Public figures are remembering Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, a bystander who was fatally shot during Saturday's "No Kings" protest in Salt Lake City, and his contributions to the fashion industry.
State of play: The Samoa native was known for his "distinctive and vibrant culture-based designs," according to Vogue.
In an Instagram post, actor Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced the main character in "Moana," said she wore one of his designs for the world premiere of the film's sequel, which she called "the most significant event of my career," last year.
"Your artistry will never be forgotten; and neither will your peaceful protest," she said.
Between the lines: In 2019, Ah Loo competed in Season 17 of "Project Runway."
Democratic state Rep. Verona Mauga told KSL-TV that Ah Loo was the first Samoan to appear on the reality TV show.
"That was a big deal — to have someone of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander heritage be able to break into the fashion industry, and he's done amazing work for fabulous people," she said, per KSL-TV.

FC Barcelona honors Kobe Bryant with ‘Mamba Mentality'-inspired road uniforms

Kobe Bryant will always be remembered as a Lakers legend and one of basketball's all-time greats. But in February 2009 — in the middle of his 13th NBA season — Bryant appeared on the cover of ESPN the Magazine wearing another team's uniform and playing an entirely different sport. The cover shot showed Bryant in full FC Barcelona gear and performing some pretty fancy footwork with a soccer ball. In a video for ESPN the Magazine, Bryant explained that he was a longtime soccer fan who had become 'captivated' by superstar Ronaldinho, who played for Barca from 2003-2008. 'That's how I started following the team,' Bryant said, 'and from that point forward I just stuck with them.' Now, more than 16 years later, Barcelona players will be wearing Bryant-inspired uniforms. Revealed Tuesday by Nike and Barca, the team's 2025-26 away kits will feature a number of nods toward the late NBA legend and his famous Mamba Mentality. The colors are variations of the Lakers' purple and gold. A snakeskin pattern is featured on the shorts and portions of the jersey. Bryant's 'Kobe Sheath' logo appears prominently, including on the upper right section of the jersey where the Nike Swoosh would normally be placed. 'Born from a shared obsession with relentless self-improvement, the partnership brings the Kobe Sheath to professional football for the first time through a collection that captures the dedication and values central to Kobe's legacy and Barça's DNA,' Nike said in a press release. 'The collaboration celebrates Kobe's lifelong love for football and admiration for FC Barcelona's joyful style of play and philosophy. In return, Barça recognizes Kobe as a driving force in global sport who lived by the discipline and drive for greatness that defines the club.' Barcelona wasn't shy in promoting the new look on Instagram. 'Two icons, one shared story,' the team wrote in one post. 'A collaboration born from mutual admiration and the values that unite us: talent, commitment, and passion.' Barca added in another post: 'The Mamba Mentality is in us.'

Love Island JaNa Craig's BFF Gives Insight Into Her Shock Split From Kenny Rodriguez

It comes after JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez shared separate statements about their breakup, with JaNa calling the breakup reason "terrible, disgusting and disappointing." Love Island USA's JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez have gone their separate ways, and it's not looking like a civil breakup. The development comes as a friend of JaNa's, Charmane Smith, shared a warning to her Instagram Stories late Tuesday night, as reported by TMZ, where she warns other women to check their partner's phones, giving possible insight into why the pair broke up. "Never spare a man… Dog them out babygirl," she wrote just hours after JaNa posted her own statement on Instagram about the surprising breakup with her fellow Season 6 contestant. Charmane's post continued: "My advice for women in relationships: if you have access -- go thru [sic] your man's phone TODAY. Search keywords like 'I don't like black women, I thought I would get more money from this, I'm faking this relationship, going on the show would be for clout, I can't wait to be done w this so I can f--k hella b--ches.'" She ended the post with, "You'll thank me later," before switching her account to private. The savage post comes just hours after JaNa, 28, took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, July 29, to share a statement addressed to her followers. "Thank you for all your love & support. It means the world to me," she began. "As you know, Kenny and I are no longer together. Please know that I have seen all the breakup theories and none have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is." "Discovering that someone you loved isn't who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn't been genuine since day one has been truly devastating," JaNa continued. "Thank you for respecting my privacy and please know as a child of God, I will always be okay." Kenny also shared a statement on their breakup admitting that "past few days have been incredibly difficult." "I've been quietly sitting with a lot of emotions and doing my best to process everything privately," he wrote. "Breakups are never easy, especially in the public eye. Sometimes, despite how deeply you care for someone, you come to the hard truth that the relationship was not something that could last long-term." He concluded by saying: "I'll always be grateful for the time we shared and the memories we created. I release this chapter with no ill will, only a hope that JaNa's path forward brings her nothing but happiness." However, JaNa did not sit back and accept this statement from her ex, calling him out on her stories and giving him her own warning. She wrote: "stfu you manipulative liar. You are not taking accountability and telling people the type of person you really are is insane to me!!" She added: "My first statement was me being nice. Do not piss me off" Others have also come out in support of JaNa. Her sister Naja reshared JaNa's statement on her own Instagram and added that Kenny "fumbled the baddest he'll eva [sic] haveee on mamassss." The breakup happened after the pair were spotted at David Dobrik's birthday party on Saturday, July 26, which they attended together. Footage of the pair at the event has been shared online showing them looking happy before the shock split. Solve the daily Crossword

Tom Brady On Prioritizing Football During Gisele Bündchen Marriage

During the last few years of Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady's marriage, there was a lot of chatter about how Tom was splitting his time between football and family. In a 2018 docuseries about Tom's career, Gisele expressed disappointment that her then-husband opted to continue playing football beyond 2016 after previously saying he'd retire. For context, Tom and Gisele share two children, Vivian and Benjamin, who are now aged 15 and 12. He also has a 17-year-old son, Jack, from a previous relationship. 'When I met him in 2006, he said, 'Listen, I'm just gonna play for 10 more years, I'm gonna win one Super Bowl, and I'm gonna be happy,'' Gisele recalled. 'I told him last year [in 2016], 'I think this is great, what a great win. Now you've won two Super Bowls, it's the end of the tenth year.' And I was like, 'Woohoo, let's go! I'm ready!' But then he's like, 'No.'' 'Football, as far as I'm concerned, is his first love. I think it's his main love, really quite frankly,' she added, saying in a subsequent confessional: 'It's about priorities. What are the priorities?' At long last, the quarterback announced his retirement in February 2022, and Gisele was among those to publicly celebrate the milestone. Then, just 40 days later, he backtracked and revealed that he wasn't ready to give up football after all. Reports at the time claimed that Gisele 'wasn't thrilled' by Tom's unretirement, and in May 2022, the supermodel seemed to suggest as much during an interview with British Vogue, in which she said: 'I don't think relationships just happen; it's never the fairy tale people want to believe it is. His focus is on his career, mine is mostly on the kids.' So, when Tom and Gisele divorced in October 2022 — just a few weeks after his 23rd NFL season kicked off — it was widely speculated that his unrelenting focus on football was the catalyst for the split. For what it's worth, Gisele later denied this was the case, telling Vanity Fair in March 2023: 'I have always cheered for him, and I would continue forever. If there's one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it's him, believe me. I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true.' As we now know, Tom's 23rd season wound up being his last, as he officially retired (again) in February 2023. If you follow Tom on Instagram, you'll see he spends a lot of his time with his three kids. Although, he's also talked openly about his past failings as a dad, saying at an event in 2024: 'I've screwed up a lot as a parent.' After saying that being "a parent is probably the hardest job all of us have," Tom talked about wanting to be "dependable and consistent" for his children. Now, the 47-year-old has opened up about parenting again — this time, seemingly defending his decision to prioritize football while his kids were young. In the July 29 edition of his 199 newsletter, Tom pondered the balance between 'personal satisfaction and professional achievement,' writing: 'I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family. I chose to do it by playing football.' 'My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused—those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids,' he wrote. 'By prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.' Reminding readers that your children 'see what you do in every aspect of your life and how you do it,' Tom highlighted that 'reading bedtime stories and helping them with homework are not the only ways to be a great parent.' 'And neither is winning Super Bowls or MVP,' he added. 'Being a great football player didn't make me a great dad, but how I became a great player certainly had an impact—from showing up day in and day out, to doing whatever it took to get better, be successful, be a role model, and to provide.' He makes some valid I do have to wonder what Gisele would have to say about it all. LMK your thoughts in the comments!
