Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe and started erupting again early this morning.
Mount Etna has erupted in Sicily, sending tourists running for their lives. Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe and started erupting again early this morning.
Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said: "Over the past few hours, the activity flagged in the previous statement issued at 4.14am (3.14am BST) has carried on with strombolian explosions of growing intensity that, at the moment, are of strong intensity and nearly continuous."

Volcano Discovery.com reported that a volcanic tremor was felt before the eruption.

The tremor began at around 10pm last night before reaching a peak at 1am. The tremor was localised at an altitude of 2.8km beneath the crater area.
While no volcanic ash cloud has been detected in initial satellite imagery a cloud primarily composed of water vapor and sulphur dioxide (SO2) was observed drifting southwest from the volcano.
Pilots have been issued with a red alert after this morning's eruption.
Although no volcanic ash cloud was detected in initial satellite imagery, a cloud primarily composed of water vapor and sulfur dioxide was observed drifting southwest.
Pilots were being warned to be aware of the potential danger of flying through volcanic ash.
Volcanic ash is hard and abrasive, and can quickly cause significant wear to propellers and turbocompressor blades, and scratch cockpit windows, impairing visibility.
Previous eruptions around the world have seen planes grounded for days due to the potential risk.

Scotland's best campsites crowned as 'one for beach lovers' tops list

The top "wild(ish)" camping sites in the country have been named. Scotland's "best wild(ish) campsites" have been named. Topping the list is a coastal site that was described as "one for beach lovers". ‌ When it comes to camping in Scotland, there are many different options to suit every taste. While some like to stay in campsites or holiday parks with a range of luxuries, others prefer the peace and solitude of wild camping. ‌ On Tuesday, July 29, The Times shared a list of "five of the best wild(ish) campsites in Scotland". The newspaper selected sites around the country that strike a balance between offering important amenities while still feeling like pure camping without the bells and whistles. ‌ The number one campsite on The Times' roundup is the Horgabost Campsite on the Isle of Harris. The site, also known as the Traigh Horgabost Caravan Park, is situated in the village of Horgabost on the west coast of the Outer Hebrides island. The site, which is located on common grazing land, features grass pitches for motorhomes, campervans, caravans, and tents. All of the pitches are just a couple of minutes walk from the nearby Horgabost Beach. Among the facilities available at the Horgabost Campsite are toilets, showers, and a wash up area. The site also features a freezer for icepack freezing and a fridge for communal use. ‌ Dogs are welcome at the campsite, though must be kept on a lead at all times. Owners must also clean up after their pets and dispose of waste in a bin. Meanwhile, there is no Wi-Fi or electric hook up available at the Horgabost Campsite. This makes it well suited to those looking for an experience closer to wild camping. ‌ The Times wrote: "One for beach lovers, this basic campsite on the west coast of Harris overlooks a spectacular sweep of white sand. Toilets, showers and a communal fridge but no wi-fi or electric hook-ups. "Popular with hikers (the Hebridean Way passes right by), this campsite has one other great selling point; the mobile Saltbox Sauna occasionally popping up right alongside." ‌ Elsewhere, coming in at number two on the newspaper's roundup is the Ruberslaw Camping site in the Scottish Borders. The site is situated within 500 acres of unspoilt landscape in the Teviot Valley's Special Landscape Area. Both camping and glamping are available at Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping. Guests can choose to set up camp in a historic walled garden, while 'Safari Tents' with various added amenities can also be booked. ‌ The Times stated: "Making the most of 500 leafy acres outside Denholm, Ruberslaw caters to a diverse camping crowd with more conventional tent pitches in an Edwardian walled garden, swish safari tents and forest pitches that feel more like wild camping. "Well run and quiet (cars are left in the car park), the site revolves around a campers' hub, with a barn-like communal lounge, a small shop, a kitchen area and bathrooms." As reported by the Daily Record, the Ruberslaw Camping site was recently named the "best campsite in the Scottish Borders". Experts praised its blend of wild-style seclusion and home comforts. ‌ Another "wild(ish)" campsite featured on The Times' list is Glenbrittle Camping on the Isle of Skye. The campsite features more than 35 electric hook-ups and more than 100 tent pitches, while amenities are close by. Glenbrittle Camping was praised by The Times for its picturesque location and no-bookings policy. The newspaper also singled out the site for its café where visitors can enjoy coffee and pizza. The full list of "five of the best wild(ish) campsites in Scotland" can be found on The Times website.

Mum slams 'chaos' as Italian seaside town 'shoulder to shoulder with tourists'

Regina Simmons has hit out at a 'totally packed' Italian hotspot, claiming Positano was nothing like the tranquil paradise shown on social media. A tourist has described her holiday to an Italian seaside town as "complete chaos" claiming she was "shoulder to shoulder" with tourists. ‌ Regina Simmons, 38, had high hopes for Positano after falling in love with the 'amazing views' and 'calm, empty streets' shown in glossy videos on social media, including TikTok, reports the Mirror. ‌ But after flying 10 hours from her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, the mum-of-two said tat she and her family were disappointed with the historic town on the Amalfi Coast. ‌ Regina said: "In the videos, you see everything looks completely empty and calm. In real life there were far too many people. It was just bananas... We were overwhelmed by the amount of people. We had to look for a restaurant to hide in and make a game plan." Her experience comes after a warning to Brit tourists planning all-inclusive holidays to Spain. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Regina, her husband Dan, 46, and their daughters Sofia, 16, and Camila, 13, visited Rome and other hotspots across Italy last month. ‌ After watching TikTok clips, Regina anticipated "amazing views" along with "calm empty streets" and "locals buying fresh vegetables from the markets". ‌ From the moment they arrived at the train station, Regina said it felt "like a horror movie" as swarms of tourists packed the platforms. The businesswoman, who owns a chain of restaurants, hadn't expected the crush. "Positano is all these tight little streets and everyone is walking together. Half the people are going up and half are going down. It was complete chaos. Everyone was touching, shoulder to shoulder," the mum continued. ‌ "There are hundreds of beautiful videos of Positano which inspire you to go. This year feels very trendy - lots of my American friends are travelling to Italy this year." The couple imagined peaceful strolls, scenic views, and locals picking up fresh produce from quiet markets. ‌ But when they did spot a quaint shop or cafe, the crowds made it impossible to stop. Regina, who had stayed at a hotel in Sorrento and ventured east to Positano for a day trip, said: "We found everything was in English and there were Americans everywhere. I actually took Italian classes, and I never needed to use it." If they return to Europe for a holiday, the couple say they will look at other countries. Mum-of-two Regina continued: "If it's trendy on social media, everyone wants to do what everyone else is doing, Myself included... Don't believe everything you see on social media."

Donald Trump's Air Force One makes guest appearance in couple's wedding photoshoot

The US President made an appearance in the couple's photographs as his impressive jet Air Force One flew over their heads. This is the moment Donald Trump featured in a Scots couple's pre-wedding photo shoot. ‌ The US President made an appearance in practice snaps for a bride-and-groom-to-be as his impressive jet Air Force One flew over their heads. ‌ The iconic plane carrying the world leader was coming into land at Prestwick Airport on Friday. ‌ Thousands had gathered to watch the historic moment as the president arrived for a whistle-stop five-day visit to Scotland to visit his two golf resorts. And as the mega Boeing-747 made its final approach it was captured at nearby Enterkine Country House Hotel by the couple's wedding photographer, who caught stunning images. ‌ Koren McGreever, 29, and future-husband, Aaron Davis, 32, were down on ground level posing amongst scenic fields when they heard the huge jet fly over. They quickly rushed to get a perfect spot with wedding snapper Gavin Macqueen snapping the world's most famous aircraft above them. ‌ Koren, who lives with Aaron in Stirling, told the Record: 'We're not getting married until next July but we wanted to do a practice shoot this summer to try and replicate the same lighting and background. 'We never expected that background to include the President of the United States. 'We never actually realised he was arriving that day until we heard this loud plane over our heads. I looked up and it was the biggest jet I've ever seen. ‌ 'We only had a few seconds to get a shot with it in, the photographer was scrambling about trying to get it. 'We ran to another spot in the middle of a barely field and Gavin managed to get this incredible pic with Air Force One up above us. ‌ 'The end result is amazing, it is definitely getting framed.' The couple say they have had a great response to the pictures which was shared on social media by Gavin. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! 'Another friend shared a picture of us and put the caption 'Love Trumps All', which we absolutely loved.' ‌ Glasgow photographer Gavin Macqueen admitted the appearance of President Trump's plane caught him by surprise. He said: 'I drove round from Prestwick to Enterkine House and the airport perimeters were mobbed with people and the police. 'I had a feeling I was going to see Air Force One but I hadn't anticipated that it would be during the shoot. I thought it would be on the drive back to Prestwick where I was staying for the night. It was surreal how it happened. ‌ 'We heard the low drone of the plane before we saw it. We were right on the flight path. And then I got the pictures. It all happened so fast - instinct took over.' Trump touched down last Friday at the Ayrshire travel hub before heading along to his golf resort in Turnberry where he spent a few days. He then travelled to his Meine Estate golf course in Aberdeenshire where he had dinner with First Minister John Swinney and held crunch talks with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Trump's presence in Scotland was met with protests in both Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire.
