The Delhi High Court in an interim order restrained Patanjali Ayurved from airing its television commercials which allegedly disparaged Dabur India 's Chyawanprash Justice Mini Pushkarna in an oral order said that the Dabur's applications are allowed. However, a detailed order is awaited.Dabur had alleged that 'Patanjali Special Chyawanprash' was disparaging its Chyawanprash specifically and in general, by claiming that 'no other manufacturer has the knowledge to prepare Chyawanprash' constituting generic disparagement. The advertisements incorrectly claimed Patanjali Ayurved's product was made by using more than 51 herbs instead of 47 herbs what it actually used, Dabur said, adding that it was "misinformation to the public at large".Dabur also raised objections to parts of the advertisement where a 40-herb Chyawanprash was referred to as "ordinary,' saying this was a clear reference to its product.Dabur, which claimed to hold a dominant 61.6% market share in the Chyawanprash segment, accused Patanjali of using mercury in its Chyawanprash product, which was not fit for consumption by children.Earlier, Dabur India had highlighted Patanjali Ayurved's commercial which said that those who lack knowledge of Ayurved and Vedic traditions cannot produce the "original" Chyawanprash. Dabur India had said that the statement implied that only Patanjali Ayurved's product was authentic, while other brands were inferior or fake.

FMCG makers see weather impact on topline growth in June quarter

New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) makers are expecting their topline growth to be impacted in June quarter due to headwinds like unseasonal rains, a brief span of summer and inflation pressure on key inputs. However, the FMCG industry witnessed a sequential recovery in demand during the quarter, with an uptick in volume growth, particularly in urban markets. Margins of FMCG majors such as Marico, Dabur, and Godrej Consumer remained below the normative level and they expect a low-single-digit volume growth in the April-June period. Godrej Consumer Products expects its margin from the India business to stay below the 'normative range' in the June quarter, but is likely to deliver high-single-digit value growth aided by volume expansion. The company's volume growth, in its standalone business, has been strongly competitive and is sequentially improving, said the Godrej Industries Group FMCG arm in its quarterly updates. "Standalone EBITDA margin in Q1FY26 is likely to be below our normative range but is expected to improve," said Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL). Dabur's consolidated revenue in the June quarter is expected to grow in low-single digits on account of a decline in beverages, which was impacted during the quarter due to unseasonal rains and a short summer. Its "consolidated operating profit growth is expected to marginally lag revenue growth," said Dabur in its updates for the June quarter. However, Dabur's home and personal care (HPC) division is expected to perform well, driven by the oral, home and skin care categories. "Key brands such as Dabur Red Toothpaste, Odonil, Odomos, and Gulabari are expected to post strong growth coupled with market share healthcare our brands such as Dabur Honey, Hajmola, Dabur Honitus, and Dabur Health Juices are expected to post robust double-digit growth," said Dabur. Similarly Marico expects a 'modest operating profit' in the June quarter as it continued to witness sequential inflation in some key raw material inputs as copra, which was further heightened by unseasonal rainfall patterns. Vegetable oil prices eased following the cut in import duty by the government and crude oil derivatives remained range-bound, it added. Gross margin is expected to be under "incremental pressure, on a particularly high base and partly due to the pricing-led high denominator effect, said Marico which owns brands such as Saffola, Parachute, Hair & Care, Nihar and Livon etc. About the sector, Marico said it witnessed a "consistent demand pattern" in the June quarter, with improvement from the rural market. "During the quarter, the sector exhibited consistent demand patterns, marked by improving trends in rural markets and steady urban sentiment. We expect gradual improvement in the quarters ahead, supported by easing inflation, a favourable monsoon season and policy stimulus," said Marico. In terms of channels, organised trade including e-commerce, quick commerce and modern trade maintained their growth momentum during the quarter. About international business, Dabur said it expects to post 'double digit constant currency growth', while Marico said it delivered high-teen constant currency growth, driven by broad-based growth across most market. Godrej Consumer faced challenges in Indonesia, the second biggest market of the company after India. It had a significant increase in competitive pricing action across all major categories, which will likely result in "flattish" volume growth. "GAUM (Godrej Africa, USA, and Middle East) business is likely to deliver strong double-digit value growth and UVG for the second consecutive quarter. Profit growth continues to be healthy," it said.

Marico, Godrej Consumer, Dabur say sequential recovery in Q1; maintain caution on commodity inflation

Packaged consumer goods makers Godrej Consumer Products , Marico and Dabur indicated sequential recovery in urban and rural markets for the April-June '25 quarter in their respective quarter updates on Friday aided by easing inflation of some commodities, good monsoons and policy incentives, signalling some relief for the sector after five quarters of slowing demand. However, the companies said some of the momentum was impacted by summer rains denting demand for seasonal products and cautioned that select inflationary trends continued. 'During the quarter, the sector exhibited consistent demand patterns, marked by improving trends in rural markets and steady urban sentiment. We expect gradual improvement in the quarters ahead, supported by easing inflation, a favourable monsoon season and policy stimulus,' Marico, maker of Parachute hair oils and Saffola edible oils, said. The company noted that underlying volume growth in the India business continued to improve sequentially to reach a multi-quarter high. Researcher NielsenIQ had said in its January-March quarter update that volume growth, or number of units sold, had slowed down in the March quarter to 5.1% compared to 6.1% in the year-ago quarter, as consumers switched to small-value packs amid inflation and cutback on discretionary spending. The researcher had said the FMCG industry grew 11% year on year by value, driven by a 5.6% price hike. NielsenIQ has not yet released April-June quarter data. Godrej Consumer Products, which makes Cinthol soap and Goodknight repellents, said in its quarter review that it expects consolidated revenue to grow in double-digits, and standalone revenue to report high-single digit growth on the back of underlying volume growth (UVG). 'Volume growth has been strongly competitive and is sequentially Improving,' the company said. Godrej said palm oil prices, a key ingredient for soaps, have started to moderate from Jun'25 end, and benefit of the same is likely to flow in 2HFY26. Dabur, which makes Real juice and Vatika shampoo, said it expects sequential urban recovery on the back of favourable monsoons, strong farm output, easing inflation and government measures supporting consumption as factors that would support higher revenue growth in the coming quarters. 'Due to the decline in beverages, Dabur's consolidated revenue is expected to rise in the low single digits, with operating profit growth marginally trailing revenue growth,' Dabur said in a stock exchange filing. It added that investments in brand building, distribution, backend strengthening and operational efficiency will continue through the year. However, concerns of inflation of some key commodities persist, impacting gross margins which could continue to be under incremental pressure on a high base, the FMCG companies noted. 'Among key inputs, copra prices continued to witness sequential inflation, which was heightened by unseasonal rainfall patterns. Vegetable oil prices eased following the cut in import duty, while crude oil derivatives remained rangebound,' Marico said.

The firm said that India's consumer sector recorded a sequential recovery in demand in the April-June period, with volume growth picking up in urban markets Dabur India said on Friday it expects first-quarter operating profit to marginally lag revenue growth, which it expects in the low single-digit percentage range, due to weaker beverage sales caused by unseasonal rains and a shorter summer. Dabur houses the 'Real' packaged juice brand under its beverage portfolio, which accounted for 17% of its revenue in fiscal year 2025. The company also makes other products, including honey, toothpaste and hair oil.
