiber. Plus, the suspension is tuned with stiffer springs and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R ZP tires are added.

South Korean duo win Dow Championship to deny Lexi Thompson a long-sought title
Associated Press MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — Somi Lee poured in an 8-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to team with fellow South Korean Jin Hee Im to win the Dow Championship on Sunday, denying Lexi Thompson her first LPGA title in six years. Thompson's partner, Megan Khang, had a chance to extend the playoff, but she missed a 5-foot birdie putt that was on the low side of the hole from the start. Thompson made an 8-foot birdie putt on the par-3 18th hole, with Khang still facing a 6-foot birdie attempt, as the American duo closed with a 10-under 60 in the fourballs format. They were the first to post at 20-under 260. Lee made a 10-foot birdie putt to tie for the lead on the 17th. Im and Lee missed birdie chances on the 18th in regulation for the win. The playoff switched to foursomes. Thompson hit the tee shot on the 18th to just 5 feet right of the cup. Im went nearer the pin but 8 feet long, setting up Lee for the winning putt. 'Bummer to miss the last one in the playoff to force another hole, but very happy how we played,' Khang said. Thompson has not won since the ShopRite LPGA Classic in 2019 and decided last summer to no longer play a full schedule. The Dow Championship was her eighth tournament this year. Im and Lee are in their second year on the LPGA Tour and this was their first title in America, though both were prolific winners on the Korea LPGA. Im has won six times on the KLPGA, while Lee has five KLPGA titles. 'I can't believe it,' Lee said after making her winning putt. Lindy Duncan and Miranda Wang had a 59 in the better-ball format and tied for third, two shots out of the playoff. They were joined by Manon De Roey and Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, who teamed up for a 64. Albane Valenzuela and Sarah Schmelzel, who had the 54-hole lead, closed with a 66 and failed to make birdie over the final seven holes. They finished fifth, three shots behind. Thompson did not indicate when she would play again. Next on the LPGA schedule is the Evian Championship in France, a major Thompson has skipped every year dating to 2019. The Dow Championship is the only official team event on the LPGA schedule. ___ AP golf:

Elon Musk calls Trump's spending bill 'utterly insane' as Senate gears up for a vote
Elon Musk is most definitely over. The Tesla CEO, who until recently was the face of the White House DOGE Office and Trump's efforts to cut government spending, had some more choice words for the president's signature spending bill on Saturday. "The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country! Utterly insane and destructive," Musk said on X. "It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future." Senate Republicans managed to push the bill past a key procedural hurdle over the weekend, allowing debate to begin. A final vote could come as early as Monday. Republicans have hoped to get a version of the bill to Trump's desk by the president's requested July 4 deadline. Some lawmakers, however, remain opposed to the bill. Democrats, meanwhile, have remained united in their opposition, and have found a surprise ally in Musk. In his criticisms on Sunday, Musk focused on provisions in the bill that would terminate Biden-era tax credits for renewable energy, such as solar, wind, and battery manufacturing. Tesla, Musk's automotive company, has an energy generation and storage business that earned $2.7 billion in revenue during Q1 2025. The company also uses batteries and solar cells in many of its products. In response to an X post from Michael Thomas — the founder of Cleanview, a company that tracks clean energy development — who said the bill would likely decrease energy capacity in the country, Musk said the bill would be "incredibly destructive" for the United States. In another post, Musk shared a poll about the bill and said it would be "political suicide" for the Republican Party. He also reposted several posts criticizing the bill, including one by Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican. "'BBB' = our credit rating if this bill becomes law," Massie wrote on X. Trump's mega bill will impact nearly every aspect of American life, including healthcare, student loans, taxes, Social Security, Medicaid, clean energy, defense, immigration, tipping, AI regulation, and more. Musk's X posts echo remarks he made earlier this month when his feud with Trump took a public turn. Musk called the bill a "disgusting abomination" on X before laying into Trump's personal life. At the time, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Business Insider said the situation was "an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted. The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again." The tech billionaire later apologized to Trump on X, saying he regretted "some" of his posts and that they "went too far."
