Lioness' adorable nephew 'thinks aunty's house is a stadium'

The Lionesses have an entourage of family members planning to join them in Switzerland as they take on their first match of the Women's Euros 2025
Lioness Lucy Bronze has told how her little niece and nephew 'think Aunty Lucy's house is a stadium' after growing up watching her play at major tournaments. Among the England legend's most loyal fan base are Alzira, three, and Freddie, five, who have been following their aunt's glittering career with their dad Jorge Bronze, since they were born.
Lucy's brother and wife Charis took their little ones to cheer on the Lionesses at the Australian World Cup two years ago and will be touching down to do the same again in Switzerland. But having only ever known a life of major tournaments and Champions League finals, Lucy told how her niece and nephew haven't realised quite what a big deal their aunty's team is yet.

She told the Mirror: "Freddie thinks that Aunty Lucy's house is a stadium. He actually says that. I think they just think it's super normal to go on four week holidays to football matches and have your dad scream at 22 women running around the field. I think they just think that's really normal."
The mini Bronzes were mascots at the Lionesses' send off match against Jamaica and also joined players' families in St George Park before the team departed to Switzerland. After coming through the youth ranks together, many of the players' families are now a tight knit group of friends who have watched the girls grow up into Lionesses together.
Lucy added: "I think they're still not old enough, but they absolutely love coming and we have a lot of young family members in the different families now, and I think it's that's nice to share moments with them and they were both, obviously they were mascots in our last game, even though technically they weren't old enough, but it was fine. They loved that, but they still had no idea. They'll look back at pictures and will probably realise, but yeah they have no idea."
A few days after the Lionesses touched down on Swiss soil, the squad enjoyed a team outing to Lake Zurich where they were treated to a boat ride across the picturesque glacial lake. Some 41,000 English fans are set to follow the team to Switzerland and roar in the stands as they bid for another European Championship victory
A number of fans gathered at the Lionesses training ground on Friday to catch their first glimpse of the squad before watching their opening game tomorrow night (Sat). Al Li, 13, from Newcastle had flown to Zurich with her parents after securing some last minute tickets for the bout.
Mum Kerry Bruce told the Mirror they'd spent more than £600 just getting out to Switzerland for just four nights to see the Lionesses.
Kerry, 33, said: "I have a friend who lives in Zurich that we could stay with so I knew we could be at this match.
"We are so excited, I was crying before, it';s our dream to actually see them. You see all the fans getting to meet them and we are just not normally that lucky. We will be absolutely buzzing to see them win. We think it will be Spain vs England again in the final.
"We'd love to come back out to see them play in the final. If we had the funds we would be back out in a heartbeat."

Women's Euro 2025 live: England ‘not good enough' as Lionesses react to France defeat

Holders England suffered a chastening start to their Euro 2025 campaign as France won 2-1 in Zurich to take charge of Group D along with the Netherlands. England could now find themselves out of the Euros on Wednesday if they lose to the Netherlands and France beat tournament debutants Wales, who lost 3-0 to the Dutch earlier in the day in the other match in Group D. Captain Leah Williamson said the Lionesses need to take 'responsibility' for their performance. "We lost the game with poor defending one-on-one,' Williamson said 'Not good enough with the ball, we weren't good enough.' England manager Sarina Wiegman also said that her team created their own problems in the defeat. 'Of course, I'm very disappointed,' said Wiegman. 'I think we started well. After that we created chances (for France) by playing short passes all the time. We were a bit sloppy too.' Leah Williamson: 'England were not good enough' Leah Williamson gave an honest assessment of England's performance as the Lionesses captain spoke to ITV after the 2-1 defeat to France. "We lost the game poor defending one v one. We learnt from those mistakes in fairness. Not good enough with the ball, we weren't good enough. We got better and took advantage of that but not enough in the end. "Sometimes it happens. The positive is I've not seen us like in terms of turning over the ball so much for a while now. Tomorrow, back on it and there were some really good stuff towards the end. "When you lose it and you're that expansive, it is tough. We hold ourselves to higher standards in our individual battles. "Everyone [needs to] take responsibly for themselves and have a look. Tomorrow we have new gameplan. Different places available and different opposition." In what was always going to be a tough opening game, The Lionesses thought they had made the perfect start to their title defence but Alessia Russo's 16th-minute rebound was disallowed by VAR after Beth Mead was marginally offside in the build-up. And England were then stunned by France's quickfire double before half time, with Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Sandy Baltimore scoring two goals in four minutes to leave England with a mountain to climb. Sarina Wiegman appeared to be furious at France's second, after England appealed for a foul on Russo in the build-up, but the goal survived a VAR review after Baltimore beat Lucy Bronze in the box to fire into the top corner. Despite failing to threaten France for much of the second half, Keira Walsh pulled one back in the 86th minute to give England some hope. Substitute Michelle Agyemeng came closest to finding an equaliser, but her shot was blocked as France survived a late scare. More info Clare Balding, leading the Wimbledon coverage for the BBC this year, has spoken candidly about the challenge she and her partner Alice Arnold are facing after the loss of their beloved Tibetan terrier Archie in 2020. The search for a new canine companion has been spirited but unhurried, as Clare reasons that it's a decision one shouldn't rush into. Speaking on the Alright, Pet? podcast at the Good Woof festival, the renowned 54-year-old presenter explained why last summer wasn't the ideal time, she said: "Here's the thing about responsible dog ownership, I'm going to be away all this summer doing the Olympics and Paralympics, this is not the time to bring a dog into my life, our life." She also highlighted that amidst ongoing house renovations—aimed at creating more space and safer environment—it was prudent to wait: "And, we are also doing a big sort of house building project, so that we can move somewhere where we've got a bit more space, we're not close to a road, and we can have doors open all the time." During a segment on her Channel 5 show Lost Dog, Found Dog, Clare consulted with a pet loss specialist who offered guidance on adopting another pet after losing one. Addressing whether bereaved owners should swiftly fill the void with a new pet, the specialist shared: "It's different for everyone, but the most important thing is, it's what's best for the animal you do get." Clare Balding stressed the significance of involving all family members in the decision to get a new dog, saying: "If you're in a unit that's made up of more than one person, you involve everybody in that decision because it's so so important." She also cautioned against attempting to replace a deceased dog with an identical breed or name, highlighting the uniqueness of each canine. "And what we often hear is that people try and replace [the dog] with the same breed, the same name, please don't because every dog is unique and has it's own character." Additionally, Clare emphasised the need for mental preparation when welcoming a new dog into the family after a loss. In a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Clare mentioned that she and her partner Alice were edging closer to becoming dog owners again, but were taking their time with the decision. Currently, Clare is occupied with presenting live BBC coverage from Wimbledon, and in September, she will embark on a book tour to promote her latest publication. Alongside Isa Guha, Clare leads the daily Wimbledon coverage on TV, broadcast on BBC One, BBC Two, and available on BBC iPlayer. Commenting on her involvement, Clare said: "I love being part of such a good team and learning from them about the new players who stepping into the void left by Federer, Nadal and Murray. "I'm excited to see how Jack Draper can progress and of course see the latest instalment of the Alcaraz/Sinner rivalry. Coco Gauff burst into our consciousness at only 15 when she beat Venus Williams on her Wimbledon debut. "I'd love to see her reach her first final here and ultimately lift the title. It would be great to see a good run from Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu."
