S&P/TSX composite starts the week on the rise while U.S. markets fall
TORONTO – Canada's main stock index started the trading week on an upswing while U.S. markets fell. The S&P/TSX composite index was up 426.23 points at 27,446.66. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 142.46 points at 44,031.18. The S&P 500 index was down 27.46 points at 6,302.60, while the Nasdaq composite was down 85.98 points at 20,967.61. The Canadian dollar traded for 72.52 cents US compared with 72.53 cents US on Friday. The September crude oil contract was down 80 cents US at US$65.49 per barrel. Now in its second year, the initiative is offering $200,000 in total funding to support climate adaptation and mitigation projects that reduce the effects of extreme weather on communities.
