Call for supporters' trusts to be recognised by law
Fair Game has joined a coalition of 22 fan groups, led by Northampton Town Supporters Trust who are calling on the government to ensure "the unique status of trusts to be recognised and enshrined in law" as part of its Trusts First campaign.
Niall Couper, chief executive of Fair Game, said the campaign was "about giving those communities a real voice in the game they love"
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has been approached for comment.
The coalition of clubs, from all levels of the English game, intends to lobby government to "guarantee primacy for Trusts and other democratically-constituted supporter groups" in the forthcoming Football Governance Bill.
The legislation, which is passing through parliament after being reintroduced by the Labour government in October, will hand power to a body independent from government and football authorities to oversee clubs in England's top five divisions.
The Trusts First group includes supporters' trusts from Barnsley, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers, Exeter City, Fulham, Leicester City, Leyton Orient, Manchester United, Morecambe, Northampton Town, Plymouth Argyle, Reading, Scunthorpe United, Southend United, Swansea City, Swindon Town, Torquay United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Mr Couper said: "It's time to ensure that meaningful fan engagement isn't just a slogan, but a reality."
Andy Roberts, the chair of the Northampton Town Supporters' Trust, said: "The trust movement was founded in 1992, the year the Premier League was introduced, yet many fans up and down the country continue to be disenfranchised and marginalised by club owners pursuing their own vested interests.
"We now have a clear opportunity to get all mandated supporter groups front and centre of fan engagement, not just those who are cherry picked by clubs to sit on their panels and boards.
"We feel this should form part of the legislation and not be left to the discretion of the Independent Football Regulator."
Fair Game said a meeting will be held with democratically-elected supporter groups next week to hear their concerns for the future of football first hand.

Childhood fan Mbeumo joins Man Utd re-build
Cameroon winger Bryan Mbeumo said he "grew up wearing" the Manchester United shirt on Monday after joining the club from Brentford on a deal until 2030, with an option for a further year. Big Ten media preseason poll: Preston Stone won't be enough for David Braun's Wildcats
released their 15th annual Preseason Big Ten Football Rankings Monday morning, naming Penn State the top contender for the first time. The Nittany Lions, who haven't won the conference title since 2016, received 11 of 25 first-place votes and will rely heavily on third-year starting quarterback Drew Allar. A strong quarterback will make or break a handful of Big Ten programs this season, including David Braun's Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern finished No. 16 of 18 conference teams last season, with a 4-8 (2-7 Big Ten) record, and this season isn't looking much better. Stephen Means reported Northwestern is expected to finish at No. 17 in conference, above only Purdue. A total of 24 voters participated in the rankings, which began in 2010 when the Big Ten stopped organizing the poll. Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin and Maryland all received last-place votes. The ranking is an unfortunate strike against a Wildcat football program that's made a considerable offseason acquisition in Preston Stone. A transfer quarterback out of SMU, Stone signed to play for Braun back in December. Orange Order criticises 'inaccurate and sensationalist' media coverage
The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland (GOLI) has criticised a number of media organisations in Northern Ireland over what it said was "inaccurate, sensationalist and divisive commentary". The GOLI said the BBC's recent coverage about a cross-community sports camp in County Down which was cancelled as residents and an Orange Lodge raised concerns over the "perceived move of the GAA into the local community" , was relentless and unbalanced. In a statement , the GOLI also said the BBC continued to "marginalise Orangeism", criticising its coverage of the Twelfth celebrations. A spokesperson for the BBC said its coverage reflected "their scale and significance for those taking part". "We provided extensive, cross-platform coverage of the Orange Order's 12 July events," they added. "Our multiple news reports were informative and impartial. "And they were complemented by The Twelfth programme on BBCNI television and BBC iPlayer." The Grand Orange Lodge statement also criticised the Belfast Telegraph, Sunday Life and Irish News. It called the Sunday Life's story about the Goldsprings LOL worshipful master "victimisation". "Will the Belfast Telegraph door step the organisers of the Joe Cahill children's GAA Gaelic competition to be held as part of Féile an Phobail?" The GOLI said it had become accustomed to "commentators who are paid to produce content for the Irish News amongst others, spewing bile and intolerance towards anything associated with our culture, our community, and our traditions".
