Google's Pixel lineup secure a comfortable spot in the U.S. smartphone growth competition
This progress puts Google just ahead of TCL, which had previously edged out Pixel in shipment volumes. TCL's presence declined significantly this quarter, dropping 23% year over year to around 700,000 units. Other smaller brands also saw a steep drop, with shipments down 34%. Google now sits just behind Motorola, which remains in third place with a 12% share and 3.2 million units shipped. While Motorola's growth this quarter was only 2%, it still far outpaces Google in scale. At the top of the market, Apple remains the US leader with 13.3 million iPhones shipped, although that figure represents an 11% decline compared to the same period last year. Samsung, in contrast, saw the biggest leap: a 38% increase, shipping 8.3 million units and capturing 31% of the market. Canalys credits this to the success of Samsung's Galaxy A-series. Canalys Smartphone Market Pulse Q2 2025. | Image credit — Canalys For Google, the growth is notable but slowing. In 2023, Pixel was estimated to account for close to 5% of the US market, suggesting the brand has dipped slightly in relative terms, even if shipments are up. With the Pixel 10 series expected to launch in August, Q3 could be more telling. Last year's Pixel 9 series helped the company reach its highest-ever quarterly sales. Still, breaking into the US smartphone market at scale remains difficult. Over 90% of all smartphone shipments in the US are controlled by Apple, Samsung, and Motorola. This leaves little room for other players to grow. Canalys notes that brands like OnePlus and Nothing are taking a different approach, focusing on unlocked sales through their websites and retailers like Best Buy and Amazon, instead of relying on carrier deals. But this strategy hasn't led to major market share gains yet. Overall, Google's steady rise is a bright spot in a challenging environment. Compared to Samsung's aggressive growth and Apple's dominance, Pixel remains a small but growing alternative that's slowly carving out a space of its own — and I'm definitely here for it. Bring on more competition!

Oppo Find X9 Pro specs leak, it will have a huge battery
The Oppo Find X9 Pro is now rumored to sport a gigantic battery, with support for 50W wireless charging. The capacity itself may not have been finalized yet, but it will be at least 7,000 mAh, and apparently could go as high as 7,500 mAh. The phone will have a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED flat screen with narrow bezels on all sides. On the rear, the camera island will be in the top left corner. This will resemble the island in the Reno14 series, but will look more high-end. Speaking of cameras, the handset will sport a 200 MP periscope telephoto, using Samsung's 1/1.56-inch type ISOCELL HP5 sensor. Oppo Find X8 Pro The Find X9 Pro also gets an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, as well as IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. It will be powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 SoC, which is likely to be unveiled in September. Source (in Chinese) | Via

Note 15 Pro+ to be the first Redmi device introducing a new connectivity feature
A few days ago some details about the upcoming Redmi Note 15 Pro+ leaked in China, and today we have yet another spec to talk about - but this one's important. That's because the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ will in fact be the first Redmi device to come with this feature. We're talking about satellite connectivity, which has so far been seen in high-end devices only. Redmi Note 14 Pro+ But the Redmi mid-ranger will bring this feature down in price. It's interesting that Redmi didn't opt to equip its high-end K series devices with satellite connectivity first. Then again, the Note series is definitely its best seller, so perhaps that's why it's getting this first. By the way, throughout this article we've been talking about the Chinese-market Redmi Note 15 Pro+, if it wasn't obvious. Whether the satellite connectivity feature will make it to the international model when that launches remains to be seen - it's definitely not a given. The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ will allegedly come with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC at the helm, a "1.5K" resolution screen with thin, symmetrical bezels on all sides, a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP telephoto, and a battery between 7,000 mAh and 7,999 mAh.
