Indonesians in Johor bus crash had just landed at KLIA
The Consul of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Johor Baru, Jati Heri Winarto, said that the workers were among a group of 55 from Lombok, Indonesia, who had just landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at around 9pm on Thursday (July 3) and were headed to Johor Baru.
He said that upon their arrival from Lombok, Indonesia, 45 workers boarded the bus while 10 others were on a van.
"Two victims, identified as Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44, were pronounced dead at the scene, and another victim identified as Nusiah sustained severe injuries and is still receiving treatment at the emergency unit of Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI).
"Meanwhile, 14 other workers who suffered minor injuries and had also received treatment at the same hospital have been discharged and continued their journey to Johor Bahru," he told reporters at the HSNI Forensic Medical Unit here on Thursday.
Firemen earlier confirmed that two people had died and 16 were injured in the accident involving a bus and two lorries, which occurred at 12.27am.
Jati Heri said that as of 2.30pm, the bodies of both deceased were still undergoing post-mortem examinations while another victim was still receiving further treatment after losing her left hand and fracturing several ribs.
The Indonesian Consulate is currently working to arrange the repatriation of the bodies to Lombok and to obtain appropriate compensation, including through the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
Meanwhile, Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the bus involved rear-ended a tanker lorry that was being towed by another lorry.
"The bus driver sustained injuries to his shoulder, ribs and hand while five other passengers complained of head pain.
"The tanker lorry driver, the towing lorry driver and the remaining passengers were not injured," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama

Lorry driver arrested after fatal crash with motorcyclist in Permatang Pauh
GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested a trailer lorry driver today to assist in investigation into the fatal crash involving his lorry and a motorcycle along Jalan Permatang Pauh near here yesterday. Central Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Helmi Aris said police learned of the crash at 8.20 pm yesterday and investigations showed the motorcyclist, who was from Mak Mandin heading to Permatang Pauh, passed the traffic lights at a T-junction when the lights were green. 'At the same time, a trailer coming from the opposite direction suddenly turned right without stopping at the lights and the motorcyclist was unable to avoid it and hit the middle left section of the trailer. 'The 19-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene while the lorry driver was unhurt,' he said in a statement today, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Four dead, six missing after boat capsizes near Kg Belawai in Sibu
SIBU: Four people died, six others are missing, while seven were rescued after a fibreglass boat carrying 17 passengers capsized while en route from the Kampung Belawai fishing jetty to the Coconut Farm Jetty (Zion Pelita). The incident occurred around 2.11pm on Saturday (July 5). The vessel, believed to be transporting Indonesian plantation workers along with daily necessities, sank before reaching its destination. According to the Fire and Rescue Department's operations response team (PKO), the boat was ferrying 17 people when it sank. "Rescue personnel arriving at the scene confirmed that four victims — two adult women, one male child and one female child — were found deceased," it said. Seven people were rescued, comprising four adult men, two adult women, and one male child. Meanwhile, six victims — five adult men and one male child — remain unaccounted for. A search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately launched within a 3km radius using rescue boats. However, poor visibility and dark weather conditions forced the team to call off operations at 6pm. The search will resume early Sunday (July 6) with assistance from the Sibu and Betong Zone Fire Department's Water Rescue Unit (PPDA).
