Elisabeth Moss' ‘Handmaid's Tale' Emmy chances, by the numbers

For 'The Handmaid's Tale' star Elisabeth Moss, frequent contention for Emmys and other awards over the past 15 years might give the impression she has won more often than she has.
Moss' acting Emmy nominations thus far include:
for her breakout role as secretary-turned-ad copywriter Peggy Olson in 'Mad Men,' and …
for playing the sexual servitude-escaping, resistance-leading June Osborne in 'The Handmaid's Tale.'
Moss won her only acting Emmy, a drama lead prize for 'Handmaid's,' after a long dry spell that included …
losses in 2013: drama lead for 'Mad Men' and limited series lead for her performance as a detective in 'Top of the Lake.'
Moss might have inherited her Emmy win percentage from onscreen 'West Wing' parents Martin Sheen and Stockard Channing, who together collected 12 nominations but just one win (Channing, supporting drama actress, 2002), or perhaps ...
or Moss' 'Mad Men' co-star Jon Hamm's frequent-bridesmaid status.
Timing might be on Moss' side, though, if you believe in poetic justice: The 2025 Emmys will take place eight months after Donald Trump's second inauguration, and she won her 'Handmaid's' Emmy eight months after his first.

Jamie Lee Curtis confirms she'll star in 'Murder, She Wrote' movie: 'Oh, it's happening'

She also teased that she's "very excited" to dive into the role first brought to life on TV by Angela Lansbury. The mystery of who will star in the lead role of a Murder, She Wrote film adaptation has been solved. When asked point-blank what the chances are that fans could see her pick up the mantel of Jessica Fletcher, the mystery writer and amateur detective first brought to life by the late Angela Lansbury in the long-running CBS series of the same name, Jamie Lee Curtis didn't hold back. "Oh, it's… happening," Curtis playfully confirmed to Entertainment Tonight at the world premiere of Freakier Friday. "We're a minute away, but yeah, [I'm] very excited. Very excited. But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I'll get to enjoy that work." Deadline first reported in December that the Oscar winner was in talks to star in a Murder, She Wrote film at Universal written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, with producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Previously, in October 2013, it was reported that NBC was planning a reboot of the series, but by January 2014 it was revealed that it was not moving forward. The original Murder, She Wrote, which ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, focused on Lansbury's Jessica Fletcher, who became embroiled in various murder cases that took place in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, as well as other locales around the globe. Created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson and William Link, the crime drama also starred Tom Bosley, William Windom and Ron Masak. Considered one of the most successful and long-running series in history, Murder, She Wrote was a hit with the industry and public alike. At the height of its popularity, it averaged 30 million viewers per week, according to the L.A. Times. Though she never won, the role earned Lansbury a whopping 12 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The update from Curtis is a positive one for the reboot. As she alluded to, though, Curtis has much on her plate at the moment before she can pick up a magnifying glass. First up for the star is reprising her role of Tess Coleman in Freakier Friday, the sequel to the beloved 2003 film starring Lindsay December, she'll be seen in James L. Brooks' dramedy film Ella McCay alongside Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson, Kumail Nanjiani, Spike Fearn, Ayo Edebiri, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks, and Albert Brooks. In addition to Murder, She Wrote, Curtis currently has another three projects in various stages of development. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Peter Dinklage Unveils His 'Mop-Wielding Superhero' in 'The Toxic Avenger Unrated' Preview at Comic-Con

Peter Dinklage and Elijah Wood are bringing toxicity to San Diego Comic-Con. Kicking off the first day of the convention in famed Hall H on Thursday, July 24, filmmakers behind The Toxic Avenger Unrated (in theaters Aug. 29) treated fans to an early glimpse of the long-awaited superhero reboot. Dinklage, 56, who plays janitor Winston Gooze and voices the titular mutant vigilante he becomes after a poisonous freak accident, took the stage alongside costars Wood, 44, Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige, as well as writer-director Macon Blair and producer Lloyd Kaufman. Dinklage called taking on the iconic and slimy role of "mop-wielding superhero" Toxie 'an easy yes' thanks to a personal hero: filmmaker and fellow panelist Kaufman, who created the original Toxic Avenger film of 1984, set in Dinklage's native New Jersey. 'Environmental concerns are an ongoing thing, now more than ever," said the Game of Thrones Emmy winner. "The great way to get into that is through satire, through the backdoor, through humor.' Dinklage also said he was a 'huge fan' of Blair. 'This just felt so perfect and necessary and needed.' Wood's appearance in the new Toxic Avenger as Fritz Garbinger shocked fans when the film's trailer premiered in September 2023. Following a Fantastic Fest premiere that year, Blair's film was stalled due to difficulties in securing a distributor. Cineverse and Iconic Events Releasing will release an unrated version of the film beginning Aug. 29. 'There's a beating heart in there,' said Wood when asked about playing the apparently villainous Fritz. Overall, he added, 'I love the horror genre because of the possibilities. This movie is filled to the brim with ideas, and fun and playing with the medium.' When asked for the most charming thing about the movie, Paige, 34, quipped, 'That I'm in it.' The actress also gave the disclaimer that as a new mother she's 'three months postpartum... I can't put sentences together.' Tremblay, 18, plays Winston's sulky son Wade. His character's feelings toward his onscreen father differed from how he felt about Dinklage, he said, explaining, "I had to hold it together and just pretend I didn't absolutely love this guy.' Dinklage returned the favor, calling the cast 'top-knotch," including his body double, Luisa Guerreiro, who plays Toxie in a suit of prosthetics. "Over 70% of my performance is not me,' he explained. 'For me, that was an exercise in trust, in relinquishing something that was important to me… [Guerreiro] studied all my movements like a hawk and does a better me than I do.' The 1984 Toxic Avenger film, starring Mark Torgl in the lead role, was followed by three sequels, as well as a brief animated children's TV show, a stage musical, a video game and a Marvel comic. The Toxic Avenger Unrated, costarring Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne and Kevin Bacon, is in theaters Aug. 29. San Diego Comic-Con 2025 runs July 24 to 27. Read the original article on People

Mackie then heard murmurs about the Emmys on set, recalling, 'And I look over and everybody's like, 'Congratulations!' And I was like, 'Oh, what white dude got nominated?' Because I'm the white dude legend when it comes to nomination and winning. So, I made Ryan Gosling [Half Nelson] famous, I made Jeremy Renner [The Hurt Locker] famous, I made Bryan Cranston [All the Way] famous, I made, now, Ron Howard famous. I'm like, 'You wanna get nominated? I'm the dude.' I am the sauce, I am the jelly in the donut.' With a Primetime Emmy nod for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, Mackie is in good company, nominated alongside fellow The Studio guests Howard, Cranston, Martin Scorsese and Dave Franco, as well as The Bear's Jon Bernthal. 'The way I look at it, I'm very honored and proud to be nominated. But the reality of it is, I'm excited to be in second place,' he told Fallon. 'You know, it's Ron Howard and it's Scorsese, so one of them are gonna take it, but they're gonna take votes from the other person. So, I'm gonna be in second.' Mackie added, 'I don't care about winning. Winning is being nominated against Scorsese and Ron Howard. Because one of them is going to have to say, 'Damn! I lost to Anthony Mackie.' They're thinking about me, they're shaking.' Additionally, Mackie has received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Personality – Non-Daily, recognizing his NatGeo series Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast.
