Italy vs Ireland referee: Who is Six Nations official Luke Pearce?
The Exeter-based whistler is long established as a top international official having overseen his 50th Test during last year's tournament, when he took charge of two fixtures during the course of the campaign.
The 36-year-old started his officiating journey in Devon at the age of 16, and was refereeing in the second tier Championship by the age of 21.
A promotion to the Premiership swiftly followed before a step-up to Test level in February 2013.
The depth in English refereeing has occasionally held Pearce back, though his highly communicative style and preference for pace are well liked by players.
He took charge of his first Premiership final in 2023, overseeing Saracens' win over Sale at Twickenham, before being one of four English referees at the World Cup later that autumn.
Pearce joins compatriots Matthew Carley, Karl Dickson and Christophe Ridley in being the lead official during this Six Nations, showcasing the strength of the English refereeing pool.

The Lionesses take on Spain in Basel, Switzerland, hoping to lift the Euro trophy once again, three years on from their maiden success. However, they know they are up against it as they face a Spanish side who defeated them in the World Cup final in 2023. In preparation, the group has been turning up the volume to Heather Small's Proud tune as they keep their pre-game ritual in tact. But as Serena Wiegman's team gets their game face on for once last hurdle in the tournament, celebs have took to social media to send their own messages of support. Among them was the Spice Girls. Lottie Woad fires final-round 68 to claim victory on her professional debut
The 21-year-old former world number one amateur from Surrey finished with a final round score of 68 after four days of competition at Dundonald Links. It was Woad's first victory since turning professional earlier in July. She entered the final round with a two-stroke lead and made birdies on the second, third, 13th and 14th before hitting a bogey on the 16th. Woad said on Sky Sports: 'It's a pretty good outcome, I guess! Definitely wasn't expecting to win my first event, but I knew I was playing well so I was kind of hoping to contend. 'I played really solid today. It was pretty nice in the end, could lay up on the par five. 'Links golf is really fun, don't get to play it too often. This is my first time playing links golf since the Open last year. I wasn't exactly sure how it would go, but it went fine!' Woad finished three shots ahead of second-placed Kim Hyo-joo, who fired seven birdies and three bogeys in a mixed fourth round. Julia Lopez Ramirez and Kim Sei-young shared third on 14 under, with world number one Nelly Korda a shot back in fifth. Looking ahead to that tournament, Woad added: 'Even if I hadn't won this week, I'd still be trying to win it and just trying to be up there really is all you can ask for going into the final day.'
