TONIGHT: becoming partly cloudy and still cold. The lows will be in the middle 20s to lower 30s.
TOMORROW: Tuesday will be a transition day from a sunny Monday to a rainy Wednesday. High pressure will move northeast of Alabama, and that will allow for easterly winds to bring in slightly warmer temperatures. It will be mostly cloudy and not as cold with highs in the middle 50s.
Our next weathermaker arrives Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. An area of low pressure will move from Texas to the northern Gulf Coast. This will bring widespread rain and possibly snow to parts of Central Alabama. The snow is possible along and north of US 278.
Minor accumulations of a dusting to 1 inch are possible on Wednesday morning. Some travel issues are possible since the temperatures will be around freezing, and the ground will be 'warm.'
Weather Aware Wednesday Night through Friday Morning for Frigid Temperatures
The Arctic Blast will arrive Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This will bring Central Alabama temperatures in the teens with the wind chill of 5-10. There could be icy spots on roads across Alabama if the wind does not dry them out for the Thursday morning commute.
Thursday will be a blustery day with sunshine. High pressure will be northwest of Alabama sending down the Arctic Air. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 30s. It is possible that some areas of Central and Northern Alabama will not get above freezing for more than 24 hours. Protect pipes, blooming plants, pets, and people. Thursday night will be clear and frigid with lows of 15-20 degrees.
Friday will be another frigid day with sunshine as high pressure builds across the Southeast U.S., but high temperatures will climb into the 40s.
Weekend Outlook: High pressure will move northeast of Alabama on Saturday. We will be mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the lower 50s. A low in the Central Gulf will bring us a chance for some showers on Sunday into Monday. Highs will be in the middle 50s.
