Samsung Electronics reports strong Q2, teases XR and TriFold devices for H2 this year

Peter, 31 July 2025
Samsung Electronics has published its financial report for the second quarter of this year. Besides reporting on the status of its mobile, display and semiconductor businesses, Samsung also revealed some of its plans for the second half of 2025.
The Mobile eXperience (MX) and Networks businesses posted KRW 29.2 trillion in consolidated revenue with an operating profit of KRW 3.1 trillion. The MX division saw a decrease in smartphone shipments compared to Q1, but compared to Q2 last year, the results show both higher revenue and operating profit.
This quarter-to-quarter slump is natural – it was between the launch of the Galaxy S25 series and the arrival of the Galaxy Z 7 foldables. That said, Samsung credits the year-on-year growth to continued strong sales of the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy A series and Galaxy tablets. The MX Business 'maintained solid double-digit profitability'.
For the second half of the year, Samsung will continue its flagship-first approach with a focus on the new foldables, the S25 series as well as promoting the AI capabilities of its more affordable A-series. Speaking of AI, the company will be pushing more AI to its tablet and wearable product lines.
Here's the interesting bit. In the second half of 2025, Samsung will expand its Galaxy ecosystem with the launch of new form factors – including XR devices and "TriFold devices." Yes, spelled exactly like that, essentially confirming the rumored Galaxy Z TriFold name.
Samsung LSI is working on improving Exynos to 'ensure its adoption in 2026 flagship mobile lineups of a major customer'. We'll give you one guess as to which customer that is referring to.
Related to that, Samsung's Foundry Business will be increasing production of mobile chipsets on its 2nm GAA node – that would be the Exynos 2600. We'll get back to the foundry business in a moment.
Device Solutions (DS) is Samsung Electronics' second largest division after MX – it contributed KRW 27.9 trillion in revenue and KRW 0.4 trillion in operating profit of the KRW 74.6 trillion revenue and KRW 4.7 trillion operating profit for Samsung Electronics as a whole.
The memory business sold more HBM3E for server applications and sold a higher proportion of high-density DDR5. It also reports that the delay in datacenter projects has now been cleared, which allowed it to increase SSD sales and clear out NAND inventory.
However, the company took a one-time hit by having to adjust the value of its inventory. The DS division was also impacted by export restrictions related to China in the non-memory segment. The Foundry Business also had to adjust the value of its inventory after the US applied export restrictions on advanced AI chips to China.
Meanwhile, Samsung Display brought in KRW 6.4 trillion in revenue and KRW 0.5 trillion in operating profit. Revenue increased due to strong sales of new smartphone displays to major customers, but also due to sales of IT and automotive displays.
The company is reporting that sales of QD-OLED monitor panels are growing continuously with strong demand from the gaming market. Samsung plans to strengthen its QD-OLED panel product line and accelerate the growth.

OnePlus Pad 3 review

OnePlus built its name by offering flagship performance that undercut its key competitors and the OnePlus Pad 3 is no exception. As a sequel to last year's OnePlus Pad 2, it goes all out on the hardware front with an even larger display, the latest flagship Qualcomm chipset and a higher capacity battery. That's all achieved in a thinner aluminum body, which now measures just 6mm, and OnePlus also added an updated eight-speaker setup. OnePlus Pad 3 is built around 13.2-inch LTPS LCD with 2,400 x 3,392px resolution and a fast 144Hz refresh rate. You also get support for the optional OnePlus Stylo 2 pen. Pad 3 is part of a rare breed of flagship Android tablets sporting the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. There aren't that many slates out there that can claim they offer the very best chipset, and it should be fully unleashed in this large form factor. The cameras remain unchanged from the previous generation with an 8MP front-facing camera and a 13MP main shooter with 4K video recording on the back. We're glad that OnePlus went with a less obtrusive look this time around and opted for a more discreet bump in the corner as opposed to the previous OnePlus Pads and their larger circular cutouts. There's a total of 8 speakers onboard the Pad 3. As for connectivity, you get Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, but there's no GPS or cellular connectivity yet again. OnePlus Pad 3 comes with an upgraded 12,140mAh battery, which is a nice boost over its predecessor. The charging support is also updated and now supports up to 80W speeds. OnePlus Pad 3 ships with OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15 with the OnePlus AI suite powered by Google Gemini. You get the usual slew of features, including Circle to Search, as well as translation, summary, writing, and speaker assistant. One thing that makes the Pad 3 stand out from other Android slates is its ability to remotely control Mac and Windows machines via the O+ Connect app. You can find more details in the software section. Unboxing the OnePlus Pad 3 OnePlus Pad 3 arrives in a premium white box with the usual OnePlus red accents on the inside. The tablet greets you head-on as you lift up the lid, while the bottom compartment holds the signature red and white OnePlus USB-A to C cable. We also received the optional Smart Keyboard, which is an extra purchase. At the time of writing, OnePlus is giving away the Stylo 2 and the Folio case with all OnePlus Pad 3 purchases. Page 2

Samsung Galaxy A17 leaked promo materials reveal a chipset twist

A few days ago, renders purportedly depicting Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A17 got leaked, and earlier today we saw it in both 5G and 4G iterations listed by a European retailer, with pricing revealed. Now, even more details about the A17 have been outed, along with new official-looking renders and a ton of promo materials. According to these, the A17 5G will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 1330 SoC, not the 1380 as previously rumored. Samsung Galaxy A17 5G newly leaked renders The phone will come with 128GB of storage and 4/6/8GB of RAM, and one 256GB option with 8GB of RAM. MicroSD cards up to 2TB will be supported. The handset measures 164.4 x 77.9 x 7.5 mm and weighs 192g. It has a 6.7-inch 1080x2340 Super AMOLED screen with a waterdrop notch, 90 Hz refresh rate, 1,100-nit peak brightness, and Gorilla Glass Victus on top, a triple rear camera system (50 MP main with OIS, 5 MP ultrawide, 2 MP macro), a 13 MP selfie camera, and a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 25W wired charging (zero to 50% advertised to take 30 minutes). Color options will be blue, black, and gray. It's IP54 certified for dust and splash resistance, and comes with a promise of 6 major Android updates and 6 years of security patches. Keep in mind, however, that it will be launching with Android 15 on board, so the first one of those six updates will be Android 16. The back is made from glass fiber reinforced polymer, which is advertised as being stronger compared to the "Glastic" on the A16 5G. In the box will be a 25W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a SIM ejection tool, and a Quick Start Guide. Note that the presence of the charger in the box may vary depending on market. Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy A17 5G is thinner and lighter, has a different chipset, and added OIS to the main camera. The design is changed too for the camera island, which is now one oval thing and not three separate round ones. That's about it, and this is definitely not the biggest upgrade.
