Cleveland Guardians at Kansas City Royals, ppd.
Update 8:04 p.m. ET: Friday's Cleveland Guardians at Kansas City Royals game was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as a part of a split doubleheader Saturday with the opener set for 2:40 p.m. ET and the second contest set for 7:15 p.m. Original column below (published 1:56 p.m. ET) The Cleveland Guardians (51-51) face the Kansas City Royals (50-53) in the opener of a 3-game set Friday. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium in K.C. is set for 8:10 p.m. ET (Apple TV+). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Guardians vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets. Season series: Guardians lead 4-2 The Guardians snapped a 4-game winning streak with a 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles Thursday. OF Steven Kwan left the yard twice to give him 8 homers on the year. 3B Jose Ramirez is hitting .333 with 3 homers and 6 RBIs the last 7 days and has 8 homers and 18 RBIs this month. The Royals are 3-3 out of the All-Star break and had Thursday off after taking 2 of 3 at the Chicago Cubs. They won 8-4 Wednesday. 1B Vinnie Pasquantino left the yard twice to give him 17 dingers on the year. Cleveland sits 3 games out of a Wild Card spot, and K.C. is right behind it at 4½ back. Guardians at Royals projected starters RHP Gavin Williams vs. RHP Michael Wacha Williams (6-4, 3.54 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.38 WHIP, 5.0 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 through 104 1/3 innings. Wacha (4-9, 3.62 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 through 97 innings. Guardians at Royals odds Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:56 p.m. ET. Guardians at Royals picks and predictions Guardians 4, Royals 3 Moneyline The Guardians are the same team at home as on the road. They're 25-25 at home and 26-26 on the road. They're also 17-9 inside the division. Wacha has a career-low 6.8 K/9, and I like the upside for the GUARDIANS (-105) here. If Williams can keep his walks in check, they should cruise. Run line/Against the spread Give me GAVIN WILLIAMS OVER 4.5 STRIKEOUTS (-140). He has 11, 5 and 8 K's in his last 3 GS and 5+ K's in 4 of his last 5 starts against K.C. Over/Under It's slated to be 83 degrees with wind going all over the place. There's also a 40% chance of rain. Kauffman is a big park, and neither team has a great offense (CLE 26th at 3.9 R/game; K.C. 29th at 3.5 R/game). I'll LEAN UNDER 8 (-105). Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Tiffany Hayes scored 17 points, Janelle Salaun added 16, and Golden State scored 56 points in the second half to rally past Dallas 86-76 on Friday night. After being held to 30 points in the first half and falling behind by 12 early in the second half, the Valkyries scored 33 points in the third quarter to take a 63-60 lead heading to the fourth. The Wings stayed within five points early in the fourth quarter and tied it at 71 on a short floater from Paige Bueckers. Golden State led 75-72 with under three minutes remaining when Temi Fagbenle grabbed an offensive rebound to keep a possession alive. Her layup and subsequent three-point play gave the Valkyries a 78-72 lead. Hayes made 5 of 6 free throws and Veronica Burton added 3 of 4 down the stretch wrap up the victory. Bueckers scored 17 points, Arike Ogunbowale 16, Aziaha James 13 and Haley Jones 10 for Dallas (7-18). Fagbenle scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Golden State (11-12). Carla Leite added 14 points and Cecilia Zandalasini scored 10. Dallas led 21-10 after one quarter, then the Valkyries closed to within 21-19 before Ogunbowale hit a 3-pointer for Dallas. UFC on ABC 9: Robert Whittaker vs. Reinier de Ridder odds, picks and predictions
In a 5-round middleweight bout in the main event, Robert Whittaker and Reinier de Ridder meet Saturday at UFC on ABC 9 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The prelims begin at noon ET (ESPN / ESPN+) with the main card at 3 p.m. (ABC / ESPN+). Their fight is expected to start at approximately 5:45 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's UFC odds around the UFC on ABC 9: Whittaker vs. de Ridder odds, and make our expert UFC picks and predictions. Records: Whittaker (27-8-0) | de Ridder (20-2-0) Whittaker is looking to bounce back after a Round-1 submission loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 308 last time out in late October. He is just 3-3 in his past 6 fights, but losses to Chimaev, former division champ Dricus Du Plessis (July 2023) and Israel Adesanya (February 2022) is not embarrassing in the least. Whittaker's last win, 2 fights ago, was a Round-1 KO/TKO win over Ikram Aliskerov in a Fight Night main even in late June 2024. Six of his past 9 bouts went the distance, with 5 wins via unanimous decision and the title fight loss to Adesanya at UFC 271. For de Ridder, he is viewed as a fighter on the rise. Since joining the company, he has 3 consecutive victories. The most impressive might have been a Round-2 knockout of Bo Nickal last time out in early May, handing the prospect his first UFC loss. He also has submission wins over veterans Kevin Holland (Jan. 18, 2025) and Gerald Meerschaert (Nov. 9, 2024), so he hasn't exactly been fighting tomato cans to get to this point. The southpaw de Ridder has a 4.5-inch reach advantage, although Whittaker has a 4.54-to-3.25 significant-strikes-landed-per-minute advantage. The "Dutch Knight" de Ridder, who is from the Netherlands, has been much more accurate with those strikes, though, landing at a blistering 78.66% pace in his 3 bouts with the UFC, as opposed to just 45.99% for Whittaker. He also likes to get the fight to the canvas early and often, posting a 4.74 takedown average, and a 38.89% mark on takedown accuracy, while posting a 1.36 submission average. Lines last updated at 12:14 a.m. ET. UFC on ABC 9: Whittaker vs. de Ridder picks and predictions Fight result (2-way line or moneyline) This is going to be a pretty good fight, and it's tough to pick a winner. Whittaker was once on the precipice of a title, but he is just 3-3 in his past 6 fights. He's looking to get a victory here to get back onto the path for another title shot. However, DE RIDDER (+120) is the better value at plus-money. He is on the rise. To get to this point, he disposed of veterans Holland and Meerschaert, while stunning the division with a knockout of previous middleweight golden boy Nickal. de Ridder is a top-notch wrestler, but he also has tremendous punching power, and he can get the job done in a number of ways. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! Over/Under No (-285): "Fight will go the distance" will set you back nearly 3 times the potential return. There's no value there. The only way to excuse laying so much is to toss this into a multi-leg parlay, perhaps of at least 5 or 6 legs. The better value is to take a look at UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-105). The past 2 fights against Aliskerov and Chimaev have ended in Round 1 for Whittaker, and he has finished Under 2.5 Rounds in 3 of his past 4 outings. For de Ridder, his past 2 fights have ended prior to the midway point of Round 2, and he has 3 finishes in 3 fights at the UFC level. Visit MMA Junkie for more fight news and analysis.
