BSF personnel to get newly designed uniforms for better comfort and functionality
Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) [India] June 14 (ANI): In a significant move aimed at improving comfort and efficiency, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel will soon be donning newly designed uniforms with upgraded features tailored for India's diverse climate conditions.
Sharing the details, BSF (North) Deputy Inspector General Yogendra Singh Rathore said that the new uniform will see major changes in fabric composition, colour scheme, and overall design.
'There are a lot of changes, be it the texture or colour. As far as texture is concerned, it was 50-50 per cent in the old uniform -- 50 per cent cotton and 50 per cent polyester. The new uniform is 80 per cent cotton and 20 per cent polyester because it is hot in Rajasthan, and hot plus humid in the northeast. So, such a cotton-based uniform is very comfortable,' he said.
'The colour has also been changed. The current uniform is 50 per cent khaki, 45 per cent green and 5 per cent brown in colour. Other patterns have also been changed, the logo has been introduced, and changes have also been made to the rank we put up.'
Earlier, the Balnoi Battalion of the Indian Army, along with the BSF, conducted a ceremonial change of uniform on Sunday at the temple dedicated to Captain Satish Khera, commemorating his birth anniversary at the Khera Complex in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir.
Captain Satish Khera made the supreme sacrifice on October 7, 1965, during the Battle of OP Hill in the Indo-Pak War. This key operation in Jammu and Kashmir aimed to capture a critical enemy observation post.
Captain Khera led the charge with fearless leadership, turning the tide of battle through his courage and determination. His legacy lives on through the ceremonial observance at the Khera Complex, where soldiers gather each year to honour his memory and unmatched valour.
The uniform change ceremony reflects the deep respect and remembrance held by the forces and continues to uphold the highest traditions and ethos of the Indian Army.

Chennai Airport conducts mock drill to test emergency response
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a mock drill at Chennai International Airport on Saturday to assess emergency preparedness for a potential plane crash. The exercise followed the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. 'This mock exercise drill is a standard practice that airports undertake as part of their Airport Emergency Plan. Usually, we do it at the airport. This is the first time we are doing it outside, as we wanted to assess the preparedness of state authorities following what happened in Ahmedabad,' Airport Director of Airports Authority of India, Chennai International Airport, CV Deepak, told ANI. 'We will now hear from independent observers and fill the gaps accordingly... Approximately 300 people participated. Around 55 people participated as passengers onboard the aircraft,' he added. On June 12, a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. All 241 people on board, except one, were killed in the crash. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) Lab in New Delhi is currently working intensively to examine data retrieved from the black boxes of the flight. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Crash Protection Module (CPM) from the front black box was safely retrieved, and on June 25, 2025, the memory module was successfully accessed and its data downloaded at the AAIB Lab. Sources familiar with the process told ANI that an identical black box, referred to as a 'golden chassis,' was used to confirm whether data could be accurately recovered from the black boxes. One black box was recovered from the rooftop of a building at the crash site on June 13, and the other from the debris on June 16. The investigation is being led by AAIB officials and includes technical members from the Indian Air Force, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) from the United States, which is the official investigative agency of the country of the aircraft's design and manufacture. The Director General of AAIB is heading the probe. An aviation medicine expert and an Air Traffic Control officer have also been included in the investigation team. Sources confirmed that the NTSB team is currently stationed in Delhi and working closely with Indian authorities at the AAIB Lab. Officials from Boeing and GE are also present in the national capital to assist with the technical process. (ANI)

Himachal: Kangra airport conducts full-scale emergency mock drill to test disaster preparedness
Kangra (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): A full-scale emergency mock exercise was successfully conducted at Kangra Airport on Saturday. The objective of the exercise was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP) and to enhance coordination among various responding agencies, according to airport officials. According to the simulated scenario, a Delhi to Gaggal flight (VTABC, Q400 type) reported a starboard engine failure at 1515 hours and requested priority landing. The aircraft was carrying 71 persons onboard. During its approach to Runway 33, the aircraft declared a 'May Day' and crashed near the Manjhi River. Immediately after the report, ATC declared a full emergency and alerted all concerned agencies. Fire tenders, ambulances, medical teams, and the State Disaster Management team rushed to the crash site. Injured passengers were provided first aid and shifted to hospitals, while a few casualties were sent for DNA profiling for identification. The exercise was closely monitored by Airport Director Dhirendra Singh, SDM Ishant Jaswal, DySP Ankit Sharma, officers from the State Fire Department, local hospitals, and the disaster response team. Coordination and response from all departments were found to be timely and effective. The exercise aimed to enhance preparedness and ensure an efficient real-time response during actual emergencies. Uttarakhand: CM Dhami plants sapling along with his mother and son under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 28 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami planted a sapling along with his mother Bishna Devi on Saturday under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. Chief Minister's son Diwakar also planted a sapling on the occasion. This initiative aims to inspire every person to plant a tree in honour of their mother so that environmental protection can be made a mass movement through emotional attachment. During this, CM Dhami said, 'Mother is the first guru of life, and the environment gives us life. It is our duty to serve both mother and nature. This campaign also gives the message of responsibility towards the environment in society.' Furthermore, the CM appealed to the people of the state to plant a tree in memory of their mothers and take care of it themselves. Earlier, CM Dhami planted a Sita Ashoka sapling at the Chief Minister's residence on the occasion of World Environment Day as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. On this occasion, the Chief Minister called upon the state's people to participate in this holy work and serve nature while respecting their mother. This campaign is dedicated to maternal respect and environmental protection, encouraging every person to plant a tree in honour of their mother. Dhami also greeted people on World Environment Day and urged them to participate in the 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' initiative by planting at least one tree and protecting the environment. ' 'Conservation of nature and environment is both our cultural heritage and responsibility. Under the leadership and guidance of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has been started to promote environmental conservation,' Dhami said in a post on X. 'Let us all promote this campaign and plant a tree in the name of Mother and ensure our participation in environmental protection,' his post added.
