MAG reinforces Langkawi's role as key tourism gateway

Langkawi, one of Malaysia Airlines' earliest and most iconic leisure destinations, remains central to the airline's network. With 56 weekly flights linking the island to major cities across Malaysia and beyond, MAG continues to champion Langkawi's strategic role in tourism and economic development.
In line with this commitment, Malaysia Airlines recently partnered with the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the Langkawi Development Authority to host the second edition of its flagship Trade Elevation Summit (TES). Building on the success of last year's inaugural event in Kuala Lumpur, TES 2025 welcomed more than 300 delegates, including airline representatives, trade partners, and stakeholders from 68 global cities, creating a high-impact platform for collaboration and strategic dialogue.
"Hosting the Trade Elevation Summit here reflects our long-standing commitment to uplifting Malaysia's key tourism hubs and aligning our efforts with national goals," Dersenish added.
"Through initiatives like the Bonus Side Trip and ongoing investments in connectivity, product innovation, digital platforms, and customer experience, we are strengthening our foundations and positioning Malaysia Airlines as the top-of-mind carrier in the region."
He added that the summit marks an important milestone in the airline's journey towards Visit Malaysia Year 2026, where Malaysia Airlines will continue playing a leading role in promoting the country as a world-class travel destination.

'We discussed various strategic areas of cooperation, including high-value investments in aerospace, semiconductors and automotive, clean energy ventures, defence, education as well as technical and vocational training,' the Prime Minister said after the meeting. He added that Malaysia appreciates France's support in the country's energy transition efforts and economic transformation agenda, particularly through the active participation of firms such as ENGIE, Total and Thales. Anwar alexpressed confidence that Malaysia-France relations, with France being Malaysia's fourth-largest trading partner in the European Union, would continue to grow. 'I have extended an invitation to Prime Minister Bayrou to make an official visit to Malaysia to further deepen our strong ties,' he said. 'Prime Minister Bayrou and I later witnessed the exchange of three important documents that will strengthen Malaysia-France strategic cooperation in the fields of defence, economy and technology. 'The memorandum of understanding between Malaco and Carester marks a significant milestone in the development of Malaysia's rare earth industry in line with the country's ESG commitments and new energy initiatives,' said Anwar. The letter of offer to Thales LAS, he added, will enhance Malaysia's airspace surveillance capabilities through two new long-range radars. 'As for the collaboration between Matrade and Business France, it will boost bilateral trade promotion across strategic sectors such as aerospace, renewable energy and the digital economy.' Earlier, Anwar was accorded an official ceremonial welcome at the Hotel National des Invalides. He was received by Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty Eric Lombard. The national anthems of both countries were played before Anwar inspected the guard of honour. 'Honoured to receive an official ceremonial welcome from the Government of France, a meaningful and dignified gesture that reflects the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between Malaysia and France,' he said. PARIS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reassured investors that Malaysia's proposed carbon tax will not hinder business growth, emphasising a balanced approach to decarbonisation. Speaking at the Roundtable Meeting with Captains of Industry in Paris, he acknowledged global decarbonisation trends but stressed the need for realistic policies. 'The proposed carbon tax should not be seen as too problematic at the expense of investing companies,' Anwar said during the session. He highlighted that the government is finalising details for implementation in the coming months, focusing initially on high-emission sectors like iron, steel, and energy.
