White Sox thank Cubs for Bobby Jenks tribute
The post White Sox thank Cubs for Bobby Jenks tribute appeared first on ClutchPoints. The MLB world is in mourning after learning of the death of former Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, who passed away on July 4 at the age of 44. Jenks, a two-time All-Star, rose to prominence with his clutch performance during the 2005 World Series. On Sunday, the White Sox's North Side neighbors paid tribute to the pitcher. The Chicago Cubs honored Jenks at Wrigley Field prior to their series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals, per CHGO White Sox on X. And the moment didn't go unnoticed by the White Sox as the team thanked the Cubs for the gesture on social media. White Sox closer Bobby Jenks celebrated by Chicago Jenks was a rookie with 39.1 big-league innings to his name when he was tasked with leading the White Sox's bullpen in the postseason. He had taken over for Dustin Hermanson as the team's closer toward the end of the season, earning six saves in his MLB debut. However, he rose to the occasion in the postseason, closing out four games in six appearances. He earned the save with a dominant outing in Game 1 of the World Series, striking out three batters in 1 1/3 innings. And after allowing two runs in Game 2, he bounced back. Jenks tossed three scoreless innings over the final two contests, earning the Series-clinching save in Game 4 as the White Sox defeated the Houston Astros for the championship. Jenks spent six seasons with Chicago, making two All-Star games and recording 173 saves for the team. He signed with the Boston Red Sox prior to the 2011 season but made only 19 appearances in an injury-plagued campaign. Numerous surgeries attempting to address bone spurs in his back eventually forced him to retire from baseball. Jenks passed away in Sintra, Portugal, after battling stomach cancer. The former closer was celebrated by his 2005 World Series teammates following news of his death. Jenks passed only weeks before the White Sox's planned to hold a 20th anniversary reunion for the championship team. Ozzie Guillen also released a statement after Jenks' death. Chicago's manager during the team's World Series run remembers his closer fondly. 'Everyone has a favorite story about Bobby, so the 2005 reunion will be a great opportunity to get together with all his teammates and coaches and relive some of our greatest memories of him,' Guillen said. Which three former El Paso Chihuahuas made the All-Star Game? None are with San Diego now
The All-Star Game rosters have been set for the July 15 showcase and three former Chihuahuas have earned spots. Interestingly, none are with the San Diego Padres, the only team El Paso has ever been affiliated with. The Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker, Seattle Mariners closer Andres Munoz and Washington Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore are the three former Chihuahuas on the All-Star roster. This list does not include Fernando Tatis, who had a brief rehab assignment with the Chihuahuas in April 2023. Brent Rooker, designated hitter/outfielder, Athletics Rooker was with the Chihahuas for the first half of the 2022 season after the Padres acquired him in a trade with Minnesota, hitting .272 over 228 at-bats in 61 games. He was traded to Kansas City that season, ending his tenure in El Paso. Before the 2023 season he was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics. This season he is batting .271 in 92 games for a team playing home games in Sacramento. Andres Munoz, right-handed pitcher, Seattle Mariners Munoz appeared in 19 games as a reliever for the Chihuahuas early in the 2019 season before being promoted to San Diego. He missed the 2020 season with Tommy John surgery, then was traded to Seattle. This season he is Seattle's closer. He has 21 saves, a 1.06 earned run average and a 3-1 record. MacKenzie Gore, left-handed pitcher, Washington Nationals Gore, a No. 3 overall pick in the 2017 draft, was one of the top prospects in the Padres organization when he was promoted to El Paso in 2021. He made six appearances that year with a 5.85 ERA, then began the 2022 season in El Paso before making the jump to the majors in April after one start with the Chihuahuas. He threw five shutout innings in that appearance. In 2022 he traded to the Washington Nationals as part of the blockbuster trade for Juan Soto. This year he has a 3.11 ERA as a starter with a 3-8 record. This article originally appeared on El Paso Times: Three former El Paso Chihuahuas are headed to the MLB All-Star Game

Royce Lewis, Christian Vazquez each drive in 3 runs as Twins beat Dodgers 10-7
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Royce Lewis and Christian Vazquez each drove in three runs as the Minnesota Twins beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-7 on Tuesday night. Lewis, a native of nearby Orange County, Calif., had a runs-scoring fielder's choice in the second inning, a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, and a run-scoring grounder in the seventh that brought in two more runs on pitcher Edgardo Henriquez's throwing error. Reliever Brock Stewart (2-1) pitched a scoreless fifth inning to earn the win. Andy Pages hit a three-run home run and Shohei Ohtani had a two-run shot for the Dodgers, who managed to end a six-game home losing streak Monday but have now dropped 11 of their past 14 overall since July 4. It is the first time Ohtani has hit a home run in four consecutive games. Dodgers All-Star right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up three runs — one earned — and five hits in five innings. Ben Casparius (7-4) was charged with three runs without recording an out in the sixth. The Twins took a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning with their second of three three-run innings as Lewis walked with the bases loaded, Harrison Bader had an RBI ground out and Vazquez delivered a run-scoring single. Hyeseong Kim brought the Dodgers to 6-5 with a two-run single in the sixth. The Twins responded with a three-run seventh when Lewis' comebacker scored Carlos Correa then brought in Ty France and Matt Walner when Henriquez threw past first base and into right field. France, from nearby West Covina, had an RBI double in the ninth. Key moment One night after losing left-handed reliever Tanner Scott to an elbow injury, the Dodgers saw Casparius depart with a right calf cramp immediately after he allowed Lewis' bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Casparius and Will Klein combined for six walks. Key stat The Twins' victory was only their third against the Dodgers since 2017, leaving them 3-12 against Los Angeles in the nine-year stretch. They are 3-13 all-time at Dodger Stadium, including postseason games. Up next Twins RHP Chris Paddack (3-9, 5.14 ERA) goes against Dodgers RHP Tyler Glasnow (1-1, 3.10) on Wednesday. ___ AP MLB:
