Stronger trading drives weekly gains on MSX

Observer14-06-2025
MUSCAT: Trading activity on the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) picked up pace last week, with average daily volumes rising 19.2 per cent to RO 13.1 million, compared to RO 11 million the previous week. This increase came despite a shorter trading week due to the Eid al Adha holiday.
The uptick was fuelled by robust investor interest in companies affiliated with the Oman Investment Authority, which reported strong financial results. Local institutional investors and funds were also active net buyers, accounting for 69.3 per cent of total trading value.
The combined trading value for the week reached RO 39.3 million. Notable contributors included OQ Basic Industries (RO 7.69 million), OQ Gas Networks (RO 6.1 million), OQ Exploration and Production (RO 6.07 million), and Asyad Shipping (RO 4.69 million). Together, these four companies accounted for 62.4 per cent of total trading.
Despite the increased activity, the MSE's main index slipped by 35 points to close at 4,543 points, ending a six-week streak of gains amid profit-taking in key stocks. The industrial index fell 94 points, financials were down 44 points, services dropped by 12 points, and the Shariah index edged down 3 points to 441.
Market capitalisation rose by RO 82 million, closing at RO 28.88 billion. This was largely driven by gains in OQ Exploration and Production, whose market cap increased by RO 136 million after shares climbed by 17 baisas to 312 baisas.
The company has scheduled an extraordinary general assembly for June 24 to consider amending its articles of association, including a proposal to allow share buybacks.
Elsewhere, Al Anwar Investments invited shareholders to its AGM on June 30 to discuss a 4 baisa-per-share dividend and 4 per cent bonus shares. The company's shares ended the week at 85 baisas.
Meanwhile, Fincorp Financial Services announced plans to exit the brokerage sector and transition into investment activities, pending approval from the Financial Services Authority and shareholder consent at an EGM on June 29.
In the education sector, the Omani Education and Training Investment Company reported a net profit of RO 7.2 million for the first nine months of its fiscal year ending 31 August—up from RO 6.5 million in the same period last year. — ONA

Rusayl Industrial City attracts RO 49 million investment in 2024

MUSCAT: Rusayl Industrial City, part of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), signed 17 new contracts in 2024 for projects covering over 235,000 square metres, with total investments exceeding RO 49 million. The projects span industrial, logistics, and service sectors. Engineer Fahad bin Nasser al Abroui, Acting CEO of Rusayl Industrial City, stated that total accumulated investments in the city had surpassed RO 767 million by end-2024. The industrial city, spanning roughly 11 million square metres, hosts diverse sectors including chemicals, electrical goods, construction materials, fibre optic cables, food, textiles, stationery, dyes, filtration systems, and furniture. Al Abroui noted ongoing key projects, including the infrastructure works for the Madayn Pioneering Complex, developed in partnership with the Authority for SME Development, across more than 60,000 square metres. This initiative aims to create a fully serviced SME zone, with subdivided workshops of 500 square metres each. Additionally, a consultancy project is underway to address stormwater drainage challenges, including new roadworks to improve access to leased plots and other urban enhancements. Further initiatives include the redesign of the commercial area to house more retail units catering to investors and visitors. Among the upcoming projects is the establishment of an integrated facility to support food security, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Another planned project will focus on reusing treated wastewater for cooling and industrial purposes. Al Abroui also confirmed that beautification work on the city's main entrance will be completed by year-end. Since its inception in 1983, Rusayl Industrial City has served as a key enabler of Oman's economic diversification strategy. Its 'Masar' one-stop service centre simplifies investor procedures by streamlining approvals, permits, and licences — creating an integrated, investor-friendly environment aligned with Oman Vision 2040. — ONA

OQGN awards major contract for Fahud–Suhar gas pipeline

MUSCAT: OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN) has awarded a key contract for the construction of a second gas pipeline loop between Fahud and Suhar, reinforcing Oman's energy infrastructure and supply capacity. The 42-inch, 193-kilometre pipeline will be developed under a contract signed with The Petroleum Projects Company Petrojet and Partners LLC. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) agreement was signed on June 17, 2025. In parallel, the company awarded the contract for supplying the line pipe to Jindal Saw Limited. The total project, valued at approximately RO 105 million, is scheduled for completion within 24 months. OQ confirmed that the cost will be integrated into its Regulated Asset Base (RAB), ensuring that the return on investment will be calculated under the approved Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC). Under Price Control 3, the applicable WACC is set at 7.79 per cent and will remain in effect until 2027. This new pipeline forms a critical part of OQ's strategy to expand its transmission network and improve the resilience of natural gas supply to key regions in northern Oman. It will help accommodate increasing industrial demand and improve energy access in major zones such as Suhar. The project also supports national economic diversification by enabling more efficient and reliable delivery of energy to existing and emerging industries. — ONA
