Leona Maguire and Jennifer Kupcho tied for second in Michigan
LEONA MAGUIRE and Jennifer Kupcho are tied for second after the first round of the LPGA Dow Championship pairs event in Midland, Michigan on Thursday.
The Cavan native and her American teammate finished with an opening round 67, leaving the duo three under par.
Maguire and Kupcho made up for a bogey on the second hole, with birdies on the third, eighth, 12th and 16th.
They are one of six teams that are tied for second.

Among the teams on 67, the Japanese duo of Saki Baba and Yuri Yoshida had reached five-under with five birdies in their first 14 holes but dropped back with two late bogeys.
In addition to Maguire and Kupcho, they were tied with China's Liu Yan and Zhang Yahui, England's Jodi Ewart Shadff and Taiwan's Heather Lin, South Koreans Im Jin-hee and Lee So-mi, Americans Megan Khang and Lexi Thompson.
Gemma Dryburgh and Cassie Porter combined for five birdies in a four-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead.
Scotland's Dryburgh and Australian rookie Porter teed off on 10 at Midland Country Club and grabbed four birdies in their first nine holes.
They answered their lone bogey of the day at the second with a birdie at the par-five third to finish the day one stroke clear atop a crowded leaderboard.
The pair had picked up their first birdie of the day at the 12th, and their three birdies in a row at 14, 15 and 16 included a chip-in for Porter.
'We just rolled really well together,' Porter said, Dryburgh adding that their games complemented each other well in the alternate-shot format used for the first and third rounds, with best-ball rounds to come on Friday and Sunday.
'Tomorrow is about birdies and today was kind of more steady,' Dryburgh said. 'Obviously we made a few birdies today, but we can make even more tomorrow.'
Defending champions Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand and Yin Ruoning of China shook off an early bogey and nabbed three birdies in a two-under 68 that left them in a seven-way tie for eighth.
'We did not wake up yet, it's too early,' Jeeno said.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been able to clear the air with Coco Gauff after her emotional reaction to losing the French Open final to the American earlier this month. I think I realised a lot of things about myself in those last stages of the tournament. "We spoke with the team. I think we learned something. I really hope it will never happen again." Sabalenka, who is up against Canadian Carson Branstine in the first round, has no qualms about facing Gauff again should the two end up involved in a rematch in the Wimbledon final. "If I make it to the finals, I don't care (who I play), but also I would love to face Coco," she said. "If she's going to be there, I'm happy because I want to get the revenge!". Sabalenka has been limbering up for the tournament by having a hit with both Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, with the former happy to offer advice drawn from his vast experience. She said: "Novak is the best. First of all, I was able to hit with him, which not every guy would be able to do. Then you can chat with him, he will give his honest advice. "It's amazing to hear opinions of such a legend. We were just chatting about stuff that I'm struggling with a little bit. I'm really thankful for the advice he gave me. "It was a 30-minute chat. If you give opportunity to Novak to talk, he's not going to stop! I wish I could stay there for four hours and just keep chatting, but we all have our schedule. "Honestly, I hit with Jannik for like, I don't know, 10 minutes - I was exhausted! "An hour with I'm recovered. I needed a day of recovery but it was a great experience. When you see someone like Jannik or Novak, you learn from them. You reflect what they do on court. It was great for me."

LOI boss won't be popular with his daughters after transfer window comments
Waterford boss John Coleman has come up with an unusual way to describe the ruthless nature of the transfer market. Coleman is eager to strengthen his squad this summer - and that could be bad news for some of his current players. However, the 62-year-old has grown attached to his Blues stars. So much so that he reckons replacing them would be similar to going out and looking for 'three better daughters.' That's one aspect of squad strengthening that the devoted dad is not looking forward to. 'The window's open next week. I think every team will try and strengthen in this league. We'll try and be the same, try and get some reinforcements in,' said the former Accrington Stanley and Gillingham boss. 'But what I will say is I'm really proud of the squad I've got. The squad of players I've got, they give absolutely everything for the cause, for the Waterford jersey. 'I'm immensely proud of them, immensely proud of the way we conducted ourselves (in Friday's defeat to Shamrock Rovers). 'We didn't lose our heads and the way we played the game. You have lads who you become close to, they become like sons to you. But you always want to replace them with better. 'I sometimes think about my daughters. Pitches are stunning. Great stadium. It's the worst vantage point ever on the bench,' said Coleman. 'You can only have one standing up. The fourth was great, actually. He was good fun. But he was like a Gestapo guard. We were never going to have a chance of escaping. So only one can stand up. 'Danny likes to try and affect the position of players on the pitch.
