Parvati and Duryodhan, who had moved to the NCR city from Odisha two years ago in search of better opportunities, were enjoying the pleasant weather on their terrace around 10.30pm on July 15. What began as innocent banter turned tragic when Parvati climbed onto the parapet and playfully asked her husband, "If I fall, will you save me?"
As she attempted to step down, Parvati lost her footing and began to slip.
Duryodhan (28) lunged forward and managed to grab her hand, holding on to her desperately as she dangled from the edge.
For nearly two minutes, he called out for help, but with no one around, his grip eventually gave way.
And Parvati fell to the ground below.
Despite Duryodhan's frantic calls for help and the swift arrival of a police team along with an ambulance, Parvati succumbed to her injuries within half an hour of being wheeled into a private hospital. She had suffered severe internal damage.
Cops at DLF-3 police station said they had initiated an inquiry into the "tragic incident".
"No, there were no signs of foul play. Marks on the husband's hands and chest support his statement that he tried to save his wife. He broke down saying he lost everything when we questioned him about the sequence of events," an officer said.
The couple, who had been married for around two and a half years, worked at a private firm in the city and had been building a new life together.
It was around 10pm that they had gone to the terrace of their rented apartment to escape the heat when the incident occurred.

After an autopsy, Parvati's body was handed over to her family. Devastated by the loss, Duryodhan posted a heartbreaking message on Instagram on Saturday, pleading for his wife to return.
"You are my life, you are everything to me. Please come back. I'm waiting to hear your voice, feel your presence, your touch."

Instagram account of higher edu dept, Ravenshaw website hacked; later restored

Bhubaneswar: The Instagram account of the higher education department and the website of Ravenshaw University were hacked on Monday, resulting in the posting of content unrelated to academic activities. While the department ensured its social media account was quickly retrieved and the unauthorised posts were removed, the university website was compromised till afternoon. An official statement from the department stated, "Immediate steps were taken to regain control of the Instagram account. The department successfully restored the account and removed the unrelated content." In response to the breach, the department decided to take the matter seriously and filed an FIR at Saheed Nagar police station here to initiate a formal investigation. Similarly, visitors to Ravenshaw's official website were being greeted with a page displaying 'HostGator', rather than the usual university-related content. "We took steps to retrieve the website and it is opening now," said Kanhu Charan Mallick, university registrar. "These incidents highlight the growing threat of cyberattacks on educational institutes, emphasising the need for robust cybersecurity measures. Both the higher education department and Ravenshaw University are expected to enhance their digital security protocols to prevent future breaches," said a computer science professor of a state public university. The hacking incidents have raised concerns among students and faculty, who rely on the digital platforms for important updates and information. "Authorities are urged to act swiftly to restore normalcy and ensure the security of their digital assets," said the professor.

Cops probing ‘Gulf trafficking link' in religious conversion case

Dehradun: Investigators probing two recent cases of alleged religious conversion in Dehradun suspect that the accused, part of an organised gang with international links, may have trafficked converted women to Gulf countries to "marry them off to Muslim men there". The revelation comes after Dehradun police on Saturday registered the second such case against six people, including a woman, for allegedly converting a 28-year-old woman, named Sumaiyya after conversion. Five of the six accused, including a woman from Goa, had already been arrested by UP police for a similar case in Agra. The sixth, Suleiman, originally from Dehradun, is currently staying in Dubai. "During Sumaiyya's counselling, it emerged that one of the accused, a Delhi resident, planned to send her to Dubai using forged govt IDs and a passport made in her new name. He said she would be married off to a Muslim man there," said an officer involved in the probe, requesting anonymity. "She also mentioned another woman converted by the same gang, who is now believed to be living in Hyderabad. This raised suspicions that the group may have trafficked other converted women to the Gulf by promising them marriage and a better future. " The officer added that police are now tracking an international money trail after discovering that Sumaiyya had paid an online fee to a cleric in Pakistan for Arabic and religious classes by depositing money in Suleiman's India-based bank account, which he then transferred from Dubai to the cleric. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo "This points to the use of hawala channels. Once we establish the trail, we'll share details with central agencies for further action," the officer said. A second officer from the district intelligence unit said the mobile phones of both rescued women have been sent for forensic analysis to retrieve deleted data. "The accused mostly communicated via Instagram or WhatsApp using disappearing messages, and only spoke on WhatsApp calls to avoid a trace. We're hopeful the recovered data will shed light on more sinister elements of their operation," he said. Meanwhile, SP Dehradun (Rural-Rishikesh) Jaya Baluni, when contacted said the two cases are being investigated from all angles. "The five accused arrested by UP police will soon be brought to Dehradun for interrogation. The search for other accused is ongoing," he said.
