Matthew Stafford update: How long will Rams QB be out?
The Rams continued that investment in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting tight end Terrance Ferguson in Round 2 and running back Jarquez Hunter in Round 4.
Training camp began on July 23 for the defending division champions. They're preparing for what could be a close battle in the NFC West once again.

There's one key piece that's not on the field, though: quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The 37-year-old is entering his fifth year with the Rams but has missed training camp so far with back soreness. Los Angeles coach Sean McVay said Stafford will not return to practice this week as previously hoped. McVay said they're taking a week-to-week approach to his recovery.
'We've got a good plan in place,' McVay said. 'We are going to still take some more time with him, though. Nothing that's changed in terms of the setback. I probably spoke a little bit too soon, but the ultimate goal is [Week 1 game against] Houston and being mindful of that. So we'll take it a week at a time with him."
Stafford didn't participate but was in attendance at training camp this weekend.

How long will Stafford be out?
There's no clear timetable for Stafford's return to the field at training camp as the Rams are taking this week-to-week approach. McVay reiterated that there's no "reason for concern" as to why Stafford won't be practicing.
Los Angeles' preseason games start Aug. 9 against the Dallas Cowboys, but it was unlikely Stafford would play in that matchup even if fully healthy.
McVay will likely provide more updates in the coming days and into next week about Stafford's availability.
Stafford missed just one game in 2024, the regular season finale against Seattle, to rest ahead of the playoffs. In 16 games (all starts), Stafford completed 340 of 517 passes for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
The Rams went 10-7 during the regular season and advanced as far as the divisional round of the NFC playoffs, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, 28-22.

More than a hundred are set to be fined and/or lose their allocation for the next two Super Bowls after league sources revealed they sold their tickets for more than face value. 'Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket's face value in violation of the policy,' NFL chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel said in a memo sent out to all 32 NFL teams. The 100 players represent a little over 6% of the entire NFL player rosters. But per an ESPN report, there are team employees, including coaches, who are among the number who sold their tickets. 'This long-standing League Policy, which is specifically incorporated into the Collective Bargaining Agreement, prohibits League or Club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket's face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less,' the memo continued. Players and team personnel sold the tickets to 'bundlers' who were working with resellers, per the memo. Penalties will increase for anyone deemed to be working with the bundlers to help facilitate sales. Fines would be one and a half times what the player or employee sold the ticket for, and they would lose the chance to acquire them for the next two Super Bowls. There could also be suspensions involved. Some of the players involved have already elected to pay the fines. Those who lose their allotment would only be able to purchase tickets if they are playing in the Super Bowl. The league would not release names of players, coaches or team personnel who were part of the crackdown. Tickets for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, which resulted in a 40-22 win for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, ranged in cost from $2,588 to nearly $3,500 for the cheapest seats. However, back in 2009, Hubie Brown thought "the best player in the NBA" debate was not as definitive as anyone may have thought. "First of all, one guy is 31 years old and the other guy is 24, so forget it. One guy is a guard and the other guy is a small forward who is a small forward/power forward," Brown explained in an interview with David Friedman. "So, they are not even in the same category, but if you are starting a franchise, then you are taking LeBron James." Kobe's advantage over LeBron Jerry West fanned the flames of this discussion when he said The King may have already surpassed the Black Mamba as a player. It was a wild statement, to say the least, given the Logo's close friendship with Bryant and the fact that James still had no rings to show at that point. West pointed to James' versatility and playmaking as the edge he'd consider if forced to choose between him and Bryant. LeBron also had size going for him and was seven years younger than Kobe. When all is said and done, West said, James had a chance to be the greatest of all time. Still, both West and Brown pointed out two areas where Bryant had the edge. Jerry cited his clutch gene, while Hubie favored his relentless defense. "Kobe Bryant is on the All-Defensive Team almost every year, Michael Jordan is one of the greatest defensive players ever, Oscar Robertson. The thing that separates them is not the points but whether they play both ends of the floor," stated Brown. However, Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, felt LeBron was closing in on that department. He finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2009, behind Dwight Howard and started a string of five consecutive All-Defensive First Team selections. That said, 16 years later, Bryant (12) still had twice as many All-Defensive Team nods as James (6).Hubie downplayed the gap between Kobe and LeBron in the clutch As good as Kobe was defensively and in the clutch at this stage of his career, Brown believed it was closer than anyone thought. Factor in LeBron's athleticism and it may just be a coin toss. "He's probably the quickest guy with or without the ball from rim to rim," added Brown, referring to James. "He's definitely the best passer in traffic that we have in the league, in my opinion; if not, you might give me one or two other guys who can pass as well as he does. Plus, he sees over the traps and he will unselfishly make the correct pass every single time." As for clutch situations, Brown was not ready to give it to Bryant either, especially when James was catching up fast. "Now, you say 'Who is better in the fourth quarter?', you probably take Kobe Bryant, but I'm not so sure of that. Kobe can make the threes at a higher percentage over LeBron, but Kobe wasn't a great three-point shooter either for a while,"added the Hall of Fame coach. In 2009, Kobe was the more accomplished player. He had the titles, the playoff moments and the respect of nearly everyone when it came to delivering in the clutch. LeBron, on the other hand, was younger, bigger and more versatile. He didn't have the rings yet, but his impact on the game was already undeniable. Brown and West both recognized the value that each guy brought. Kobe had the edge in defense and late-game shot-making, but LeBron was the better all-around player and the one you'd build a team around. Even five years after his tragic death, Kobe Bryant continues to be arguably the most beloved superstar in Los Angeles Lakers history. Both shoes are signed, and both autographs include letters of authentication from Professional Sports Authenticator's authentication arm, PSA/DNA." That first start for Bryant came during a road game against the Dallas Mavericks, and on that day, he made five of his 11 field-goal attempts and scored 12 points in 32 minutes. Back in February, the sneakers Bryant wore in 2013 when he tore his Achilles went for $660,000 at an auction. In April, a jersey that was photo-matched to the one he wore during his first regular-season game was sold for $7 million.
