Eswatini rejects SADC-Polisario agreement, backs Morocco's autonomy plan
In an official verbal note, Eswatini's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its «unwavering support for the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco». The note emphasized that «the Kingdom of Eswatini does not consider the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the so-called Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to be a binding agreement. Consequently, Eswatini considers itself not legally bound by its provisions». The country also expressed its strong support for Morocco's territorial integrity to the Polisario's allies within the SADC.
It's worth noting that Eswatini inaugurated a consulate in Laayoune on October 7, 2020, in a ceremony attended by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Eswatini's Foreign Minister Thulisile Dladla.
Among SADC member states that have recognized Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara by opening consulates in Laayoune or Dakhla, only the Democratic Republic of Congo has yet to publicly denounce the deal between the SADC executive secretary and the Polisario. Notably, South Africa has deployed troops in support of the DRC in its conflict with opposition forces backed by Rwanda.
The DRC has maintained a consulate in Laayoune since December 19, 2020.

Raja Launch 1,000-Member Plan to Reshape Club Leadership
Raja Club Athletic announced a new campaign on Monday to expand its parliamentary body to 1,000 members, in a move designed to overhaul the club's governance structure. In a statement issued that morning, the Casablanca-based club said the initiative seeks to transform Raja's parliament into a genuine decision-making force that reflects the aspirations of fans – especially at a time when the club is undergoing major changes, particularly at the administrative and managerial levels. Membership will grant holders a seat in the Raja Parliament – the club's highest decision-making authority – and the right to vote in presidential elections. Members will also be invited to contribute to the club's strategic planning, join internal committees, and take part in ongoing development projects. The club said reaching the 1,000-member milestone would mark an unprecedented achievement in Moroccan football. After a decade of financial instability and institutional drift, Raja's president, Jawad Ziyat, is now seeking to rebuild the club and lay the foundations for long-term success. Sahara : Italy sidesteps Algeria's push for «self-determination of the Sahrawi people»
On Wednesday, July 23, Rome hosted the 5th intergovernmental summit between Italy and Algeria. At the end of the high-level meeting, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune each delivered statements summarizing the key issues discussed. As is customary during such international engagements, the Algerian president expressed satisfaction with what he called the «perfect convergence» of views between Rome and Algiers on several political matters. On the Western Sahara issue, Tebboune stated that Italy «supports the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General's Personal Envoy to achieve a just political solution, in accordance with international legality, allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination». Joint Statement Contradicts Tebboune's Remarks However, the official joint communiqué released Wednesday by the Italian government presents a notably different stance. In paragraph 29, the document states that both countries «reiterated their support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, to revive direct negotiations and achieve a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions». Notably absent from this joint communiqué is any mention of the «self-determination of the Sahrawi people», which Tebboune emphasized in his remarks. Moreover, in her statement to the press, Prime Minister Meloni did not address the Western Sahara issue. Instead, she highlighted discussions with President Tebboune on crises in the Sahel and Libya. Italy's position on the Western Sahara has been consistent in recent years. In July 2023, following a meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, Rome reaffirmed its support for «the serious and credible efforts made by Morocco» to resolve the dispute. It also reiterated its backing of «the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to continue the political process aimed at reaching a just, realistic, pragmatic, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara issue, based on compromise and in accordance with resolution 2654», adopted by the Security Council in October 2022, a resolution Algeria notably rejected. Italy also called on «all parties to remain engaged in a spirit of realism and compromise, within a framework consistent with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter».

The Gambia Reiterates Support for Morocco's Sovereignty over Sahara, Fully Backs Autonomy Plan as Only Credible, Serious, and Realistic Solution
The Republic of Gambia reiterated its support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara region and for the Autonomy Initiative as the only solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. This clear and consistent stance was reaffirmed in a joint communiqué issued following talks held Wednesday in Rabat between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie. In the joint communiqué, the Gambian Foreign Minister "reaffirmed Gambia's support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region," and "reiterated the Republic of Gambia's full support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to this issue." The Gambian Minister also "praised the growing international consensus, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in support of the Autonomy Plan and Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara," while recalling "the opening of the Consulate General of the Republic of Gambia in Dakhla in January 2020", the first consulate general to open in Dakhla.
