Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Rams are currently in the midst of training camp, and the team received a massive visit. Former Rams legend Aaron Donald has officially returned. Aaron Donald making an appearance at #Rams camp: — Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) August 3, 2025 It is not rare for former players to show up to wish the team good luck and potentially help coach up the guys on the team. However, there have been plenty of rumors regarding Donald either ending his retirement or heading into coaching. Further reports showcased Donald speaking to Rams general manager Les Snead. Though the pair could be simply chatting and catching up, this could lead to more fruitful conversations. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - JANUARY 14: Aaron Donald #99 of the Los Angeles Rams looks on from the sideline prior to an NFC Wild Card Playoff football game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on January 14, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. Aaron Donald might not be as retired as he says he is, according to Rams legend Marshall Faulk. MoreMore news: Chargers and Keenan Allen Reunion Could Happen Soon Donald played all 10 seasons with the Rams and was a monster pass rusher. He set a career high of 20.5 sacks in 2018 and put together a career of 111.0 sacks through those 10 seasons. Donald also secured three Defensive Player of the Year nods, 10 Pro Bowl nods, and eight First-team All-Pro nods. He should be an easy first-ballot Hall of Famer as well. Though there have been rumors that Donald could end his retirement, that might not be the case. It would be more plausible that he would instead want to come over and help to coach the defense to some degree. Either way, the Rams getting a visit from their former defensive legend was sure to fire up the team. The Rams surprised everyone in 2024 when they were viewed as a "rebuilding" team. Despite the rough start of 1-4, the team would rifle off a 5-1 record in the final six games of the regular season. Matthew Stafford played a wonderful season despite also having to deal with a severely injured offensive line. The Rams would make it to the postseason and handily beat the then-red-hot Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Sadly, Los Angeles' postseason berth was cut short when they lost in the Divisional Round to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Things are looking up for the Rams, and the team was able to land star wide receiver Davante Adams in free agency. Also, Jared Verse is one of the most dynamic defensive players in the league and has been spending time with Donald. The pair could link up even more should Donald stick around for more time with the team. For more on the Rams and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

Minnesota Lynx trade for WNBA All-Defensive guard DiJonai Carrington from Dallas Wings
DiJonai Carrington is on the move again. The Minnesota Lynx have acquired Carrington from the Dallas Wings in exchange for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson and a 2027 second-round pick from the Lynx, both teams confirmed Sunday morning on their respective X (formerly Twitter) accounts. In a corresponding move to process the trade, the Wings have waived seven-year veteran center Teaira McCowan. REQUIRED READING: MVP leader Napheesa Collier injures ankle in Lynx's 53-point win over Aces It is the second trade in a matter of months for Carrington, who was traded to the Wings from the Connecticut Sun back in February. The former second-round pick out of Baylor is averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists this season. The Lynx trading for Carrington, who has a WNBA All-Defensive first-team selection on her resume, comes a day after star forward Napheesa Collier left Minnesota's 111-58 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Aug. 2 with ankle injury. Carrington was named the Most Improved Player last season in the WNBA with the Sun, as she posted career-high averages of 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.56 steals per game, which was an increase from 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.63 steals in 2023. She joins a Lynx squad that has a six-game lead over the New York Liberty in the WNBA standings. Miller, a former No. 2 overall pick in 2023, gives the Wings a young forward to pair with Maddy Siegrist, Myisha Hines-Allen and Luisa Geiselsoder. In Samuelson, the Wings get a veteran guard, though she is set to miss the remainder of the season following a season-ending left foot surgery. Diana Taurasi Silences Caitlin Clark Rivalry Talk With Latest Comments
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Before Caitlin Clark was even drafted No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever two seasons ago, she seemingly had a target on her back. Clark, who many considered to be the most-hyped-up female college basketball player in the sport's history, was just weeks away from transitioning from the University of Iowa to the WNBA, where most expected her to dominate much like she did at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. But many of the league's top stars appeared to take exception to Clark's golden-girl treatment, with some making it clear they had their sights set on humbling the two-time Associated Press Player of the Year. Recently retired Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi was among them, and during an appearance on "SportsCenter" she hinted to host Scott Van Pelt that Clark was in for a rude awakening after she was drafted. "Reality is coming," Taurasi said in an ominous warning to Clark and college basketball's other top stars making the jump to the WNBA. "You look superhuman playing against 18 year olds but you're going to come with some grown women who've been playing professional basketball for a long time." Clark ended up being the one to humble Taurasi after her near-unanimous Rookie of the Year win, as well as being an All-WNBA first-team selection and finishing fourth in MVP voting while breaking dozens of WNBA, rookie, and Fever records. The Fever defeated the Mercury 88-82. MoreBut in the months since Taurasi retired, she and Clark have seemingly buried the hatchet in their not-to-serious rivalry. During a recent interview with FanSided, Taurasi admitted her and Clark have gotten quite close since her rookie year, seemingly ending any speculation that the 11-time All-Star and three-time WNBA champion still had any animosity toward the Fever phenom. "We get along really well," Taurasi told FanSided. "We got some great interactions. I just absolutely love what she does on the court, off the court. When I watch her play, and the way she goes about her business, there's a seriousness about it that I love. "... You know, she's taking this game to new heights and it's been amazing to watch and follow her. You know, it's only going to get better for our league and for Caitlin." Diana Taurasi on Caitlin 'Me and Caitlin are really good friends. She's taking this game to new heights.' — correlation (@nosyone4) August 2, 2025 More WNBA: Napheesa Collier Calls Out Alarming Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese WNBA Trend Clark and Taurasi seemed to squash any beef they had back in April during her appearance on "The Bird & Taurasi Show" during the WNBA Playoffs. Clark congratulated Taurasi on her retirement following an impressive 20-year WNBA career that included two WNBA Finals MVPs, 10 All-WNBA first-team selections, and five scoring titles. Taurasi accepted the well-wishes while also taking a self-deprecating jab at herself. "Now unfortunately, reality is coming to me now," Taurasi joked. In three games head-to-head last season, Clark's Fever bested Taurasi's Mercury all three times. Clark averaged 21.3 points, 11.6 assists, and 6.6 rebounds per game, while Taurasi averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in two appearances.
